A Flirtatious Beauty Alpha Provokes a Crazy Omega - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: The Best
Jiang Mi truly wasn’t afraid of haunted houses.
The cheap sound effects and plastic props were nothing more than a slightly noisy film set to her. She knew it was fake, so she just treated the whole thing like acting.
Because of that, even when she encountered something truly scary, her sense of fear would be much less.
Before entering the haunted house, she asked Yan Wei if she was scared.
Yan Wei neither confirmed nor denied it—her expression remained neutral, giving nothing away.
Jiang Mi thought she simply didn’t want to refuse her. “If you don’t really like it, we can go do something else.”
Yan Wei turned her face slightly at those words and looked at Jiang Mi for two seconds. “It’s okay. You’re here, aren’t you?”
Jiang Mi’s heart thumped wildly. Yan Wei had said that before too. It gave her an overwhelming sense of being relied upon, like Yan Wei genuinely needed her.
The corners of her lips curled up. “Then I’ll protect you.”
Yan Wei glanced at the smile on her face and responded in a soft voice, “Sure.”
They chose a medieval horror-themed setup, which was quite thoughtfully designed. The space was narrow and dim, with a realistic, rotting stench filling the air, accompanied by abrupt, piercing glass-scraping sounds.
Not long after they started, a pale, twisted figure suddenly shot out from a hidden compartment next to them—almost pressing up against Jiang Mi’s face!
Even Jiang Mi was startled by the sudden face and instinctively tensed up.
But at the same time, her reflexes kicked in before her thoughts. Almost instinctively, she reached back and pulled Yan Wei into her arms.
The next second, the ghost figure vanished, and the surrounding fell into a deeper darkness.
As if the ghost had never appeared at all.
The air turned stagnant, and only their slightly erratic breathing remained in the dark.
After about ten seconds of silence—
A voice came from the person in her arms. Low and muffled behind a mask, but somehow calm—different from her usual tone—with a trace of teasing.
“Jiang Mi,” Yan Wei spoke, her warm breath brushing the skin of Jiang Mi’s neck. “You…”
In the dark, her hand moved slightly. Her fingertips precisely traced along Jiang Mi’s neck.
“You’re sweating a lot.”
In this atmosphere, that gesture could be mistaken for either a caress… or preparation to slit her throat.
Jiang Mi’s heart clenched. She could feel Yan Wei’s fingers touching her damp skin and body heat.
But she hadn’t even noticed she was sweating.
Maybe it was cold sweat in that moment when the ghost appeared… But she wasn’t about to admit it.
And now, with her arms wrapped around Yan Wei, the two pressed close together—of course she was sweating. Her temples, the back of her neck, a thin layer of moisture clung to her skin. In the dim silence, every sense was heightened.
The warm breath slipping out beneath the mask landed near her collarbone. In the dark, all sensations were amplified: the rubbing of their clothes, their heartbeats transmitted through two layers of fabric, and even the intense thumping of their glands.
A heat that was hard to describe, mixed with the embarrassment of being “exposed,” surged from her toes to her chest.
She couldn’t admit she had been a little scared, right? That’d be embarrassing. She was the one who suggested this; she had even boasted she wasn’t afraid at all.
“It’s a little hot in here…”
To cover it up, she even turned her head slightly, as if trying to avoid Yan Wei’s breath so close to her.
In the darkness, she heard Yan Wei let out a faint, nearly inaudible chuckle. The soft vibration of her chest was clearly transmitted to Jiang Mi.
The laugh was brief and muffled in her throat—it made Jiang Mi’s heartbeat speed up.
Yan Wei didn’t pull away from the hug. Instead, she adjusted her posture so her chin rested on Jiang Mi’s shoulder.
“Yeah,” she said, as if she were truly feeling it. “It is a bit hot.”
Rather than agreeing, it sounded more like indulging her.
Yan Wei slowly, lightly pinched her upper arm with her fingernail—the one that was wrapped around her. It wasn’t painful, more like a gentle stroke.
