Can I still be saved? [Transmigration] - Chapter 47.2
In nature, animal species have their own unique way of courting.
Humans, too, have their custom. Among them, gifting chocolate is one of the most subtle, and the least likely to be noticed by Su Yunjing.
It’s said that when humans fall in love, their bodies secrete a kind of neurostimulant called phenylethylamine, and chocolate happens to contain it.
Whether this claim is scientific or not, he only hoped that when Su Yunjing was with him, his body would produce that same chemical.
By the time the movie ended, it was past nine in the evening. Su Yunjing and Fu Hanzhou returned to their hotel room.
After washing up, Su Yunjing changed into the hotel pajamas and lay down on the bed.
Fu Hanzhou came out of the bathroom after nearly half an hour, carrying with him a faint chill and the scent of water.
“You showered again?” The moment he slipped under the covers, Su Yunjing shivered. “Was that a cold shower?”
“Not cold,” Fu Hanzhou explained. “Just… not very warm.”
As he spoke, the movement of his robe revealed the taut lines of his abdomen— smooth muscle under pale skin, skin that looked warm like jade, but felt as cold as stone.
His thick brows were darkened by the damp, and beneath them, those phoenix eyes seemed even deeper and darker.
Su Yunjing turned his gaze away, a little uneasy. “Why not just use hot water?”
“Cold showers are good in winter,” Fu Hanzhou murmured, tucking the blanket around himself.
Su Yunjing chuckled. “With that body of yours, I’d advise you not to tempt fate.”
After the covers had warmed a little, Fu Hanzhou leaned toward him, only to be promptly rejected.
“Sleep properly,” Su Yunjing said, turning his back to him. “Two grown men sticking together every night, what’s that supposed to look like?”
The air-conditioning was adjustable; Su Yunjing raised the temperature slightly.
Just as he began to drift off, a finger poked at his spine. Seeing that Su Yunjing ignored it, he continued to poke.
Swatting the hand away, he sighed, “Sleep. You’ll be warm in a while.”
But Fu Hanzhou refused to behave. When Su Yunjing wouldn’t turn around, he continued to poke, like a sulky child demanding candy.
Eventually, Su Yunjing ran out of patience. He turned over, ready to scold but before he could speak, Fu Hanzhou leaned in close.
“I can’t sleep in strange places,” he said matter-of-factly, “I only sleep well when you’re beside me.”
Su Yunjing: “…”
Fine. You’re fragile,you win.
Ever since winter began, the little ice prince had been squeezing into his bed every night, even though he wasn’t sick or injured—always using the same excuse: it’s cold.
And to be fair, his body really was like a block of ice. He thought that once they got through this winter, he’d finally send the hibernating little troublemaker back to his own bed.
But tonight, back from watching a movie at Tang Wei’s, something about the way Fu Hanzhou leaned against him felt… different. He couldn’t put his finger on it—just a strange, quiet awareness.
Fu Hanzhou had always been clingy, but this time, that closeness stirred a faint restlessness in him.
Now the boy was pressed against his side, shifting and wriggling, like a cat trying to find the most comfortable spot.
The soft brush of hair against Su Yunjing’s skin sent tiny shivers up his neck—ticklish, electric, unbearably distracting.
Finally, Fu Hanzhou settled still, his palm resting lightly on Su Yunjing’s stomach through the thin layer of pajamas.
Su Yunjing felt uncomfortable, so he changed his position and lay on his side with his back to Fu Hanzhou.
The person behind him also moved, his chest pressed against his back, his right arm naturally resting around his waist.
Su Yunjing: “…”
Was this kid made of glue or something?
Feeling a bit irritated, he yanked the blanket over himself.
But before long, the blanket was tugged open again. Fu Hanzhou’s low voice came from behind him, vibrating softly through the air.
“Didn’t you say sleeping with the blanket over your head is bad?”
His voice came from deep in his chest, and because he was pressed so close, the vibration traveled right through to him, tickling his ear until it went slightly numb.
