Can I still be saved? [Transmigration] - Chapter 40.2
Jiang Chuyan’s bed wasn’t very big—cramming three people onto it felt a little tight.
Their home had two bedrooms and a living room. With Jiang’s parents away, Su Yunjing didn’t feel it was right to go and sleep in their bedroom.
In the end, they pulled out a folding bed Jiang’s father had bought a few years ago, pushed it together with the sofa to make a double bed, and Su Yunjing and Fu Hanzhou slept in the living room.
To line it up with the folding bed, they had to move the sofa to the center of the room.
Underneath was all dust. Seeing this, Su Yunjing quickly grabbed a broom to sweep, while Jiang Chuyan felt terribly embarrassed.
“Let me do it,” he said, wheeling himself over to help.
Su Yunjing waved him off. “It’s fine, it’s not that tiring.”
Fu Hanzhou silently fetched a mop and cleaned the spot Su Yunjing had just swept.
The two of them worked in perfect sync. And with Fu Hanzhou deliberately ignoring Jiang Chuyan, Jiang couldn’t help feeling like an outsider, a little left out.
At night, when Jiang wanted to take a bath, Su Yunjing prepared everything—hot water in the tub, towels, shampoo and body wash placed within reach.
For Jiang’s sake, the bathroom had a bathtub with a showerhead above it, so he could either soak or rinse.
Jiang wheeled himself in, but when he saw Su Yunjing still standing there, Fu Hanzhou pulled him out and shut the door behind him.
“What are you doing?” Su Yunjing asked, completely baffled.
“He’s going to bathe. What are you hanging around for?” Fu Hanzhou frowned.
Afraid Jiang might overhear, Su Yunjing lowered his voice. “He can’t move well. I need to help him into the tub.”
To him, it was no big deal—they were all guys. He only worried that Jiang might dislike anyone seeing his legs. He’d been thinking just now about how to help without hurting his self-esteem.
But Fu Hanzhou’s eye was sharper. His voice was cold as he said, “He can do it himself.”
Jiang looked frail, but his arms were strong. As long as he locked his wheelchair in place, he could support himself into the tub.
“Or did you think all these years his parents carried him in and out of bed every day?” Fu’s tone was cutting.
Su Yunjing blinked. Come to think of it, Jiang’s palms really did have a thin layer of calluses—clearly from long-term use.
Fu Hanzhou gritted his teeth, glaring at the handsome boy in front of him. “What’s next? If he can’t sleep at night, are you going to coax him too?”
Su Yunjing: “…”
Great. The vinegar jar had tipped over again.
His little tsundere was fine in every other way, except he loved getting jealous. Over the weirdest things, too.
Still, Su Yunjing couldn’t help picturing it, if Jiang Chuyan really couldn’t sleep and asked him to coax him… the thought felt strangely awkward.
Su Yunjing quickly said, “Of course not. He’s not like you—doesn’t have a thousand problems, doesn’t get insomnia every night.”
Fu Hanzhou took out a plum candy with an expressionless face, tore off the package, and stuffed it into Su Yunjing’s mouth.
“Mm?” Su Yunjing looked at him, chewing.
Fu Hanzhou stuffed another one with an expressionless face.
Su Yunjing: “…”
When they were little, if Su said something the little cool cub didn’t like, he’d always stuff food in his mouth to shut him up.
Apparently, nothing had changed.
Su first soothed his ruffled feathers, then tried reasoning with him. “Come on, be generous, my dear bunkmate.”
In silence, Fu Hanzhou shoved yet another plum candy into his mouth.
Su Yunjing: “…”
…..
Su Yunjing had always slept well. With his easygoing nature, he could adapt to any place without issue.
Not long after the lights went out, he was already drifting into slumber.
Fu Hanzhou, on the other hand, was picky about sleep. The unfamiliar environment, the uncomfortable bed, and using someone else’s blankets—all of it kept him restless.
When he slept alone, he always had the habit of pulling the blanket over his head. But this time, he only pulled it up to his chest, lying stiffly beside Su Yunjing in the same position the whole time.
Even with Su Yunjing next to him, he couldn’t sleep well. Deep down, he rejected this place.
In the middle of the night, Jiang Chuyan got up to use the bathroom. He moved as quietly as he could, afraid of waking the two sleeping in the living room.
Coming out, he subconsciously glanced toward the center of the room.
On the makeshift bed, the two boys were lying together in an odd position, pressed close to each other.
Jiang Chunian was still puzzling over it when a pair of dark eyes suddenly met his.
Those eyes were beautiful, but the sharpness at their corners carried a violent edge.
Like a beast lurking in the dark, hunting for prey.
Startled, Jiang quickly averted his gaze and hurried back to his room in a fluster, wheeling too fast and accidentally bumping into something with a loud thud.
The noise stirred Su Yunjing. He opened his eyelids with difficulty, “What happened? What was that sound?”