Jiang Mi pressed her lips together and took a deep breath, but her lungs felt a bit oxygen-starved. She murmured, “Looks like that ghost is gone.”
Yan Wei: “Then let’s keep going.”
Jiang Mi gave a small hum but didn’t move to push her away. Two seconds passed. Neither of them moved. She said, “Actually, it’s okay to wait a little longer, right?”
There was no one else here anyway. And even if there were surveillance cameras, they were wearing hats and masks. It wouldn’t matter if they hugged for a bit longer, right?
It was rare to be able to act so freely in public.
“Mhm, it is.”
Jiang Mi quietly imagined pink bubbles filling her head.
Then, she heard Yan Wei say, “It’s just as well—I am a little scared.”
Jiang Mi: “…Really?”
You sure don’t look it.
“Mhm.”
They stood there in the darkness, hugging, counting each other’s heartbeats.
A few minutes later, they heard the voices of other visitors behind them. The ghost jumped out at them again.
This time, Jiang Mi locked eyes with it.
A really ugly ghost.
“Haa—”
The ghost bared its teeth at her.
Jiang Mi gave it a disapproving look, then subtly signaled: Come back later. Don’t you understand?
Ghost: “…?”
“Haa—”
The ghost tried again with a more twisted expression, determined to do its job.
Jiang Mi rolled her eyes and waved it off: “Oh my god, we’re so scared! Please go away! Ah, so scary, so scary!”
Ghost: “……”
What kind of performance is this? Are you mocking me just to flirt? That acting wouldn’t scare a toddler!
And this is a haunted house! Not a dog house! Not a place for you two to act lovey-dovey! Don’t you have a bed at home?! Huh?!
The ghost’s eyes lost all soul. With a final baring of teeth, it retreated. Soon, screams of real terror echoed from behind—it had finally found its true audience.
Time ticked by.
Jiang Mi finally let go of Yan Wei. Just then, they heard voices ahead again. She wasn’t sure if they were real “visitors.”
Accompanied by footsteps and chatter, a pale green light drew near and happened to illuminate Yan Wei’s face.
That face—there was no trace of fear.
Only eyes that glowed brightly under the eerie light, with slightly raised corners filled with undisguised hunting-like interest and amusement, staring straight at her.
Jiang Mi: “…”
You said you were scared?
Her gaze landed on Yan Wei’s stunningly beautiful face. That obvious, intense gaze was more threatening than any ghost.
Jiang Mi suddenly felt nervous. She didn’t even know exactly why.
Then came the delayed wave of embarrassment.
She should’ve kept her mouth shut—why did she make it look like she was the one more afraid?
The green light soon passed, and darkness returned.
“Uh… should we go?” Jiang Mi looked into the distance. There were surely more “surprises” waiting ahead.
“Slow down,” Yan Wei’s voice rang out clearly in the dark. “Isn’t it still dark?”
As she finished speaking, her warm, dry fingers clasped Jiang Mi’s wrist, right over her pulse.
Jiang Mi said, “Don’t worry. I’m holding your hand.”
She knew now that Yan Wei wasn’t scared at all.
This was more of a silent, mutual game between them. And honestly… it felt good.
She smiled under her mask, the curve of her lips growing wider.
Now she really was hot.
Holding Yan Wei’s hand felt like fire.
She slowed her pace and felt Yan Wei’s fingers pause for just a moment—then allowed herself to be led.
In less than half an hour, they had “challenged” every ghost and completed the haunted house route.
They stepped out the back door into the regular chaos of the amusement park.
Children’s screams mixed with cheerful music, and the sweet scent of popcorn replaced the haunted house’s damp rot.
Their hands were still clasped.
Under the sunlight, surrounded by people, there was a new kind of tension.
Jiang Mi hesitated and tried to let go, but the next second, Yan Wei gripped her tightly. Yan Wei turned and looked at her. “What’s wrong?”
