A Flirtatious Beauty Alpha Provokes a Crazy Omega - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: Radiant
The weather forecast had predicted rain yesterday, and sure enough, it was drizzling this morning.
Last night, after delivering something to Yan Wei and returning to her room, Jiang Mi realized she had left her script at Yan Wei’s place. It drove her crazy—she tossed and turned all night and barely slept. Now, standing by the sink peeling oranges, she couldn’t stop yawning.
Zhao Jia came upstairs to help her pack and said, “Losing your script really isn’t good.”
Jiang Mi replied, “It’s not just about the script.”
Zhao Jia asked, “Then what is it? What, is there something in the script you don’t want anyone to see?”
Jiang Mi: “…”
There really was.
She didn’t continue that topic. Still yawning, Jiang Mi peeled another orange. Zhao Jia said, “Anyway, I’m already bringing something for Shen Ruoxi. I could’ve just juiced the fruit together and brought it all at once.”
“It’s more sincere if I do it myself,” Jiang Mi replied.
She didn’t know why, but she had the feeling Yan Wei seemed to prefer the things she made by hand.
Zhao Jia said, “You’re giving it to Shen Ruoxi too, so why not make both at once?”
Jiang Mi didn’t even look up. “It’s different.”
Zhao Jia argued, “How’s it different? They’re both coworkers.”
Jiang Mi looked at her, and Zhao Jia clicked her tongue: “I get it, Yan Wei is your beloved idol. You have to respect her, be sincere. What, are you going to bathe in holy water before seeing her next time?”
Jiang Mi: “…”
Zhao Jia burst out laughing. Talking about Yan Wei was the only time she could get the upper hand. After laughing for a bit, she said more seriously, “Well, she is worth the reverence. There’s a red carpet event at the end of the month. You’ll be attending, and Yan Wei will be there too. We’ve got to ride her coattails.”
Jiang Mi lowered her head, pressing the juicer button and waiting for the fresh juice to flow into the clear container. “You got the spot?”
“We pulled every string we had. My face almost fell off from all the begging. We’ll go tomorrow afternoon to pick out your gown. Both Film Queen Yan and Shen Ruoxi will be there, and with Spring trending, this is a must-grab opportunity. The more exposure the better.”
Jiang Mi nodded. “I understand.”
Zhao Jia noticed she still looked reluctant. “I’m not asking you to fake a CP (couple pairing) with either of them. We don’t have the clout or the face for that. We’re just borrowing some screen time.”
Jiang Mi said, “I’m not unwilling. I just worry the two of them might be unwilling.”
“It’s fine. Everyone in the industry’s been through it. Those who get it, get it. We’ll try not to crowd their shots. No big deal.”
Jiang Mi said no more.
She took a sealed cup of honey grapefruit tea from the fridge, took a sip, then handed another cup to Zhao Jia.
Zhao Jia was touched. “Aw, our precious Mimi really knows how to take care of people.”
“It’s leftovers from yesterday’s experiments. There are three cups left—we each get one and a half, okay?” Jiang Mi grinned.
“…”
“I get the overnight batch?”
“I’m drinking it too! Wouldn’t it be a waste to throw it out?”
Zhao Jia rolled her eyes and tasted it. “You added too much honey. Don’t drink too much.”
Jiang Mi: “Okay.”
“Getting up this early just to freshly juice fruit for your idol. When will I ever get such treatment?” Zhao Jia watched Jiang Mi carefully wipe condensation off the plastic cup and sighed with envy.
Jiang Mi sighed dramatically. “Didn’t I already sell myself to you? Can you not nitpick anymore? Please? Pretty please?”
Zhao Jia snorted and gave her a playful poke on the shoulder. “Get out of here.”
Outside, the sky was just beginning to brighten. Because of the temperature drop, Zhao Jia had dressed Jiang Mi in a new thick coat. The two chatted quietly as they waited for the elevator.
As the doors opened, everyone was slightly surprised.
Besides Yan Wei, the three greeted one another at nearly the same time.
Bai Qiu followed Yan Wei and stepped aside to make room. Jiang Mi first looked at Yan Wei, then scanned her up and down. She seemed underdressed for the weather. At the same time, Jiang Mi thought, If Yan Wei doesn’t bring it up, I’ll have to find a way to ask for my script back.
All she could do now was hope Yan Wei hadn’t opened it.
In the hotel parking lot, Jiang Mi’s van had already pulled up. After exchanging quick greetings with Yan Wei and Bai Qiu, she and Zhao Jia were about to get in.
Just then, they heard Bai Qiu speaking behind them.
“Huh? Is everyone okay? Will you still be able to make it?”
