Can I still be saved? [Transmigration] - Chapter 15
When Lu Tao got home, he brought back two mini 4WD race cars, one for Su Yunjing and one for Fu Hanzhou.
With the popularity of the anime Let’s & Go!!, vendors were selling toy race cars outside school gates everywhere.
Lu Tao listened to the advice of the lamp seller next door at the hardware market. And, when he passed by the store, he not only bought two racing cars, but also a complete racetrack set.
As expected, Song Wenqian scolded him the moment she saw it.
“Why’d you buy this? We only have so much space in the living room. Where are we even going to put something that big? There won’t be any room left to walk!”
“It’s the kids’ birthday today! I just wanted to make them happy.” Lu Tao quickly pulled the two kids over to shield himself. “Son, do you like the gift Dad got you?”
Ten years ago, if Su Yunjing had gotten a dad like this, he’d have been over the moon.
Back then, didn’t every kid dream of having a race car?
He nodded, giving face. “Yeah, I like it.”
Lu Tao turned to Fu Hanzhou. “And you? Do you like the gift Uncle bought you?”
Dragged into it unexpectedly, Fu Hanzhou also nodded.
Lu Tao immediately puffed up. “See? Both kids are happy!”
Song Wenqian didn’t want to argue anymore. With a tone of exasperation, she said, “Go wash your hands, dinner’s ready!”
Lu Tao grinned smugly, like he’d just won a battle. “Yes, ma’am!”
…
Song Wenqian lit a ring of candles on the cake, and everyone sang the birthday song together.
Su Yunjing turned to Fu Hanzhou and said, “Let’s blow out the candles together.”
His bright eyes reflected the flickering candlelight, dotted with stars, and it seemed that honey-colored syrup was melting in the depths.Warm and Sweet
Fu Hanzhou felt the warmth too.
He nodded and leaned in with Su Yunjing. Together, they blew out the candles.
Then Su Yunjing took up a plastic knife and began cutting the cake.
Once a slice was ready, Song Wenqian placed it on a small cake plate.
Su Yunjing handed her the first slice.
“Mom, thanks for all your hard work.”
Song Wenqian paused, then smiled and gently patted his head. “My son really knows how to appreciate his mother.”
Lu Tao: “…”
Su Yunjing cut another slice for him.
“Dad, thanks for all your hard work too.”
Lu Tao let out a heartfelt sigh: “My son really does appreciate me.”
Song Wenqian shot him a glare.
After cutting a slice for Fu Hanzhou, Su Yunjing leaned over and whispered something in his ear.
Seeing the two boys whispering to each other, Song Wenqian couldn’t help but chuckle.
“What are you two whispering about?”
“Nothing.” Su Yunjing sat back, looking perfectly calm.
He had just reminded Fu Hanzhou to eat only one slice of cake for now. If he wanted more, Su Yunjing would bring him some tomorrow. Too much cake was hard to digest.
Fu Hanzhou took the advice seriously and only ate one slice.
After dinner, Su Yunjing turned to Song Wenqian and asked, “Mom, it’s not eight yet. Can I help Hanzhou take a bath at home?”
“You’re going to help him bathe?” Song Wenqian laughed. “You just learned how to bath yourself, and now you think you can wash someone else?”
Su Yunjing: “…”
With an eight-year-old’s face, no matter what he said, the adults always doubted him.
But Fu Hanzhou didn’t like being touched. After becoming familiar with Su Yunjing, he barely tolerated physical contact from him.
“He can wash himself. I’ll just help him wash his hair. Can you find a waterproof child’s shower cap for me?”
After repeatedly promising not to mess up, Song Wenqian finally agreed.
“When you rinse the shampoo, tell him to lower his head so it doesn’t get in his eyes.”
“Got it.”
“Test the water before turning the shower on. Don’t scald him.”
“Okay.”
“I’ve set clean clothes out here. Make sure he’s dressed before coming out so he doesn’t catch a cold.”
