- Chapter 38 1.1 - The Blood-Spattered Defeated Man (Part 1)
The sky finally appeared again. The afternoon sun tore through the sweet-smelling bloody mist. As the mist dispersed, only a “cocoon” tightly wrapped in the Ice Soul Silk Gauze remained inside. The Ice Soul Silk Gauze, woven from snow silkworm thread, spiraled open, and the one who emerged from the “cocoon” was an equally snow-white, beautiful lady. Her weapon was unstained by bl00d. Round bl00d drops quickly slid down the wavy, flowing arc, like beads on a broken string, flying out from the tip.
The ground was everywhere a shocking red.
Her wrist trembled slightly, gathering the weapon into a bundle. The copper Name Token was covered in bl00d. The woman’s pale finger pinched a leaf to wipe it, and the three characters became clear—
“Tu Mo Ren” (Demon Slayer)… She whispered this name, which still carried a bizarre aura, as if still harboring many doubts.
Suddenly, a miserable wolf howl came from the southeast, and the leaves rustled. The lady looked up, feeling a wind coming from that direction, carrying a tragic aura. Then came a clear, high-pitched flute sound, calmly and proudly suppressing the wolf’s hysterical howl, leaving it no room for arrogance.
Her cold eyes finally melted into a warm, soothing smile: “The strongest Beast Master in history is indeed our Jinse.”
Outside the wolf den.
“Jinse! Please don’t kill it,” Xue Qianxun said anxiously.
At the crucial moment, Jinse suppressed the red silkworm thread taut in the void. At the same time, the Taiyin Doll at the other end of the red thread stopped its ten fingers with their frightening sharp claws. Its petal-like soft lips moved slightly, emitting a low, disappointed and unwilling moan. The weak Great Heavenly Wolf stared directly at Jinse with its bloodshot eyes, its gaze full of complex emotions, like that of a human.
The wind blew gently, and only the jade pieces on the Taiyin Doll’s bracelet jingled.
“Are you soft-hearted again?” Jinse did not pay attention to the wolf’s terrifying gaze, turning her face to smile lightly at Xue Qianxun.
Xue Qianxun turned her head away, avoiding Jinse’s light-as-a-cloud smile. She didn’t know what kind of deep concern was hidden beneath that shallow smile.
Xue Qianxun was about to speak in response to Jinse, but she looked up and saw a faint figure in the distance. Her slightly parted lips instantly stopped moving.
Following Xue Qianxun’s gaze, Jinse also saw the person: pure as snow, gentle as snow, cold as snow; her toes skimmed over the treetops, her robes fluttering, graceful as a startled swan.
Jinse’s smile subtly changed, then she brightly called out to the person: “Hey! Ice Sculpture!”
The Ice Sculpture finally noticed her companions. Her gentle smile melted the icy, frosted look of her face when she was lost in thought.
“With that solemn expression and hurried pace, where are you intending to go?” Jinse asked with a serious look.
Xifeng answered just as seriously: “I heard the sound of someone bullying a wild beast, so I came to see the excitement. —It turns out it was you, ah.”
She had originally followed the wolf howl and the flute sound, but she had been flying and pondering other things all the way, not noticing her companions in time.
Xue Qianxun walked a few steps closer, her cheeks dimpling with a smile. She pointed back at Jinse and said to Xifeng, “Jinse killed the Little Wolf Cub and is now going to kill the weak Heavenly Wolf. Jinse simply doesn’t bat an eye when killing.” It was almost like complaining.
Xifeng said, “If I saw our even weaker physician lying behind the Heavenly Wolf, I might make the same decision as Jinse. However—” Xifeng’s tone shifted. She gazed at Jinse and said, “It’s not hard to realize, after observing this half-dead old wolf for a bit, that Zhuque was not injured by the Heavenly Wolf.” She slowly walked around the Heavenly Wolf and picked up Zhuque’s wrist, who was unconscious, musing, “Zhuque must have exhausted the yuanqi she had just recovered in a desperate effort to save the Heavenly Wolf’s life.”
The Heavenly Wolf showed no fear or hostility when facing Xifeng. It seemed to sense an aura emanating from Xifeng that was no longer just dominance, but a regal aura so powerful that it no longer easily generated murderous intent towards anyone.
Xue Qianxun said, “There are no bloodstains on Zhuque’s clothes, and her posture is peaceful. She doesn’t look like she was harmed by anyone. I reminded Jinse, you know.”
Jinse leaned lazily against the tree trunk, saying nothing.
Xifeng looked at Jinse, smiling faintly, a very knowing smile: “She was just trying to tease you.” However, why did Jinse always provoke Xue Qianxun to get upset with her?
Xue Qianxun said, “Jinse is the worst. Before, at the Spring River Courtyard, there wasn’t a day we didn’t bicker, and she always made me angry.”
“And she always made you forget loneliness,” Xifeng interjected.
“I’m not lonely at all now, and she still…”
“How is Tang Fei?” Xifeng interrupted.
