Chapter 1: The Fake Daughter in a Wealthy Family (I)
The first time I met her was at a banquet. At that time, I wondered how someone could be so dazzling that I couldn’t take my eyes off her—
“Yue Lingqing, can you just have some shame?!”
Yue Lingqing’s collar was grabbed, and her entire body was pressed against the rough tree trunk. She looked at the face inches away and curled her lips in provocation. “Shen Ke, your girlfriend came onto me willingly. The person you should be scolding is your girlfriend, not barking at me here.”
The fingers Shen Ke used to clutch Yue Lingqing’s collar were white with effort. She practically ground out the words: “Yue Lingqing, dare you say you didn’t hint at my girlfriend?!”
Yue Lingqing lightly tsk-ed, her eyes lifting with a disdainful expression: “A light touch on her face is a hint? Then I’ve hinted at too many people.” With that, Yue Lingqing grabbed Shen Ke’s arm, intending to shake her off. But as soon as she touched her, Shen Ke recoiled as if shocked, abruptly releasing her.
Stepping back a few paces, Shen Ke’s eyes blazed with anger. She slapped the spot Yue Lingqing had touched with a look of revulsion: “Don’t touch me! You’re disgusting!”
Yue Lingqing’s gaze darkened. She slowly straightened her collar, looked up at Shen Ke, and let out a cold laugh: “Playing innocent. And by the way, keep an eye on your girlfriend. Don’t let her wag her tail and come sniffing around me like a dog. Only a vulgar idiot with poor taste like you would even look at someone like that.”
Shen Ke’s face turned beet red from Yue Lingqing’s words. Furious, she swung her fist straight at Yue Lingqing’s face. However, Yue Lingqing extended her hand and firmly enveloped Shen Ke’s fist.
Shen Ke’s cat-like eyes were wide and round. She tried to pull her hand back but found she couldn’t break free from Yue Lingqing’s grip.
Yue Lingqing grasped the fist, gave a forceful swing, and flung Shen Ke to the side. Because it happened too suddenly, Shen Ke lost her balance and landed hard on her backside.
Bracing her hands on the ground, Shen Ke looked up at Yue Lingqing with red-rimmed eyes. Her black, bright pupils shimmered with tears, making her look innocent and pitiful, but only on the surface.
Yue Lingqing’s fingers, hanging by her side, twitched slightly. The next moment, Shen Ke’s resentful cursing was heard: “Yue Lingqing! You truly are disgusting!”
Yue Lingqing paused, looking down at the slightly dishevelled Shen Ke. She smiled coldly: “Idiot. You deserve to be cheated on.” With that, she brushed past Shen Ke and walked away.
It took Shen Ke a few seconds to react. She was shaking with fury. Hastily standing up, she only managed to catch sight of Yue Lingqing’s receding back.
Shen Ke bit her lower lip and kicked the nearby tree trunk: “Yue Lingqing, you just wait! I’m going to find someone to teach you a lesson. How dare a bastard child be so arrogant!” However, the trunk was too hard. The sudden impact twisted Shen Ke’s face in pain. She pointed at the tree and swore, “Damn it, I hate you too!”
As Shen Ke was cursing, she suddenly heard a slight sound of a branch cracking near her ear. Shen Ke frowned, turning her head to shout in the direction of the sound: “Who’s there!” After a few seconds, there was no reply.
Shen Ke clenched her fist and walked forward. “I’m going to see who dares to eavesdrop!” she growled fiercely, but Shen Ke looked too innocent to be intimidating.
Walking towards the source of the sound, Shen Ke’s eyes narrowed. She saw a corner of a light blue school uniform hidden behind the tree.
Shen Ke hehe-ed twice. She took two big steps, then strode across and directly circled the tree, shouting loudly: “You heard everything, didn’t you!”
Still receiving no answer, Shen Ke looked closely. Once she clearly saw the person, her frown relaxed, and she called out playfully: “Feng Jian?”
The person was wearing a faded, washed-out school uniform. The edges of her canvas shoes were peeling off. Black-rimmed glasses covered most of her face, and her bangs were so long they almost obscured her eyes. She was currently looking down, her pale, slender fingers tightly clutching a bag of bread.
The only reaction when her name was called was a slight tremor; she made no other movement.