“Mm-hmm.”
Only after several rounds of instructions did she finally leave.
Just as Su Yunjing was about to close the bathroom door, Song Wenqian came back.
She said worriedly, “Maybe I should just wash you both myself.”
Su Yunjing: “…”
Even Lu Tao couldn’t take it anymore. He walked over and gently pulled her away.
After shutting the door, Su Yunjing turned and said helplessly to Fu Hanzhou, “My mom’s just scared I’ll squirt shampoo in your eyes.”
Mothers always worry too much.
Fu Hanzhou sat on the little stool and looked up at him.
The orange warm light from the bathroom heater cast a beautiful halo on Fu Hanzhou’s soft and fine black hair.
The child with delicate features had black and shiny eyes, but unlike the cold person in the past, he was very well-behaved.
Su Yunjing felt that today’s little cold cub seemed to have changed from a fierce and cold wolf cub to a little lamb that had just been out of the sheepfold.
Su Yunjing felt his heart soften.
He squatted in front of Fu Hanzhou and put on the special shower cap for washing children that Song Wenqian had given to him.
Then he stood on tiptoe and unhooked the shower head, testing the water temperature first.
After feeling that the water temperature was suitable, he asked Fu Hanzhou to lower his head.
The moment the warm water hit his scalp, Fu Hanzhou flinched, squeezing his eyes shut and clenching his jaw.
Sensing the tension in his body, Su Yunjing quickly moved the water away.
He asked, “Too hot? Too cold? Did it get in your eyes?”
The water was warm, nothing like the freezing blasts he had known growing up. That unfamiliar gentleness made Fu Hanzhou purse his lips.
He shook his head.
“Not too hot or cold. It’s fine.”
Su Yunjing let out a breath of relief. He carefully wet Fu Hanzhou’s hair, turned off the water, and squeezed some icy cool shampoo into his palms.
Su Yunjing made white foam in the palm of his hand before gently applying it to Fu Hanzhou’s hair.
His nails were cut very short by Song Wenqian, and Fu Hanzhou didn’t feel any scratching and tugging when Su Yunjiang ran his fingers through his hair and gently rubbed his scalp.
Fu Hanzhou’s lashes drooped, with mist lingering in the corners of his eyes. His pale face glowed faintly pink from the steam.
Maybe the bathroom was just too warm, but Fu Hanzhou felt unsteady, like his head was heavy and floating.
The surrounding light became strange and distant, and Su Yunjing in front of him appeared unreal.
His chest grew tight with a strange, rising fear.
Su Yunjing’s voice was very ethereal, as if he was separated from him by a long distance
“Close your eyes. I’ll rinse the foam now.”
Fu Hanzhou’s headache worsened. The small bathroom felt warped and twisted. He started breathing shallowly.
Su Yunjing didn’t notice Fu Hanzhou’s abnormality. It was his first time washing someone else’s hair, and he was still adjusting his position.
Suddenly, his clothes were tightly grabbed by Fu Hanzhou.
“Huh?”
Su Yunjing looked down and asked in confusion, “Did the shampoo get in your eyes?”
Fu Hanzhou didn’t reply. He just clutched Su Yunjing’s shirt tighter and leaned forward, resting his head gently on Su Yunjing’s shoulder.
Like a tired bird finally returning to its nest.
In that moment, the chaos in Fu Hanzhou’s world faded away. Everything was quiet.
He was still wearing the shower cap, and water dripped from it, soaking a large patch of Su Yunjing’s shirt.
Looking at the unexpectedly docile boy nestled against him, Su Yunjing softly ruffled his hair.
“What’s wrong?”
Fu Hanzhou whispered, “Happy birthday.”
It was the first time in his life he had ever said those words to someone.
Su Yunjing smiled.
“Happy birthday to you too.”
Fu Hanzhou closed his eyes. His wet eyelashes clung to his eyelids, and the corners of his lips curled up just a little.
Mm. From now on, today would be his birthday too.
