A Beauty That Moves the Heart (GL, ABO) - Chapter 5
Xu Jinman replied with a single word, confirming Yin Xue’s question.
After sitting on the stairs for a few minutes to calm down, she slowly made her way back to her hospital room.
The moment her backside touched the bed, her phone vibrated again.
Yin Xue: [Xu Jinman, do you have to piss me off like this?]
Yin Xue: [If you want to cut ties, then let’s make it clean.]
Xu Jinman smiled faintly.
This wasn’t the first time Yin Xue had used this tactic, but the original owner had always fallen for it, unable to hold out for more than a few days before caving and coaxing her back.
Yin Xue herself was just like the original owner, a cannon fodder character.
She had no moral bottom line. Many of the people the original owner had taken a liking to were delivered to her by Yin Xue’s schemes. Some of the more disgusting things had even been done by the two of them together, which was why, compared to others, the original owner had been closer to her.
Xu Jinman couldn’t wait to sever this messy relationship for good.
Starlight Restaurant, North City.
Yin Xue was dressed in a deep blue Chanel-style suit, her eyes and brows exuding charm. Her snow-white legs were crossed elegantly as she leisurely cut into her steak with a knife and fork.
Sitting across from her was a stunning Alpha: “Xiao Xue, have you thought about it? If you agree to be with me, I promise you won’t regret it.”
Yin Xue glanced at her lit-up phone.
Xu Jinman: [Keep your word.]
Yin Xue: “…” Damn it, Xu Jinman, you’re ruthless!
A surge of anger lodged in Yin Xue’s throat, and she nearly flung her knife and fork aside. Suppressing her rage, she suddenly thought of something, her eyes glinting as she smirked at the Alpha across from her. “Aren’t you afraid of my relationship with Xu Jinman?”
The Alpha paused. “Didn’t she already marry that beautiful Omega from the Shen family?”
Hearing this description, Yin Xue’s mind flashed to Shen Shu’s exquisitely sculpted face. Her expression cooled several degrees. “Xu Jinman will get bored with someone as dull as Shen Shu after a couple of days.”
The Alpha hesitated slightly, wary. Xu Jinman was a madwoman—anyone who crossed her ended up regretting it.
Noticing her hesitation, Yin Xue taunted, “What? Scared already?”
Those three words carried a provocative ambiguity, the kind Alphas despised hearing the most.
The Alpha across from her lifted her chin. “It’s not like I’m afraid of her. If you agree to be with me, I’ll handle things with Xu Jinman.”
“Why should you go alone? I heard she and her new wife are in the hospital. Let’s visit them together in a couple of days.” Yin Xue picked up her wine glass, her smile bewitching.
The Alpha’s eyes lit up with delight was this a yes?
Yin Xue took a sip. If Xu Jinman wanted to play hard to get, then fine she’d play along!
But would Xu Jinman really stay composed if she saw her with another Alpha?
That woman’s possessiveness was legendary.
Xu Jinman spent two days in the hospital, her phone turned off, and she used her influence to firmly reject all visitors.
Even so, she couldn’t escape the reach of capital’s mother, Lu Yun.
Lu Yun was a stunning, dignified woman who had maintained her figure impeccably. The moment she entered the hospital room and saw Xu Jinman on the bed, she rushed over and hugged her tightly, as if she were still a baby in swaddling clothes.
Xu Jinman had never experienced this kind of maternal affection before and felt a little awkward. After a few seconds, she patted Lu Yun’s back. “Mom, I’m fine. It was just a check-up.”
When Lu Yun finally let go, her eyes were brimming with tears as she cupped Xu Jinman’s face, lamenting how thin she looked.
She immediately ordered the seven or eight thermal containers she’d brought to be placed on the table, opening them one by one and reciting the dishes like a menu.
Xu Jinman nodded along, even offering a few compliments.
Lu Yun paused, giving her a surprised look. “What’s gotten into you today?”
Xu Jinman’s heart skipped a beat.
Based on her impression, the original owner might have been reckless outside, but she still put on an act in front of her influential parents especially Lu Yun. She thought she had played her part well.