Shen Ke reached out and wrapped her arm around Feng Jian’s neck. She was half a head shorter than the other girl, so when she held Feng Jian, her entire body leaned in, pressing tightly against Feng Jian’s side.
Shen Ke smiled, her beautiful cat eyes half-closed, looking clever and sly. She opened her mouth and spoke the nickname everyone used for Feng Jian: “Little Mute, I remember you and Yue Lingqing are friends. You heard it, right? About me planning to find someone to teach her a lesson.”
Feng Jian pursed her lips, neither nodding nor shaking her head. She just stood there woodenly, her body tense as a pulled string.
Shen Ke tsk-ed and cut to the chase. Releasing Feng Jian, she said bluntly: “Forget it. You’re working for me from now on. I want—”
“Okay.”
Shen Ke frowned, looking suspiciously at Feng Jian. “Did you just speak?”
Feng Jian lowered her head even further. Her ears, hidden by her hair, were bright red, though no one noticed.
Shen Ke rolled her eyes and continued: “You must do whatever I ask you to do.”
“Only if you’re under my nose every day can I make sure you don’t rat me out.”
Shen Ke stared at Feng Jian, her manner quite arrogant: “Did you hear me?”
One second, two seconds, three seconds…
Shen Ke said again: “I asked if you heard me!” She spoke as if it were obvious, giving Feng Jian no other option.
Feng Jian slightly lifted her eyes, her gaze fixing on Shen Ke’s face through the gaps in her bangs.
Shen Ke had thick, long eyelashes, making her upper eyelid look like it had a beautiful eyeliner tracing the curve of her slightly upturned eye tail. Her overall eye shape was gorgeous.
Her lips were full and rosy, her nose small and delicate, and her dark, curly hair was tied into two strands on the left and right, hanging over her chest. Now, she was tilting her head back, letting out a cold snort from her nostrils, looking both pampered and arrogant. “If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as a default. Pick me up at the school gate tomorrow morning.”
Shen Ke finished speaking and held out her hand: “Give me your phone.” The school didn’t require phones to be handed in, so Shen Ke felt entitled to make this demand.
Feng Jian looked at the pale palm extended toward her. After a moment of hesitation, she took a vintage, basic feature phone out of her uniform pocket.
Shen Ke glanced at the worn button phone, curling her lip in distaste: “Are you that poor? Can’t even afford a proper phone? This looks so dirty.” Despite saying that, Shen Ke snatched the old phone from Feng Jian and clumsily poked at the buttons, inputting her number.
She then handed the phone back to Feng Jian: “Here.” Seeing Feng Jian take it, Shen Ke huffed and warned again: “Remember what I said, or you’ll regret it.” With that, she walked away without another word.
Feng Jian watched Shen Ke’s back, tightly clutching the phone that still held Shen Ke’s warmth. She slowly squatted down against the tree trunk, burying her face in her knees.
So cute…
She had witnessed the entire argument between Shen Ke and Yue Lingqing, and also saw Shen Ke take her anger out on the tree.
So cute…
Shen Ke was utterly furious. Just ten minutes ago, she had broken up with her girlfriend. Not only did the girl cheat, but she also told her best friend behind her back that Shen Ke was a simple-minded sugar daddy.
It was infuriating! Shen Ke harshly bit her lip, thought about it, and couldn’t resist sneaking into the restroom to cry secretly.
She just felt so wronged. All she wanted was to be nice to her partner. Why did they have to call her a simple-minded sugar daddy?
Sitting on the toilet, Shen Ke was wiping away her tears when the restroom door suddenly burst open.
Shen Ke looked up in shock, her eyes wide and round, tears still clinging to her lashes. Her pink lips were slightly parted, like a frightened kitten.
The next second, the stall door was violently slammed shut with a bang.
Shen Ke sniffled and called out: “Little Mute, get in here.” Her voice was thick with sobs, sounding sticky and soft.
After a wait, there was no reaction from outside the door. Shen Ke saw a pair of standing feet through the gap at the bottom of the door, knowing Feng Jian hadn’t left. She called out again: “Did you hear me? I order you to come in.” She had forgotten to lock the door! Thank goodness it was Feng Jian, the little mute.
This time, the stall door slowly opened, and Feng Jian’s tall, slender figure appeared in the small cubicle.