After Bai Qiu ended the call, Zhao Jia asked, “What’s going on? Is everything okay?”
Bai Qiu replied, “Our car was cut off on the road. We’ve already called the police, but it’ll take a while to sort out.”
“Then just ride with us,” Jiang Mi said decisively. “We’re all going to the same place anyway.”
…
The van sponsored by Zhou Shanshan was a BMW 3X, five seats—just enough for the group.
Zhao Jia sat up front, while Jiang Mi, Bai Qiu, and Yan Wei sat in the second row. Zhao Jia occasionally tried to make conversation. Jiang Mi and Bai Qiu would reply, but Yan Wei was almost entirely silent.
Jiang Mi turned her head and noticed that Yan Wei spent most of the ride gazing out the window. When they entered a tunnel, Jiang Mi caught a glimpse of Yan Wei’s reflection in the glass — her expression was so cold, she didn’t even seem alive.
Her eyes were vacant, as if she had no interest in anything.
Jiang Mi didn’t realize that the moment she looked away, Yan Wei’s phoenix eyes shifted slightly in the reflection — sharp and oppressive, taking control in the blink of an eye.
“Oh right, Ms. Yan, this is for you,” Jiang Mi finally remembered. Looking across Bai Qiu toward Yan Wei, she said, “You probably haven’t had breakfast yet.”
Yan Wei had warned her not to give her anything again, so Bai Qiu didn’t dare accept on her behalf. She was just about to politely decline when Jiang Mi added:
“I juiced the apples myself. It’s still warm. Zhao Jia also made a salad with egg, lettuce, and chicken br3ast.”
Bai Qiu wasn’t sure if Yan Wei wanted it, but she definitely did. That manager could really cook.
Too bad it wasn’t for her.
Bai Qiu began to speak. “Jiang—”
Before she could finish, Yan Wei’s calm voice interrupted: “Juice? Thanks.”
Jiang Mi’s eyes lit up. She reached into the bag, took out the juice, and passed it to Yan Wei across Bai Qiu.
Bai Qiu leaned back in surprise. When she turned her head, she saw Jiang Mi looking at her curiously. “Qiuqiu, what were you going to say just now?”
Bai Qiu: “…I was going to say you and Jia-jie are amazing. Unlike me—I can’t cook at all.”
(Ms. Yan, didn’t you say you weren’t going to take anything from her?)
Jiang Mi smiled and handed the salad to her. “You probably didn’t have breakfast either. Want to try this? Zhao Jia’s cooking is even better than mine.”
Bai Qiu happily accepted and thanked her.
Just before arriving at the set, Jiang Mi finally heard the sound of a cup lid being opened.
She turned her head but couldn’t see Yan Wei because Bai Qiu was in the way. So she had no idea what kind of expression Yan Wei was wearing.
The car was quiet for a few moments.
Jiang Mi asked, “Ms. Yan, how does it taste?”
The apple juice was still warm in Yan Wei’s hand, the sweet-sour flavor lingering on her tongue.
Yan Wei replied slowly, “Not bad.”
…Bai Qiu shrank into her seat. For a moment, she felt like a bit of a third wheel…
…
Ten minutes later, the car passed through the base gates and stopped near the set. That’s when tiny raindrops began tapping against the window. The rain had held off just until they arrived.
Yan Wei opened her door first. Cold wind blew in. At the same time, Jiang Mi opened hers on the opposite side.
Spring rains come fast.
Most people nearby had no umbrellas and were running toward the covered filming area. Someone had already gone to get an umbrella for Yan Wei, but she was already walking ahead briskly.
After just a few steps, something darkened above her head — like a storm cloud rolling in. But it was just Bai Qiu holding an umbrella: “Mimi gave it to us, along with this coat. She said it’s brand new and never worn.”
It was a white, short plush jacket. As Bai Qiu finished speaking, Jiang Mi and Zhao Jia ran past them.
Yan Wei looked up. Jiang Mi’s hand was over her own head, shielding her from the rain. The shadow of her palm cast over her bright eyes as she smiled and called out: “See you later!”
At that moment, all Yan Wei could see was the brilliance of her smile — lips red, teeth white, and a radiant warmth.
That warmth… was something Yan Wei knew she would never possess in this life. It stung her eyes. She wanted to grasp something — her fingers curled slightly.
Then she realized the warmth was coming from her palm — apple juice, sweet and sticky, had spilled from the straw onto her pale hand. Yet she could swear it smelled like milk.
As she stared at the juice, an image of Jiang Mi’s delicate fingers holding an apple flashed through her mind — and her tongue suddenly felt dry.
Her condition… seemed to be getting worse.