The next second, Lu Yun said, “Every time you sweet-talk, it means trouble. Out with it, what mess have you gotten into this time?”
“…”
Xu Jinman had been nervous for nothing. Before she could even speak, Lu Yun patted her hand with a knowing expression. “It’s about that Shen Shu, isn’t it? I’ve already spoken to the Shen family and told them to teach their daughter how to behave as a proper wife.”
It was clear Lu Yun didn’t like Shen Shu. Xu Jinman tried to appeal to her conscience: “I’m not even a real Alpha, just an Omega who failed to differentiate properly.” She was the one who didn’t deserve Shen Shu.
Lu Yun frowned, her eyes turning cold. “Did she say something nasty to you?!”
Her real intention was to ask whether Shen Shu had discovered her secret of pretending to be an Alpha.
Xu Jinman shook her head. “I just think this whole thing is pointless.” It was obvious that if she had nodded, Lu Yun’s next target wouldn’t be the Shen family but Shen Shu herself.
Lu Yun tightened her grip on Xu Jinman’s hand, her expression now tinged with worry. “Manman, what’s wrong with you? Remember, you’re the best! No matter what you want, I’ll move heaven and earth to get it for you. So don’t ever say you’re a failure again.”
It seemed changing Lu Yun’s mind wouldn’t be easy. Xu Jinman sighed and nodded. While Lu Yun’s doting was genuine, there was also an unmistakable undercurrent of appeasement.
Lu Yun was probably afraid of what she might do if pushed too far.
Then, Lu Yun dropped another bombshell: “When you decide to divorce, don’t worry about your father scolding you. We all know you only married for fun no one in this family takes it seriously.”
Xu Jinman had to exert tremendous effort to swallow the curses on her tongue.
She couldn’t understand it. Shen Shu was a top-tier Omega talented, beautiful, with a perfect figure. She had everything going for her. How could these people look down on her like this?
Ultimately, it all came back to the original owner’s rotten behavior. Even the wedding had been a slapdash affair in some small hotel, the whole thing over in less than half an hour.
The only reason Lu Yun had shown up was to avoid gossip about Xu Jinman’s reputation.
If not for the original owner’s humiliation and disdain, the people around her wouldn’t have treated Shen Shu this way.
“I don’t want a divorce.”
Xu Jinman spoke firmly. “Unless she asks for one, I won’t leave her.”
For now, Shen Shu wouldn’t bring it up, not while she was still concerned about the mess with the Shen family.
Xu Jinman also didn’t want it to happen now. A divorce at this stage would only make Shen Shu’s situation worse in every way. It was better to let her use their marital status to stabilize her own position first.
Lu Yun nodded dismissively, clearly not believing a word she said.
After finally managing to send Lu Yun away, Xu Jinman sat on the bed, her head buzzing. Now, she wasn’t just heartbroken for Shen Shu, she was furious on her behalf.
Xu Jinman resolved to help Shen Shu.
But first, their relationship couldn’t deteriorate any further.
Her gaze fell on the thermal containers on the table.
She hadn’t visited Shen Shu these past two days and had no idea how she was holding up.
After a moment’s thought, Xu Jinman got up, tasted each of the soups, and picked the best one, a shrimp congee to take with her.
She hesitated for a few seconds outside Shen Shu’s hospital room. Just as she raised her hand to knock, a nurse opened the door from inside.
Upon seeing her, he showed a hint of surprise before stepping aside from the doorway and said, “Miss Shen has fallen asleep.”
Xu Jinman actually felt a wave of relief. Treading lightly, she entered to find the Omega lying on her side like a sleeping beauty, her delicate face peeking out from the snow-white blanket, with strands of jet-black hair scattered lazily across the pillow.
Gently placing the porridge on the table, Xu Jinman gazed at Shen Shu’s face for a moment.
Unconsciously, she moved closer, bending slightly to focus on her eyes those long, slightly curved lashes were so distinct they looked like they’d been meticulously sketched with a pencil.
Xu Jinman murmured softly, “Tsk, such long lashes.”
Suddenly, she noticed Shen Shu’s eyelashes flutter.
