Can I still be saved? [Transmigration] - Chapter 24
Wen Yanlai and Shen Nianyun had arranged a welcome dinner for Su Yunjing that evening.
They booked a highly rated private restaurant, discreetly located and well-reviewed.
Su Yunjing had thought he might see his little cool cub again but to his surprise, only Shen Nianyun showed up.
As usual, Shen Nianyun was dressed in a formal suit. Tall and well-built, he carried himself with elegant temperament.
When he saw Wen Yanlai, he walked over with a smile. “Have you been waiting long?”
“Not really. Xiao Ci and I just arrived too,” Wen Yanlai replied with a smile.
The warm orange lighting softened the sharp lines of her features, lending her usually cool demeanor a gentler, more feminine charm.
“Xiao Ci, greet him,” Wen Yanlai said, turning to Su Yunjing.
Because of her public career, Wen Yanlai and Shen Nianyun had not yet made their relationship public, nor had they held a wedding.
Su Yunjing suppressed his inner awkwardness and called out, “Uncle.”
He had previously called Song Wenqian and Lu Tao “Mom” and “Dad” without issue, even though there was no bl00d relation but for some reason, saying “Uncle” to Fu Hanzhou’s biological father felt deeply unnatural.
The fact that Fu Hanzhou didn’t show up left Su Yunjing a little disappointed.
Knowing how possessive Fu Hanzhou was, he wondered if the boy couldn’t accept Wen Yanlai and was sulking, refusing to join them for dinner.
Even though Fu Hanzhou weighed on his mind, Su Yunjing didn’t let the conversation fall flat during the meal. He remained polite and composed.
He could tell that Wen Yanlai and Shen Nianyun truly cared for each other, so his blessings were genuine.
The dinner was unexpectedly pleasant and harmonious.
After dinner, Su Yunjing went home with them.
Shen Nianyun lived in Jingyuan Shijia, one of the most prestigious villa communities in Beijing, where every inch of land was incredibly valuable.
When Su Yunjing went to retrieve his luggage from the trunk, one of the household staff quickly stepped up to help.
Though the suitcase wasn’t heavy, Su Yunjing felt uncomfortable letting an older woman carry it, so he chose to decline.
Just when he was about to refuse, the carved iron door of the villa opened again, and a thin and tall boy walked in.
Su Yunjing’s heart instantly leapt into his throat.
It had only been half a month since Fu Hanzhou left with Shen Nianyun, but it felt much longer since he’d last seen him.
When they met again, the little sickly boy had grown into a striking young man.
The warm courtyard lights cast a soft glow over his refined features, and the trailing corners of his phoenix eyes shimmered with a haunting, bl00d-red allure.
He carried a single-strap bag. His fine, soft black hair was loosely tied back, revealing sharp, elegant features.
Su Yunjing was stunned when she saw this handsome boy with long hair.
He remembered Fu Hanzhou had hated being told he looked like a girl, why had he grown out his hair?
Wen Yanlai and Shen Nianyun were still standing in the courtyard, but Fu Hanzhou walked past them as if they did not exist, not even giving them a glance.
Shen Nianyun frowned and called out, “Hanzhou.”
Only then did Fu Hanzhou seem to realize others were around. He lifted his eyelids slightly and looked at Shen Nianyun.
“Your Aunt Wen brought Xiao Ci over. He’ll be starting school with you tomorrow. Make sure you look after him, alright?” Shen Nianyun said.
“Oh.”
Fu Hanzhou responded with a single syllable, then walked off with his bag.
The entire time, he didn’t so much as glance at Su Yunjing, who was still standing by the car.
Shen Nianyun was helpless with his son. Forcing a smile, he turned to Su Yunjing and explained, “He’s just a little slow to warm up to people.”
Wen Yanlai added, “Once you two spend more time together, he won’t be like this anymore.”
Su Yunjing believed that.
No one knew Fu Hanzhou’s personality better than he did.
If anything, this cold response was better than expected. The Fu Hanzhou of the past was downright domineering when they first met.
Now, he could even utter an “oh” without an attitude. It didn’t seem like he was that averse to his new stepmother or step-cousin.
SuYunjing was arranged to stay in the guest room on the second floor, just opposite Fu Hanzhou.
While unpacking, he noticed Wen Yanlai standing at the door, half her face hidden in shadow, and no one knew what she was thinking.
Before coming to the capital, Wen Yanlai called the original owner to tell him that daily necessities, including clothes and shoes, were prepared, so he didn’t need to bring more.
So the original owner didn’t bring anything, and Su Yunjing organized everything quickly.
Just as he was about to lift the suitcase, intending to put it on the top shelf in the closet, Wen Yanlai finally spoke.
“There’s a storage room. I’ll have someone take your suitcase down later.”
Hearing that, Su Yunjing put the suitcase back down.
Wen Yanlai pressed her lips together, then added, “If you think it’s too rushed to report to school tomorrow, you can take a few more days.”
“It’s not rushed. I’d rather settle in sooner and adjust to the new environment.”
Truthfully, Su Yunjing was eager to go to school early, he didn’t want to stay in this house all day and face Wen Yanlai.
She didn’t have the warmth and ease that Song Wenqian had. Su Yunjing found it hard to connect with her.
Song Wenqian had been like any ordinary mother, and in her, he saw glimpses of his own.
Wen Yanlai, on the other hand, felt distant and unapproachable.
Plus, he’d never interacted with a celebrity before, so he wasn’t sure how to get along with her.
