A Flirtatious Beauty Alpha Provokes a Crazy Omega - Chapter 16
Chapter 16: Velvet
At 10 a.m. the next morning, the doorbell of the hotel suite rang several times before it opened from the inside.
Although Yan Wei didn’t have any scenes scheduled that morning, her agenda was still full. Draped in a classic plaid cashmere shawl, she sat on the sofa as a group of people wheeled in a rack of exquisitely tailored gowns. Surui’s fingers brushed over a pearl waistband as she said, “These are all the latest styles. These two vintage Dior pieces just arrived this morning. Personally, I think they’re great. Pick one.”
None of the sets delivered last time caught Yan Wei’s eye, so Surui had to come in person again.
One by one, the dust covers were removed, revealing a dazzling array of dresses. The staff, all wearing gloves, presented each piece in front of her.
Yan Wei’s gaze swept over them and finally landed on a black one.
Surui looked at the limited-edition velvet gown and praised, “It really suits you.”
Seeing that Yan Wei had no further input, she turned to the staff and nodded. With the decision made, Surui let out a breath of relief. “Things are hectic at the company lately. How’s Bai Qiu doing? If she’s not to your liking, let me know.”
Yan Wei bent down to pick up the hot tea on the coffee table, took a sip, and checked her WeChat.
Surui didn’t leave immediately. As a manager, she instinctively looked around, checking for anything out of place. She was meticulous—Yan Wei was extremely picky and had a bit of a cleanliness obsession.
Finally, her gaze landed on a paper bag in the corner of the table.
“What’s that? Do you want me to pack it up?”
Hearing this, Yan Wei looked up. She had almost forgotten about it. After a slight pause, she said, “Leave it.”
Seeing there was nothing else needed, Surui said her goodbyes and left. As soon as the door closed behind her, her smile faded slightly, and her whole body relaxed.
The room was finally quiet.
Yan Wei’s eyes fell on the corner. She walked over and pulled a long box from the bag. Opening it, she took out a pink and white thermos with a metal straw.
She examined it carefully. On the cup was engraved a line of text: “You must be happy every day!”
In her mind, she could almost hear the tone in which that person would say those words.
For some reason, Yan Wei started thinking about how Jiang Mi called her—how she called others too: “Jiajia,” “Teacher Shen,” “Qiuqiu”…
Then, Yan Wei recalled the little ornament Bai Qiu had lost.
With no change in expression, she texted Surui: Replace her.
…
Jiang Mi was feeling quite anxious.
She had a rare day off with no scheduled scenes. Following the original plan, she had called Mo Yun, and so… she now found herself standing outside Yan Wei’s apartment.
Even though Mo Yun had reassured her that Yan Wei wouldn’t be home, Jiang Mi still felt nervous holding a small bouquet of flowers as she rang the doorbell.
After all, this was still Yan Wei’s home. Visiting when the owner wasn’t around didn’t feel entirely right…
The moment the door opened, a bright voice startled her.
Inside was a woman with light brown long hair and features a little similar to Yan Wei’s. Her skin was warm-toned, and her smile revealed a dimple in her cheek. She greeted Jiang Mi, “Hello, Sister Jiang Mi! Surprise!!”
“Hey, Mo Xi.”
Mo Xi affectionately grabbed her wrist and pulled her in. “Mom! Sister Jiang Mi is here!”
Mo Yun came out from the kitchen with a kind smile and invited her to sit down, while Mo Xi tugged her toward the bedroom. “I have to show you something amazing!”
Inside Mo Xi’s room, Jiang Mi noticed a framed island map on the wall—but didn’t think much of it.
Mo Xi pulled several rolled posters from her bag and spread them out. “Look! These are your early photoshoots! And the promo poster from your debut film…”
Even Jiang Mi was shocked by how rare these items were.
“They’re from a friend of mine. She’s a big fan of yours and has been collecting them for years. She asked me to bring them for your signature now that she knows I’d be seeing you. Sister Jiang, sorry to trouble you~”
“It’s my pleasure. Please thank her for liking me,” Jiang Mi replied with genuine emotion. She’d never imagined there were fans out there who loved her this much.
“My friend will be thrilled,” Mo Xi said brightly.