Fu Hanzhou lowered his lashes, quietly erasing every trace of emotion from his eyes.
Then he tucked himself back against Su Yunjing, like some creature burrowing into its nest, nestling into the hollow of Su’s neck.
Half-asleep, Su murmured drowsily, “What’s wrong?”
Fu Hanzhou didn’t say anything, still nuzzling against him.
Su Yunjing thought he was having a nightmare again, and habitualy patted his back in comfort.
Fu Hanzhou closed his eyes.
In truth, he didn’t feel much about Jiang Chuyan as a person. He simply couldn’t stand anyone—anyone at all—drawing Su Yunjing’s attention away from him.
But that much, he could endure.
No matter how well Su Yunjing treated Jiang Chuyan at school, even if he angry about it, he never actually did anything.
The only reason he truly lost his temper this time was because Jiang Chunian had touched his bottom line.
On weekends, all he wanted was to shut the door and spend time with Su Yunjing, just the two of them, without anyone interrupting.
From Monday to Friday, whatever Su Yunjing wanted to do, he wouldn’t interfere much.
But this weekend, thanks to Jiang Chuyan, had been ruined—and that left a fire simmering in his chest.
Even though he was angry, he couldn’t really lose his temper with Su Yunjing.
This bad mood lasted until the next day. After Jiang Chunian’s parents came back in the evening, he and Su Yunjing left the Jiang family, and he finally felt better.
Su Yunjing vaguely felt that Fu Hanzhou seemed to be in a good mood. After taking a shower in the evening, he even changed the clothes of the big bear—In his own Pajama, no less
Watching the little tsundere lounging lazily, long legs dangling, carefully buttoning pajamas onto the stuffed bear, Su’s lips twitched.
Truly, a man’s heart is like the bottom of the ocean—impossible to dredge up.
After coming back from Jiang’s place, Fu Hanzhou caught a slight cold.
The doctor at the community clinic said it was just from catching a chill at night—nothing serious. No need for an injection, just some cold medicine.
Even so, Fu Hanzhou looked weak and listless, with no energy for anything. He even slumped over his desk in class.
Su Yunjing wanted to say, It’s just a little cold, don’t overdo it. But one look at his little tsundere’s phoenix eyes, misty with fever, and the tip of his nose flushed red, and he swallowed the words back down.
Over 180 centimeters tall—and frail as a porcelain doll. Practically like Lin Daiyu.
According to Fu Hanzhou, whenever he caught a cold, it always dragged on forever, no matter what the doctor said.
He had never seen him sick as a child, so he couldn’t tell if it was true. so he couldn’t tell if he was exaggerating.
Probably not, though—his constitution really was different from most people’s. Who knew what strange settings the “author” might have slapped onto this popular second male lead?
Because he was sick, he stayed in with him more, even at school.
During the long break, Su Yunjing went alone to get hot water. Hanzhou wanted to follow, but he persuaded him to rest.
After a long while, Su finally returned, carrying two thermos flasks and wearing a face full of anger.
Seeing his expression, Fu straightened up. The haze in his phoenix eyes cleared instantly, replaced by a sharp glint.
“What happened?” he asked.
Su Yunjing rarely lost his temper. He exhaled hard before answering. “Nothing. Just had a fight with someone.”
They’d almost come to blows if not for the grade director passing by.
Normally, he didn’t bother going to the water room, but with Fu Hanzhou down with a cold and drinking more than usual, he had gone to refill.
While he was there, he suddenly thought of Jiang Chuyan and decided to get him a cup too.
But one boy in Jiang’s class, someone who’d been his elementary school classmate, saw Su Yunjing come ask if Jiang Chuyun wanted water, and immediately spilled an ugly ‘secret’.
Back in fifth grade, because Jiang Chuyun couldn’t walk well and was too embarrassed to ask others for help, his family had him wear adult diapers.
A group of mischievous boys found out and mocked him relentlessly until graduation.
When they ended up in the same high school class, Jiang always avoided this person, afraid the past would be brought up again.
The boy himself had long forgotten about it—until today, when Su Yunjing showed up looking for Jiang Chuyun. Only then did he suddenly remember, and blurted it out.
That was what nearly drove Su Yunjing to throw punches.
Just now, he had gone to the teacher’s office to explain the situation to both his homeroom teacher and Jiang’s. He also asked them to allow him to escort Jiang to the bathroom during class from now on.
Ever since that incident in elementary school, Jiang had been afraid to drink water, terrified of facing another humiliation.
The school’s facilities weren’t accommodating for him either. Whenever he couldn’t hold it anymore, he would sneak out during class to go in secret.
Su Yunjing worked it out with the two teachers: during second period in the morning and second period in the afternoon, he and Jiang would both be permitted to arrive a few minutes late to class.