Jiang Mi thought about saying she was afraid of being photographed, but changed her mind. “Nothing.”
Yan Wei hadn’t said anything—if she pointed it out, it would just ruin the mood. Yan Wei was careful like that. She surely considered this already. The more she thought about it, the more butterflies filled her heart.
The sun didn’t feel too hot anymore. The people around weren’t as noisy. Even the grumpy aunt who bumped into her seemed friendlier now.
Just then, a few girls rushed out of the haunted house, dramatically clutching their chests. One of them was so weak in the knees she had to be supported.
“That hanging ghost scared me to death!”
“Yeah, yeah! And that coffin! The lid opened by itself!”
Jiang Mi’s gaze left Yan Wei’s face and landed on the girls. After hearing them, she turned back to look at Yan Wei again.
By now, she was used to locking eyes with Yan Wei every time she looked over.
Jiang Mi glanced around, then leaned over and whispered, “You really didn’t seem scared at all.”
“Maybe…” Yan Wei looked at her. “I just really needed you.”
Jiang Mi’s heart skipped a beat.
That sentence was like a sugar-coated missile, hitting the softest part of her heart in an instant.
It was nearly noon. The sun was blinding. The noise was loud. But all her senses were focused entirely on this person before her.
The possessiveness in Yan Wei’s eyes was more intense than anything they had faced in the haunted house.
“Jiejie.”
“Mhm?”
Jiang Mi asked with genuine curiosity, “Have you been in love before?”
“Why?”
“You seem like someone who’s had a lot of experience…”
Yan Wei looked up. The light was harsh, forcing her to lower her head again. “What about you?”
“Me?”
“You seem like it too.”
Jiang Mi froze. “I really haven’t!”
She hurried to defend herself.
“Oh? Not even liked anyone?”
Yan Wei’s voice trailed off, her tone unreadable.
A few seconds of silence stretched long.
Yan Wei studied Jiang Mi’s expression and noticed a hint of hesitation. Her gaze darkened as she heard Jiang Mi explain—
“No, no… not someone I liked.”
“?”
The air seemed to freeze.
Jiang Mi saw the shift in Yan Wei’s face and instantly regretted bringing it up. She was just reminiscing, and it popped into her head. She didn’t want to hide it either.
“It was just after I debuted. I chatted with a senior for a few days.”
Chatted for a few days?
Jiang Mi had been just twenty-one or twenty-two. A senior in the industry had been kind to her. After going through so many hardships with Zhao Jia, encountering someone warm made her mistake it for something more?
After a few days, the senior confessed. Jiang Mi told Zhao Jia, who advised her to think about it for a few days.
But only two hours later—she had already decided to reject her.
It wasn’t until she met Yan Wei…
That she realized liking someone doesn’t require thinking.
“I was still young—well, not that young—” Jiang Mi saw Yan Wei’s eyes darken, and she quickly sped up. “I mean, I wasn’t mature yet. But I didn’t like her. Really. I didn’t.”
“So you liked her because she was good to you?”
“No! I didn’t like her, really.” Jiang Mi sensed something was off. “I’ve only liked you. Ever.”
“Why did you think she was good?”
Yan Wei didn’t show much reaction, but her voice had lost its warmth.
Jiang Mi grew quiet, nervously tightening her grip on Yan Wei’s wrist. “She wasn’t that great… not as great as you.”
Yan Wei didn’t say anything else. But she also didn’t offer any reassurance.
Jiang Mi stepped closer, lightly rubbing the back of Yan Wei’s hand with her thumb. “You’re the best.”
“What if someone better than me showed up…” Yan Wei flipped her hand and gripped Jiang Mi’s fingers tightly.
“Impossible.” Jiang Mi pulled them even closer.
“No one could ever be better than you.”
In my heart, you’re the best.
You’ll always be the best.
Jiang Mi gently hugged Yan Wei, in the middle of the noisy crowd under the blazing sun, allowing herself to say what was in her heart:
“Yan Wei, you don’t even know how much I like you.”