Shen Ke was sitting on the toilet, her legs crossed. The school uniform had options for long pants or a knee-length skirt, and Shen Ke was wearing the skirt. Her crossed legs exposed her beautiful calves, and below that, her ankles were encased in white short socks.
Feng Jian kept her head down, her gaze fixed on the clean white floor tiles. She had never been alone with Shen Ke in such a confined space, and her heart began to race uncontrollably.
“Feng Jian, come here,” Shen Ke whispered.
Feng Jian slowly walked to Shen Ke’s feet, keeping her head lowered. She happened to meet Shen Ke’s big, cat-like eyes looking up at her. Shen Ke’s face was flushed pink from crying.
So cute…
Shen Ke didn’t speak, just hooked her finger. Feng Jian inexplicably understood her meaning. She slowly bent down and moved closer to Shen Ke, her body growing tenser. The next second, an arm wrapped around the back of her neck, and she was pulled down completely. Feng Jian’s pupils contracted sharply.
In that instant, the distance between her and Shen Ke was less than half a palm’s width. Any closer and their breaths would mingle, or rather… they would kiss.
Shen Ke gave a cold laugh, turned her head, and whispered into Feng Jian’s ear: “You saw it just now, right?”
Feng Jian nodded softly.
Shen Ke frowned and threatened: “You cannot tell anyone, or I’ll make sure you can’t survive in this school.” Her reputation was paramount; no one could know she was a crybaby!
Warm breath swirled around her ear. Feng Jian braced her hands on the toilet lid beside Shen Ke’s thighs, her entire body completely enveloping Shen Ke. In front of her was Shen Ke’s pale neck and shoulder. Feng Jian said softly: “I won’t tell.”
Shen Ke snorted. She pulled Feng Jian away slightly, then abruptly yanked off the black-rimmed glasses that covered half of Feng Jian’s face. “You cry for me. I need to take a picture of you crying.” Shen Ke’s logic was simple: Feng Jian saw her cry, so she had to see Feng Jian cry too.
While speaking, Shen Ke roughly pulled Feng Jian’s bangs up, revealing Feng Jian’s entire face.
Shen Ke froze, her gaze lingering on Feng Jian’s face. It wasn’t that Feng Jian was unattractive; she was too beautiful.
Her long, straight eyelashes trembled slightly, and her dark pupils were set in slim eye sockets, showing a hint of the lower white part of her eyes. Her eye tails turned up, her nose was straight, and a tiny black mole dropped below her left eye.
A very sharp and fierce look.
And those eyebrows and eyes… they looked too much like her family.
Feng Jian lifted her thin eyelids, locking her gaze on Shen Ke. In that moment, Shen Ke’s heart tightened, feeling as if she was about to be devoured.
But the next second, Shen Ke dismissed the feeling, grumbling for Feng Jian to cry for her.
Feng Jian pursed her lips. She didn’t dare look at Shen Ke for long. She lowered her lashes, avoiding Shen Ke’s gaze.
“Hurry up and cry for me, did you hear? Three minutes have passed. Little Mute, cry for me now, or I’ll hit you.”
Shen Ke’s voice was low, sounding delicate, almost like whining.
Feng Jian’s eyelashes fluttered and blinked gently. A single tear rolled down the corner of her eye and dripped onto Shen Ke’s lip.
Shen Ke subconsciously pursed her lips. The tear instantly spread, dampening her pretty lip line.
Seeing this, Feng Jian’s fingers clenched sharply, her heart pounding like a drum.
Shen Ke tasted the salty moisture but ignored it. She quickly took out her phone and snapped a close-up photo of Feng Jian’s face. After taking it, Shen Ke looked down, frowned, and found a few more angles she thought were the “ugliest,” shoving the camera up close to Feng Jian.
However, after several continuous shots, none of them were the ugly photos she wanted. Instead, they were surprisingly beautiful.
Shen Ke felt a little angry. How can someone not take an ugly photo!
She pulled Feng Jian’s bangs back down, put the glasses back on her, and finally released Feng Jian. She stood up and let out a cold huff. Mindful of being in the restroom, she spoke very quietly: “I’ve already taken a lot of ugly photos of you! If I hear about me crying in the restroom from anyone else, you’re finished!” She then walked past Feng Jian and left the restroom.
Feng Jian, standing silently in place, waited for a moment, then touched her face. Did she… cry very ugly just now?
