A Love Letter Written to You - Chapter 12
Chapter 12
“……” Xiao Ye, who had been called into the office by Manager Qun in the midst of the chaos, looked completely innocent. “I already tried to stop Ying-jie… She originally wanted to go down early and wait!”
“I really tried to talk her out of it!!” Xiao Ye was close to tears. “Ying-jie only went down for ten minutes, how could we have known she’d be caught on camera…”
Damn paparazzi! Don’t let me catch you!
Xiao Ye wore the face of utter agony.
Manager Qun: “……”
She took a deep breath. “It was a paparazzo who was tailing Ren Meng.”
She had already found out the details. “While staking out Ren Meng, the paparazzo happened to run into Leng Ying and recognized her immediately.”
Xiao Ye thought for a moment. “Should we contact them and ask them to delete the video?”
Manager Qun shook her head. “Trying to delete something that’s already posted will only make things worse. I just bought the rest of the footage from them.”
“What? There’s more footage?!” Xiao Ye was shocked.
“……He followed your car and filmed it going into the neighborhood,” Manager Qun said, then gave Xiao Ye a long look. “Xiao Ye… Should we enroll you in an anti-surveillance training class?”
“I wouldn’t mind,” Xiao Ye nodded sincerely. “As long as the company is willing to invest in my growth.”
The implication: she wanted company-funded training.
Manager Qun: “……Sure. I’ll consider it.”
Another call went unanswered. Manager Qun couldn’t wait any longer. She grabbed her phone and car keys. “I’m going to check on Leng Ying at her place. You… stay at the office.”
She continued trying to call Leng Ying as she hurried out the door.
Strange… At this time, she should be awake already.
…
Manager Qun sped all the way to her destination.
She marched upstairs and started pounding on Leng Ying’s door.
She knocked persistently for a full three minutes.
Thankfully, it was a private residence—otherwise, she’d have been reported for disturbing the peace.
Leng Ying’s phone was on silent, so she didn’t hear the calls. But Manager Qun’s banging was loud—loud enough to pierce through the thick door and reach the ears of Leng Ying, still fast asleep in bed.
She was awakened by the noise.
So was Ji Yu.
The two of them, eyes still foggy from sleep, looked at each other for a moment. The knocking continued.
Ji Yu hesitated. “……Is someone knocking?”
Leng Ying came to her senses. “Only one person would knock like that—Manager Qun.”
She got up. “She must have something urgent.”
Urgent?
While Leng Ying went to open the door, Ji Yu picked up her phone from the bed and opened her domestic social media apps.
“Ancestor! You’ve finally shown yourself!”
A vaguely familiar woman’s voice echoed toward Ji Yu—it must be Leng Ying’s manager.
Ji Yu scrolled to the trending Weibo list—already pushed down more than ten spots by now—and fell into silence.
“Manager Qun?” Leng Ying hadn’t checked her phone yet and was still puzzled. “What’s going on?”
Manager Qun handed her the phone. “You were caught on camera yesterday while picking someone up at the airport.”
As Leng Ying read the Weibo post, Manager Qun continued her rapid-fire update: “I bought the rest of the video from Xiaoyu—they also caught footage of you two returning to your neighborhood. By the way…” she suddenly remembered to ask, “Where’s your friend? She stayed over last night, right?”
“……Mm.” Leng Ying cleared her throat lightly. “My phone was on silent.”
“……” Manager Qun stared at her for a long moment, then sighed. “Forget it. You don’t usually sleep well. It’s rare for you to rest so long—silent mode isn’t a big deal.” Then her tone turned sharp again. “If it weren’t for the paparazzi posting a video, I wouldn’t have disturbed you! Is your friend awake? No time like the present—let’s meet her.”
Leng Ying turned to look toward the bedroom.
Inside—
Now that she understood the situation through social media, Ji Yu had quickly taken advantage of the moment to do the most basic grooming and styling. Her previously wild, sleep-tousled golden hair was now tied up neatly in a ponytail. She took a deep breath and decisively opened the door, declaring loudly:
“Hello! I’m Ji Yu, Leng Ying’s absolute best friend.”
“Nice to meet you, nice to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you.” Manager Qun looked her up and down with interest. “I’m Sheng Jiaqun—just call me Sister Qun, like Leng Ying does. You two are around the same age, right?”
Ji Yu blinked, then said, “Mm… I’m two years younger than Ying Ying.”
“Oh.” Sister Qun nodded thoughtfully. Couldn’t really tell. She turned to Leng Ying. “The fans are already fighting like crazy. It’d be best to post something to clarify things.” Out of courtesy for Ji Yu, she didn’t spell things out—but Leng Ying clearly understood.
“Mm, I should clarify.”
Sensing Leng Ying’s gaze drifting her way, Ji Yu raised her hand and volunteered: “I can be in the video~”
“…I don’t want you in the video,” Leng Ying said. “Okay?”
Okay?
How could she possibly say no?
At least, Ji Yu didn’t have the strength to resist that kind of request.
She nodded dazedly. “Okay.”
Leng Ying smiled in satisfaction.
“Mm. Then I’ll post a clarification Weibo by myself.”
She went into the bedroom to grab her phone and start composing the post. Meanwhile, Sister Qun and Ji Yu had already started chatting. Sister Qun first asked about Ji Yu’s current situation, and after learning the basics, she said, “So are you planning to settle down in the country?”
Ji Yu nodded. “Yeah, I’m not planning to develop my career abroad. Any time I go overseas now, it’ll just be for short stays.”
“Are you on your own?”
“Of course not.” Ji Yu answered confidently. “That depends on what Ying Ying wants.”
How could she travel alone after reuniting?
Sister Qun: …Not a surprising answer.
She fell silent for a second, then asked, “Where are you planning to live in the future?”
Faced with Sister Qun’s barrage of questions, Ji Yu paused for a moment. The situation felt oddly familiar… Like she was being interrogated by a family elder of Leng Ying’s. She straightened up instinctively. “My family has property in Haicheng. But I came back in a hurry and haven’t had time to get the place in order.”
She added, “It’s been unoccupied for a while—needs some cleaning and airing out.”
Sister Qun nodded. Makes sense. So she didn’t plan to live long-term with Leng Ying just yet.
Having asked enough, she threw out one final question to wrap up: “Ying Ying said once you were back in the country, the three of us should have a meal together. When would be a good time?”
“Anytime! …I’m fine whenever—what matters is Sister’s schedule.”
Sister?
Sister Qun paused for a beat, then realized—
She was referring to Leng Ying.
This one seems really good