Su Yunjing silently pulled the blanket back up again.
“Stop messing around. Go to sleep.”
Fu Hanzhou obediently ducked under the blanket as well, burying his face once more against the back of Su Yunjing’s neck.
Su Yunjing: …this guy really is made of super glue.
….
The New Year’s holiday flew by in three blissful days. There were a few minor hiccups in between, but overall, the trip had been perfect.
The afternoon before school started again, Su Yunjing and Fu Hanzhou took a flight back to Hengling.
Guo Xiuhui and Wen Huaishan had returned a day earlier from Capital, and came to pick them up at the airport.
Even after the trip, Su Yunjing’s heart was still stuck in vacation mode. But the very next day, he was thrown right back into the grind of school life.
With final exams and winter break right around the corner, every teacher seemed to have gone mad, assigning piles of homework so heavy that even he was starting to buckle.
What gave him the biggest headache, though, was that his little tsundere had become even clingier than before.
The two of them were practically glued together twenty-four hours a day, and yet Fu Hanzhou was still anxious.
Back then, it was around this time of year that Lu Jiaming had left him. Even after ten years had passed, Fu Hanzhou still remembered that day with painful clarity.
Maybe that’s why he’d become even more clingy than before—more sensitive, too.
Su Yunjing came out of the bathroom towel-drying his hair when Fu Hanzhou suddenly leaned in close, sniffing him carefully. From the roots of his hair to the very ends, even down to his neck—he didn’t miss a spot.
Like a damn drug-sniffing dog.
Su Yunjing froze at the unexpected ambush, and the warm breath brushing against his ear sent a faint blush creeping up his skin.
“What are you doing?”
Su Yunjing fumbled with his towel, completely thrown off.
Fu Hanzhou straightened up, stepping back a little.
“It’s nothing. It’s just… you smell different. Did you change your shampoo?”
Su Yunjing: “..…”
The supermarket had been running a promotion on shampoo, the same brand they always used at home.
Only, instead of the anti-dandruff one, his grandma had picked up the nourishing version because it was on sale.
The family wasn’t short on money, but Guo Xiuhui was frugal by habit. A discount was a discount. She bought two bottles on the spot.
They were the same brand, sure—but the scents of anti-dandruff and nourishing were slightly different.
Su Yunjing hadn’t noticed any change at all. He just used whatever was sitting in the bathroom.
So now, staring at Fu Hanzhou’s overly serious face, he really didn’t get it.
It was just shampoo. Not like he’d swapped out his soul or something.
Was this reaction necessary?
Seeing that Su Yunjing clearly didn’t understand, Fu Hanzhou’s eyelashes lowered, hiding the flicker in his eyes.
When he looked up again, all the emotions there had been wiped clean.
His voice dropped low.
“I’m just… sensitive to certain scents. I have to smell them to know if they’re okay.”
Su Yunjing still didn’t know the little tsundere had this kind of quirk.
Without thinking, he leaned down and sniffed himself.
Then sniffed again.
Honestly speaking… he really couldn’t tell any difference.
Su Yunjing had long developed a high tolerance for all of Fu Hanzhou’s countless eccentricities.
“So, does this scent pass the test? If not, I’ll go down to the supermarket and buy you another bottle.”
Fu Hanzhou’s mood brightened in an instant.
“It’s fine. I can handle it. I’ll just get used to it after a few days.”
To Su Yunjing, this little guy’s nostalgia was oddly specific.
He had to get used to a new shampoo scent? Seriously?
But what Fu Hanzhou meant by ‘get used to’ was getting used to Su Yunjing’s new scent.
He knew every detail about Su Yunjing — his voice, his movements, even the way he smelled. That familiar scent grounded him; it was how he confirmed that Su Yunjing was still there beside him.
These past few nights, Fu Hanzhou had been waking up several times in the dark.
He didn’t need to open his eyes as long as he could smell that faint, clean scent, he knew the person next to him was his.