If Jiang Chuyan kept going without drinking water and holding it in every day, it was only a matter of time before his body broke down.
The more Su Yunjing thought about it, the angrier he became. How could a seventeen- or eighteen-year-old boy harbor so much malice, mocking someone for a physical disability?
“I was too careless. I never even thought about his bathroom situation… No wonder he never drinks soup at lunch.” Su Yunjing pressed his fingers hard against his temple.
Hearing the guilt in his voice, Fu Hanzhou pressed his lips together.
The two of them were opposites by nature.
Su Yunjing was deeply empathetic. He was always able to put himself in others’ shoes—and sometimes even burdened himself with guilt over their pain.
Fu Hanzhou, on the other hand, was selfish. If it had nothing to do with him, he would only watch with cold detachment.
He never understood why Su Yunjing cared so much about others, why he let himself get emotionally tangled and at times, it made him jealous, even angry.
Even now, he wasn’t happy about it. But this time, he knew better than to show it. At least not now.
Sometimes he could throw a little tantrum and Su Yunjing would coax him back into good humor.
But Su Yunjing also had his bottom line. If he acted indifferent at a time like this, it would only push him away.
He didn’t want Su Yunjing to care too much about Jiang Chuyan, but all he could say was, “I don’t understand the classes anyway. You stay and focus, I’ll go with him.”
Su Yunjing gave him a look.
Frankly, even if he agreed, Jiang Chuyan wouldn’t. Because Jiang Chuyan was clearly a little afraid of Fu Hanzhou.
So Su Yunjing declined tactfully. “Forget it. You two aren’t that close.”
A flash of hostility stirred in Fu Hanzhou’s eyes. He was offering to help, wasn’t he? And Su was still picky about it!
Every cell in his body screamed at Su Yunjing: Don’t bother with him. Don’t.
But he could only think about it—on the surface, his face stayed calm. “We’re not close now, but if we spend more time together, we will be.”
He even added gently, “I’ll be patient with him.”
Su Yunjing recognized his good intentions, but in the end decided to take it on himself.
After today’s incident, Jiang Chuyan was bound to be even more sensitive. Right now, the only person he trusted was Su Yunjing.
Fu Hanzhou might not have Jiang’s trust, but he had something no one else could offer: money.
The biggest problem right now was that the school didn’t have a single accessible restroom. If that could be solved, Su Yunjing wouldn’t have to escort Jiang Chuyan every day.
For just building one accessible bathroom, the money in Fu Hanzhou’s hands was more than enough.
Su Yunjing had no idea how he convinced Shen Nianyun, but somehow Fu Hanzhou managed to get the company to donate a sum of money to the school for renovations.
Not only would a new restroom be built, but both teaching buildings and the dormitories were going to be fitted with elevators.
When Shen Nianyun visited Henglin No.2 High School to see Fu Hanzhou, he even sat down with the administration to discuss the matter.
When Su Yunjing saw the scale of what Fu had stirred up, his jaw nearly dropped. “Isn’t this a bit… excessive?”
Fu Hanzhou replied, “It’s not from me personally. The donation is under the company’s name.”
Once a business grows to a certain scale, it has a responsibility to society. Charity was part of that responsibility.
For a leading company like Shen Nianyun’s, philanthropy could enhance corporate credibility and reputation.
Fu Hanzhou had done some simple research on Henglin No.2 High. It was one of the city’s top ten key high schools.
If it could earn recognition as a provincial-level key school, it would gain access to far better educational resources and faculty.
Its university admission rate was decent, but compared to other provincial-level key schools, it was utterly outclassed.
That rate was only one metric in the evaluation. If the school could develop its own distinctive strengths, it still had a chance.
If Henglin No.2 High opened a ‘green channel’ for students with disabilities, and spread its reputation, it could attract children like Jiang Chuyan from other counties as well.
Which was why the teaching buildings had to be renovated, elevators installed, and other supportive facilities added.
The dormitories also needed upgrades, so that more students could actually live on campus.
Su Yunjing couldn’t help praising him. “You’re brilliant. If there are more students like Jiang Chuyan, the school will definitely establish plenty of protective measures.”
With only Jiang alone, his needs were too easy to overlook. But with more students, the school would be forced to take them seriously.
He thought Fu Hanzhou was acting out of fairness, trying to make up for the injustice Jiang had suffered days ago, and came up with this solution.
But Fu’s ambitions lay elsewhere.
Building just one accessible restroom was simple, but that would only fix Jiang Chuyan’s bathroom issue. There would be endless other inconveniences after that.
It is better to find some companions for him to expand his circle of friends. With more friends, he will not always stick to Su Yunjing.
Faced with Su Yunjing’s heartfelt praise, Fu Hanzhou smiled with clear eyes and said, “I am also very happy to help them.”
Su Yunjing felt a wave of relief. His little jealous tyrant’s worldview really was growing more and more positive.