Feeling a bit awkward staying in someone else’s room, Jiang Mi quickly signed them and followed Mo Xi out. As they passed the study, she glanced over instinctively.
The door was slightly ajar. Silent.
All this time, and Yan Wei still hadn’t had someone fix it?
“I’ve been so busy lately, otherwise I would’ve invited you over sooner.” Back in the living room, Mo Xi sat beside her and asked, “By the way, how’s filming going with my sister? All good?”
Jiang Mi nodded. “Pretty good. Teacher Yan has helped me a lot. Things are going smoothly.”
Mo Xi glanced toward the kitchen and lowered her voice, “That’s good. My sister is kind of cold, even at home she doesn’t talk much. If it’s not too much trouble, please look out for her on set.”
“I’ll try.”
Though honestly, Yan Wei didn’t need anyone looking after her.
“My sister rarely comes home. I guess you’ve noticed she and my mom don’t get along. That’s why I come over to her place whenever I’m off work—so we might still run into each other as a family. Otherwise, she wouldn’t even come home once a year.”
“What kind of issues? I mean… if it’s okay to ask?”
“Oh, just family stuff. We moved when I was really little, so I didn’t remember much. I only found out later from Mom. That’s why I feel like meeting you again now is such a coincidence—and I really like you. I was so excited when I found out you and my sister were filming together. Having someone I know around her gives me peace of mind. Sister Jiang, could you try persuading her to visit home more often?”
Mo Xi looked toward the kitchen again.
Jiang Mi thought, Honestly, your sister and I aren’t even that close…
Still, she said, “I’ll try, if there’s a good opportunity.” Even though she knew there likely wouldn’t be, she didn’t want to disappoint Mo Xi.
They chatted a bit about the set, and suddenly Mo Xi leaned closer. “Do you and my sister have a kissing scene?”
Jiang Mi nearly choked on her drink and subtly pulled back. “…The director said we’re not supposed to spoil anything.”
The production hadn’t released any info yet, and besides, with the mom just a room away, she couldn’t risk saying too much.
Mo Xi, satisfied, nodded knowingly and smiled. “It would be great if you did. You two would look so good together. If not, that’d be such a pity.”
“…Please stop, sister.”
Jiang Mi replied quietly, sneaking glances at the kitchen, worried Mo Yun might overhear.
They moved on to lighter behind-the-scenes gossip, and Jiang Mi relaxed a little. Maybe people outside the industry just found showbiz incredibly fascinating. Even during dinner, Mo Xi kept asking the occasional scandal question.
Eventually, she asked about Jiang Mi herself.
“By the way, Sister Jiang, did you really date Apple?”
Jiang Mi couldn’t help choking again. She cleared her throat and shook her head. “Of course not. She’s a very good friend.”
She remembered the photo that sparked the rumor—Apple had lost a role to someone else and was nearly assaulted after being lured to a fake meeting. She called Jiang Mi in tears, and Jiang Mi rushed over. They were photographed hugging outside.
That was probably the most buzz she’d ever had.
Mo Xi nodded, hard to tell if she believed it. She seemed ready to ask more until Mo Yun, watching the situation, put a shrimp in her bowl. “That’s enough. Let the girl eat.”
They ate warmly and happily.
But as the meal wore on, a strange emotion crept up inside Jiang Mi. Like a single pebble hidden in a bed of soft down—it took time to notice, but once felt, it unsettled everything.
She insisted on doing the dishes before saying her goodbyes. Though they urged her to stay the night, she politely declined, saying she had lines to study. She even took the kitchen trash with her.
Heading downstairs, she dropped the garbage off at the sorting station and walked slowly out. The sky was a bluish-gray, and the warm glow of streetlights gave the evening a cozy air.
Maybe it had been too warm inside—stepping out, Jiang Mi immediately felt the chill.
She looked up, wind brushing the strands of hair on her shoulder. She could just make out the bright lights of the 16th floor. In her mind, she saw Mo Xi’s cheerful, radiant face—a kind of joy she’d never seen on Yan Wei’s.
But it wasn’t her place to dwell on it. After all…
Lost in thought, she didn’t notice the sound of approaching footsteps—familiar footsteps. They stopped.
She instinctively turned her head—and paused.
Yan Wei stood a short distance away, dressed in a black trench coat, a black mask covering her face, quietly watching her.
