A Flirtatious Beauty Alpha Provokes a Crazy Omega - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Listen
“Then we’ll have to reschedule next time.”
Shen Ruoxi nodded understandingly and followed Jiang Mi’s lead, covering her mouth to stifle a yawn, speaking with a helpless tone, “Are our birth charts mismatched or something? Feels like this meal of ours is getting postponed all the way to next year.”
Jiang Mi agreed wholeheartedly. She tilted her face slightly upward as the makeup artist gently brushed powder along her cheeks.
She had even fleetingly wondered earlier—could Yan Wei have interfered somehow? But she dismissed it almost immediately.
Yan Wei cared a bit too much about her, sure, but not to that extreme.
By the time the second scene wrapped up, it was nearly noon. Jiang Mi accepted a wet towel from the temporary assistant and carefully wiped off the dust makeup on her face.
“Sister Mi, Sister Zhao just called—asked you to check your phone,” the assistant whispered.
Jiang Mi’s heart tightened. She guessed there must be an update about Apple. She pulled out her phone and quickly walked toward the break room, saying to the assistant, “You go rest. No need to follow me.”
Once she had walked a few steps and confirmed no one was around, she took out her phone and dialed Zhao Jia.
“Is it over?” Jiang Mi asked.
Zhao Jia’s voice came through immediately, with a faint note of relief. “Apple woke up.”
That tight, heavy breath in Jiang Mi’s chest finally released.
“How is she now?”
“She’s still kind of out of it, not really talking. After asking about you once, she didn’t say anything else. I didn’t push. But overall, she seems okay. I’m here with her. You focus on your work for now, don’t rush over.”
Zhao Jia’s rapid speech left Jiang Mi barely any space to breathe before she switched topics: “How are things on your end? Everything going smoothly?”
“Still okay.” Jiang Mi’s mind was clearly still elsewhere. “Did she eat anything?”
“Threw up whatever I gave her. Barely managed to drink a little water,” Zhao Jia said, quickly adding to ease her worry, “Don’t worry. I’ll figure something out to get some energy in her. You take care on set.”
“Mm.”
After hanging up, Jiang Mi swiftly opened her food delivery app and ordered a bowl of beef congee to be delivered directly to Apple’s hotel room.
Then she sent Zhao Jia a message:
“I ordered the congee Apple usually likes. Make sure she drinks a bit when it arrives. I’ll try to come over as soon as I can.”
The matter with Chen Qiao still sat like a stone on her chest. If they didn’t eliminate that hidden danger, even if Apple recovered this time, she’d still be at the mercy of his harassment in the future.
This dinner with Yan Wei had now become critical—both for her relationship with Yan Wei and for resolving the situation with Chen Qiao.
As wrap-up time approached in the evening, Jiang Mi sent another message checking in. This time, Zhao Jia’s reply came after a long delay:
“Her temperature suddenly spiked like crazy. I just called a doctor.”
Not long after, another message popped up:
“She probably won’t listen unless it’s you. Will you still be able to come after dinner with Ms. Yan tonight?”
Jiang Mi’s heart skipped. That question…
Of course she would go.
What else would she do after dinner?
“I’ll go.”
After replying, she stared at the screen, heart now slightly unsettled.
In truth, she felt that comforting Apple should come first right now.
She paused, her gaze instinctively drifting to the closed door of Yan Wei’s dressing room across the way.
That door had stood like a silent wall since earlier—as if already hinting at the risk of what breaking this appointment might cost.
Jiang Mi thought it over carefully, inhaled deeply several times, and finally made her decision.
She raised her hand and gently knocked on the dressing room door.
Inside, Surui quickly responded. The door opened, and when she saw Jiang Mi standing there, a flicker of surprise crossed her face. She instinctively glanced back toward Yan Wei, who was sitting in front of the mirror.
“Miss Jiang?”
Almost at the same time, she noticed the look Yan Wei shot her through the mirror and immediately stepped aside without a word, clearing a path for Jiang Mi.
“I… I’ll step out and make a call.”
Surui made up an excuse and slipped out. When you know, you know—time to give them space.
Jiang Mi stood silently for a moment. Only when her eyes met Yan Wei’s through the mirror did she walk forward with composure.
“I’d like to discuss something with you,” she said calmly.
Yan Wei didn’t turn her head. Her eyes shifted slightly in the mirror, and a single syllable left her lips: “Speak.”
It seemed she already expected she wouldn’t like what Jiang Mi was about to say.
“Can we postpone tonight’s dinner until tomorrow?” Jiang Mi’s voice dropped.
She was the one who had agreed first, so she didn’t exactly have the upper hand.
The moment the words left her lips, the air around her thickened with tension. Jiang Mi could feel the weight of those Omega eyes on her, heavy and threatening even through the mirror.
She hadn’t intended to lie, but now she hesitated. Still, she ultimately chose the truth.
“Apple’s not doing so well. I’d like to check on her first. I’m worried it’ll get too late if I go afterward, so I wanted to see if we could shift to tomorrow?” she said carefully.
So breaking their dinner appointment was okay if it meant putting someone else first.