After giving a short “mm,” Wen Yanlai fell silent again.
Awkwardly, Su Yunjing asked, “Auntie, where’s the storage room? I can put the suitcase away myself.”
Wen Yanlai walked into the room, picked up the suitcase, and said flatly, “Go to bed early. You’ve got school tomorrow.”
She didn’t say anything else and took the suitcase out.
Only after she left did Su Yunjing breathe a sigh of relief.
Although Fu Hanzhou was also very cold when he was a child, in Su Yunjing’s eyes, he was just a little more difficult to deal with than ordinary children.
But Wen Yanlai… from her aura to her age, she totally overwhelmed him.Su Yunjing felt very stressed when he was alone with her.
Glancing at the door opposite him,Su Yunjing debated whether he should go say hello to Fu Hanzhou.
But he wasn’t Lu Jiaming anymore. Knowing Fu Hanzhou’s temperament, that would likely just earn him a cold shoulder.
Forget it. They live together now, so there would be plenty of time.
Su Yunjing stepped forward and gently closed the door.
He lay down on the soft, spacious bed and pulled a sleek, new slider phone from his pocket.
He still remembered Fu Hanzhou’s number. He wondered, after ten years, had the little yandere kept the same SIM card?
He was tempted to try calling.
But if his identity got exposed, the transmigration system might punish him, so he had to resist.
Ten years had passed. A lot must’ve changed. Hopefully, Song Wenqian and Lu Tao had moved on from their grief.
He also wondered, did they end up having a boy or a girl?
Su Yunjing lay there, lost in thought, for a long time before finally getting up to take a shower.
Su Yunjing adjusted quickly. That night, he fell asleep fast and slept soundly.
When he woke the next morning, it was already 6:50. He got up, washed up, and headed out.
As soon as he stepped into the hall, he ran into Wen Yanlai, who had come to call him for breakfast.
She wore home clothes and light makeup. When Su Yunjing saw her, his back tensed slightly by reflex, and he greeted her uncomfortably.
“Good morning, Auntie.”
“Come down to eat,” Wen Yanlai said simply and led him to the dining room.
Breakfast was Chinese-style.
Congee with fried eggs, steamed buns and fried dough sticks, along with a few light pickled dishes. It wasn’t the rich style breakfast he had expected from a wealthy household.
Shen Nianyun smiled warmly. “I didn’t know what you liked, so we prepared a little of everything.”
“This is just like what my grandma used to make at home. I’m used to it,” Su Yunjing replied as he pulled out a chair and sat down.
Wen Yanlai didn’t speak much once they sat down. Shen Nianyun, however, was eager to make sure Su Yunjing felt welcome.
“Just treat this like your home. If there’s anything you want to eat, tell Aunt Wang, she’s a great cook.”
“Got it.”
“Your aunt’s not available to take you to school today, and I have to go to the office. Lao Wu will drive you. He takes Hanzhou to school every day and knows the route.”
“Thank you, Uncle,” Su Yunjing said without hesitation.
Wen Yanlai stirred her steaming congee slowly, lips pressed into a thin line, showing subtle signs of tension.
Su Yunjing chatted casually with Shen Nianyun. Halfway through finishing his bowl, he couldn’t help asking,“Has Hanzhou not come down yet? Should I go call him?”
As he spoke, Su Yunjing moved his butt, ready to get up and call Fu Hanzhou down to eat.
But Shen Nianyun said,”He doesn’t sleep well, and he will sleep a little longer in the morning, so don’t worry about him, you eat first.”
Su Yunjing nodded and sat back down.
When they were younger, Fu Hanzhou used to have nightmares and sometimes hallucinations. He wondered if things had gotten worse.
He was worried but didn’t dare show it.
By the time Su Yunjing finished eating and packed up for school, Fu Hanzhou finally came downstairs.
Wearing light-colored sportswear and a baseball cap, the tall boy descended the stairs with pairs of long legs in lazy strides.
He rarely ate breakfast at home. So aunt Wang handed him a packed meal to take along.
He still seemed half-asleep, his narrow phoenix eyes drooping low as he took the food without a word.
Watching him wandering like a sleep-deprived ghost, Su Yunjing almost laughed.
This was not the elegant, aloof teenager he’d imagined.
After saying goodbye to Shen Nianyun and Wen Yanlai, Su Yunjiang slung his backpack over his shoulder and followed him out.
Driver Lao Wu was already waiting.
Su Yunjing walked to the other side of the car, opened the door, and got in.
Fu Hanzhou leaned half of his body against the car window, with the brim of his baseball cap pulled down low.
“You got everything, Young Master Xiao Ci? If so, I’ll start driving,” Lao Wu asked.
The term ‘Young Master Xiao Ci’ made Su Yunjing a bit uncomfortable.
“You can just call me Xiao Ci,” he said. “I’ve got everything. You can go ahead.”
Lao Wu nodded and started the engine, slowly driving the car out of the villa compound.
Fu Hanzhou was still holding his breakfast, unmoving. He might’ve already fallen asleep.
His cap shaded most of his face, revealing only the bridge of his nose and tightly pressed lips.
Su Yunjing couldn’t even tell if his eyes were open or closed.
The once little cool cub had grown so tall. According to Su Yunjing’s visual estimation, he was at least 1.85 meters tall.
They were only seventeen. He could still grow taller.
His long limbs were curled between the seat and the car door. Just watching him sit like that made Su Yunjing feel uncomfortable for him.
