A Love Letter Written to You - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
“Our Life: Friends Edition” Production Office.
“Xiao Su, update us on your progress coordinating with Teacher Leng Xingming.”
Director Pan was calling on team members one by one. He was the chief director of the show Our Life, which had already aired three seasons, each more popular than the last. He was determined to keep the fourth season’s buzz and traffic sky-high—there was no room for mistakes.
The young woman he called on stood up hesitantly, notebook in hand, her expression pained.
“They didn’t give me a definite answer yesterday… The response from their side is that we should try persuading Teacher Leng Ying again.”
Director Pan considered this. “So that means Leng Ying declined.”
Xiao Su looked embarrassed. “Uh…”
It was hard for her to say anything. This assignment was directly handed to her by Director Pan. He’d said he’d already discussed it with Leng Xingming, who seemed open to letting his daughter join the variety show to help her unwind. Xiao Su just needed to follow up and finalize the arrangements.
But when she followed up yesterday, it turned out not to be the case.
She realized she’d been set up. But… Xiao Su sneaked a glance at Director Pan’s thunderous expression and thought, Looks like even he didn’t see this coming!
Indeed, Director Pan hadn’t expected it.
His earlier conversations with Leng Xingming had gone smoothly. The show was hot enough—he didn’t imagine he’d get stood up like this.
Pan lowered his head in thought. Xiao Su stood frozen in place, not daring to sit, afraid she’d become a scapegoat.
“Sit down.” After a few minutes, Pan noticed she was still standing and gestured for her to take her seat. She wasn’t the key player in this unexpected setback—she was just the messenger. That much he could distinguish.
Besides…
He suddenly recalled some industry rumors.
Leng Ying’s contract wasn’t under Hechu Entertainment, the company where her parents had shares. She had set up her own studio. Everyone in the industry knew this. So did Director Pan, but he hadn’t paid much attention before. Now, Xiao Su’s words reminded him:
Who says Leng Xingming and Leng Ying are on the same side?
He wasn’t even on the same side as Leng Xingming… That man had subtly pushed for a newcomer from Hechu Entertainment to join the show, playing a close friend opposite Leng Ying. The newcomer had zero public presence, but Leng Xingming was unusually enthusiastic. The reason?
Ren Meng was also coming on Our Life: Friends Edition.
Leng Ying plus Ren Meng—those two alone would generate enough drama and buzz to make up for the newcomer’s lack of popularity.
His own motives weren’t pure, and neither were Leng Xingming’s.
But this was showbiz—whoever grabs the spotlight, wins.
Pan didn’t think he was doing anything wrong.
It seemed unlikely that Leng Ying would join through her father’s channel. So what about approaching her studio directly? While their public email didn’t accept variety show offers, Pan had been in the industry for years. He had connections—he could get to her manager.
The only thing he wasn’t sure about was this: if he contacted Leng Ying directly, the odds she’d accept were practically zero.
While the boss remained silent, Xiao Su, now seated, kept her head down and discreetly whipped out her phone to vent her frustrations in a private group chat.
A notification popped up at the top of her screen.
She swiped to clear it—
Wait!
Xiao Su jumped up from her seat!
Pan looked over. “?”
He hadn’t even said anything yet.
Xiao Su said excitedly, “Boss, Leng Ying is trending on Weibo!”
…
@XiaoyuEntertainmentBuzz:
#LengYingAtTheAirportWithCloseFriend… [Video]
Pan clicked into the top trending post, skipping the text and heading straight for the video.
The video was low-res—it showed Leng Ying holding flowers and waiting at the airport. A tide of passengers surged out of the arrival gate.
Someone came running toward her.
The camera caught the moment they embraced.
Then the video ended.
He dragged the progress bar back and watched it again.
The clip really stopped at the exact moment Leng Ying and that other woman hugged.
Not a second more.
He couldn’t make out the woman’s face—just her eye-catching blonde hair.
Pan’s instincts kicked in. Something was off. “Where’s Ren Meng’s travel itinerary?”
Xiao Xuan, who was in charge of Ren Meng’s coordination, raised her hand. “She arrived back in Haicheng yesterday. Same day.”
Pan watched the video a third time, carefully analyzing the woman who ran to Leng Ying. She definitely had striking blonde hair.
And Ren Meng… didn’t.
Xiao Su chimed in, “Ren Meng’s not blonde. And that flight came directly from overseas. Leng Ying once mentioned in an interview that she has a friend living abroad—could that be the person in the video?”
Pan skimmed through the comments under the post. Even though it had only been a few minutes, the replies were already in chaos. There were solo stans of Leng Ying, CP fans, and Ren Meng’s fans stirring the pot.
He exited XiaoyuEntertainmentBuzz’s page and fell silent for a moment. “That’s very likely.”
He didn’t hesitate any longer and made a decision on the spot. “We still need to go after Leng Ying for the show.” He paused on a screenshot from the video. “And we should try to bring her friend in too!”
Xiao Su looked pained. “Boss, that’s an impossible mission…”
Pan replied calmly, “I’ll talk to them.”
“Okay, boss. No problem, boss!” Xiao Su immediately changed her tune. “All in full support of your decisions!”
“…Don’t flatter me.” Pan adjusted his expression. “I have a good feeling. If we get them, the show will be a massive hit. Xiao Su, send me everything you’ve prepped so far.”
This was just too good.
If they failed to recruit Leng Ying alone, maybe bringing in her friend would change the game.
Even though the video was blurry, you could still tell from her features—she was a real beauty.
Pan didn’t waste any more time. He started tapping into his network to make contact—because if Leng Ying didn’t join the show via her father, then he wasn’t obligated to cast Hechu Entertainment’s rookie either.
…
At that very moment—
Leng Ying and the mysterious friend that Pan was dying to recruit… were still fast asleep.
Meanwhile, her manager, Sister Qun, was spinning in circles with worry.
Why isn’t Leng Ying answering her phone?!