Yan Wei’s gaze had already turned icy. “Are you sure?”
Jiang Mi was too familiar with this pressure.
She hesitated a moment, then said, “Please don’t be mad…”
She stared at Yan Wei for a few seconds, then slowly walked to her side, lowering her voice: “I’m not backing out. I just didn’t want to keep you waiting. Tomorrow I’ll have more time.”
A delicate web of roses and brandy spun tight, and Yan Wei said, “Is this your bargaining chip?”
“Hm?”
“You’re saying this now because you want something in return?”
That might’ve been her intention, but was it truly? Would Jiang Mi be speaking so gently if not for Apple’s situation? If it weren’t for this, would she be lowering herself like this at all?
The same now—she was willing to stand her up for Apple.
It was a subtle emotion.
A dangerous flicker danced in Yan Wei’s pupils. She pressed her tongue lightly against her teeth, gaze dropping to Jiang Mi’s throat, where a nervous swallow rippled.
If Jiang Mi dared nod in the next second, no Apple or anyone else would stop her—
“It’s not that.”
Jiang Mi pinched her fingers. “I really just didn’t want you to wait too long.”
In the mirror, Yan Wei could only see Jiang Mi’s lowered features. She suddenly turned and tilted her head, eyes locking onto the trembling lashes of the Alpha in front of her.
“Too long?”
She seemed to read every flicker of emotion in Jiang Mi’s face.
Jiang Mi froze. Was that a hint—how long were you planning to stay?
She realized Yan Wei’s earlier comment probably came from believing that their conversation only happened because Jiang Mi had something to gain.
Yan Wei didn’t know—what really moved Jiang Mi was the way Yan Wei had stepped forward first, like that carefully chosen outfit that night, or that unexpected phone call, or that breakfast invitation.
Things had changed.
Her defenses around Yan Wei had softened.
So she was willing to step forward too.
As long as Yan Wei had that intent, she would go even further.
Apple’s situation had made her realize—did she truly understand Yan Wei? Did Yan Wei understand her?
Not really.
But she was willing to try.
Why not bet on this once?
Even if ahead was just a mirage, it would still be worth reaching for some glimmer of light.
She didn’t know where this might lead—how far or how illusory—but at least, she would have chosen to try.
With this in mind, Jiang Mi said, “We’ve been friends for years. She’s in trouble now, and the person helping her—President Tan—is your friend. Maybe you’ve heard a little? Apple’s situation is awful… She just woke up today. Zhao Jia said she’s still weak, so I want to see her first. I won’t stay long. I just didn’t want to be late for our dinner—that’s all.”
She glanced at Yan Wei’s expression. Suddenly, like a flash of intuition, her lashes fluttered slightly from nerves. Then she reached out and lightly tugged the edge of Yan Wei’s shawl—like a child grabbing an adult’s coat.
She tried, “So… tomorrow? Is that okay?”
Yan Wei’s lashes trembled slightly.
Her gaze dropped to the pale, slender hand gripping the fringe of her shawl. She could almost feel its warmth.
She stared at the wrist that looked ready to retreat. Then, without warning, she extended a finger—
The tip brushed Jiang Mi’s hand, and the Alpha stiffened immediately.
Just one finger.
It hooked around a few of her fingers and slipped into her palm.
Like a snake burrowing into her heart.
Jiang Mi tried to pull back, but Yan Wei tugged her hand back.
“Don’t move.”
The command, laced with rose-scented pheromones, crashed into her ears.
Jiang Mi froze.
She let that finger glide over the lines of her palm. As she lowered her head, she caught a soft curve on Yan Wei’s lips—and suddenly, she had an epiphany—
Turns out, taming Yan Wei only required sacrificing one hand.
No, wait… maybe Yan Wei was easier to please than she thought. It felt like she’d just discovered a secret shortcut.
Just then, Yan Wei softly said, “Say it again.”
Her command still hung in the air, Jiang Mi’s ears already flushed.
“Say what?”
“What you just said. But… change the way you address me.”
Jiang Mi blinked. “What do you mean?”
Before she could finish, she met Yan Wei’s meaningful gaze and felt her heart skip. Something felt off.
She hadn’t yet pieced it together when Yan Wei leaned in, the scent of brandy brushing her collarbone.
“Aren’t I your… elder?”
Jiang Mi: “??”
Wait—how did Yan Wei know what she said earlier?!
As it happened…
Surui’s new assistant often lurked in corners holding clothing racks. That girl had barely dared get within three meters of Yan Wei the past few days.
Today, she’d been behind the makeup artist, tidying up.
And when she later entered the dressing room to deliver something, she casually dropped the bomb:
“Miss Jiang said she was having dinner with an elder tonight. I overheard her telling Miss Shen earlier.”
The chandelier light suddenly felt heavy and syrupy.
“Jiang Mi.”
Alpha’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “…Hmm?”
Yan Wei’s fingers gently grazed her reddened hand. “What kind of ‘elder’ am I, exactly? Hmm?”
Jiang Mi: “That was just an excuse—”
Before she could finish, the warm command hit her again, as Yan Wei gently tilted her chin.
“Say it. Let me hear you.”