But now that the scent had changed,he needed time to adapt all over again.
Su Yunjing had no idea what kind of complicated thoughts were looping through Fu Hanzhou’s head,
but the next day, he still asked Grandma Guo what brand of shampoo they used before.
After school that evening, he took Fu Hanzhou to the supermarket.
Fu Hanzhou rarely went shopping,so he obediently followed behind Su Yunjing all the way to the personal care aisle.
Su Yunjing politely declined the store clerk’s sales pitch
and went straight for that familiar blue bottle of anti-dandruff shampoo.
He picked one off the shelf, opened the cap, and held it out.
“Is this the right scent? My grandma said this is the anti-dandruff kind we used before.”
The reflection of Su Yunjing’s delicate features shimmered in Fu Hanzhou’s dark eyes.
He leaned forward slightly, his fingers wrapping gently around Su Yunjing’s wrist, lifting it just a little closer.
From the open bottle came a rich, concentrated fragrance, not quite the same as the faint scent that lingered on Su Yunjing.
Su Yunjing’s scent was softer, a mix of shampoo, clean soap, and an indescribable scent—something he couldn’t quite name.
It was quietly intoxicating.
It was a scent that was… reassuring.
Fu Hanzhou’s fingers brushed lightly against Su Yunjing’s wrist, tracing the steady pulse beneath his skin.
In his beautiful phoenix eyes shimmered a tender kind of longing.
He gave a soft “Mm,” confirming that this was the right shampoo.
Su Yunjing snapped the cap closed.
“Anything else we need to buy? Something you want to eat?”
Fu Hanzhou answered without hesitation,“Pickled chicken feet, dried tofu, and salted plums.”
Su Yunjing chuckled, those were his favorite snacks.
When they returned home carrying a bag full of junk food, it was no surprise that Grandma Guo gave him a good ‘love-filled lecture’, scolding him for eating nothing but unhealthy snacks.
Before Su Yunjing could defend himself, Fu Hanzhou stepped forward to take the blame.
“I was the one who wanted them. They’re all my favorites.”
Although Grandma Guo wasn’t as cold toward Fu Hanzhou as before, he still wasn’t her biological grandson, so she couldn’t bring herself to scold him too harshly. In the end, she let the snacks slide.
Then she caught sight of the shampoo bottle in the shopping bag and frowned.
“Why’d you buy shampoo again? Didn’t I just get two bottles the other day?”
Su Yunjing had just been silently praising Fu Hanzhou for his loyalty, but this time, the boy dragged him straight down with him.
With a perfectly serious face, Fu Hanzhou said,“He’s got dandruff. He need the anti-dandruff one. The new bottle made his scalp itch.”
Su Yunjing: …Fine. I’ll take that bullet.
After they survived Grandma Guo’s interrogation, Fu Hanzhou reminded him back in their room.
“Remember to keep using this shampoo from now on.”
Su Yunjing sighed.
Since he was now sharing a bed with this clingy little tsundere he might as well follow his lead and switch back to the old shampoo.
Fu Hanzhou’s hair was short— he probably couldn’t even smell his own shampoo. But he could definitely smell Su Yunjing’s.
As soon as spring comes, Su Yunjing thought, I’m making this little hibernating creature move back to his own bed.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t even have the freedom to choose his own shampoo anymore.
After those tense few days passed, Fu Hanzhou gradually returned to normal— not as hypersensitive as before.
Even the tiniest changes in him used to make him uneasy, but now, things were finally settling down.
As the New Year approached, he finished his final exams and welcomed winter break.
Fu Hanzhou’s grades had improved a lot— from the low 300 up to the high 200, still near the bottom of the list, but for him, it was real progress.
Though getting into a top university was still out of reach, the fact that he was studying seriously at all was already a pleasant surprise for Shen Nianyun.
He never would have imagined that his son would get along with Su Yunjing this well— not only staying out of trouble together, but actually helping each other improve.
