A Love Letter Written to You - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Ji Yu was scheduled to report to the company the next day, so their nightly two-player game session was canceled.
She was not happy about it and tried her best to coax Leng Ying into playing anyway, but ultimately failed and had to retreat to bed in defeat.
Through the soft blanket, Leng Ying ruffled her hair. “You need to get up early tomorrow.”
“Do I?” Ji Yu wiggled closer, her moist black eyes peeking out. “I checked the Gaode Map—our home is super close to the office. Just a ten-minute walk! No rush hour, it’s bliss.”
“It is close,” Leng Ying admitted with some surprise. She hadn’t even considered that when she bought the place—it really was a lucky coincidence.
Fate, perhaps.
“Still no games,” Leng Ying said firmly. “It’s your first day reporting in.”
“It’s our own company…” Ji Yu had already given up on the game. She snuggled up under the warm covers and whispered to Leng Ying, “They arranged a vice president position for me, said it’s to get familiar with domestic operations.”
“Will it be a lot of work?”
“I don’t care what they say,” Ji Yu said breezily. “Managing the group… even assuming I’ll inherit it, there are professional managers for that. Not my problem.”
She nodded to herself. “I just want to focus on design. Hmph. Once I meet with Old He tomorrow, I’m locking myself in the design room. No one’s dragging me into those useless meetings.”
Old He’s full name was He Ruixiang, the head of the group’s China division.
Leng Ying chuckled and turned off the bedroom light. “Alright, looking forward to our President Ji’s performance tomorrow.”
…
The next day.
Ji Yu put on a crisply ironed suit—specifically the one Leng Ying had chosen for her.
She spread her arms and spun in front of Leng Ying like a peacock showing off.
“Looks great,” Leng Ying said, adjusting one of her earrings. “The studs I gave you are a bit plain—want to change them?”
The outfit was already on anyway.
Ji Yu shook her head. “Nope. They’re plain…” She pulled out an ear cuff from the jewelry box and clipped it on without a mirror. “Not plain anymore, right?”
Leng Ying was impressed. “Mm.”
Ji Yu beamed. “Trust my fashion sense! Besides, these are from you—I don’t want to take them off~”
“What if I give you another pair?” Leng Ying teased.
“I’ll switch them out, of course!” Ji Yu said righteously. “The more gifts from you, the more I can rotate!”
Leng Ying smiled. She checked the time. “You should head out.”
Ji Yu gave her a salute. “Wait for me to come home!”
…
Leng Ying’s place really did have a perfect location.
Ji Yu became even more unwilling to move to Jingming Pavilion.
That place had been ready for a while—staff and supplies all arranged—but she’d been dragging her feet.
…She’d delay it for as long as possible.
Ji Yu decided to play turtle—unless Leng Ying brought it up first, she wasn’t going to say anything about moving out.
Hopefully, she could delay it until the end of time.
The early spring wind was chilly. Ji Yu arrived at the group’s office building and looked up.
Still quite impressive.
Her mother had met her father here years ago—love at first sight while her mom was on a business trip in China.
Comparing the building to black-and-white photos from 20-30 years ago, it had clearly been renovated and expanded with time—now even more grand.
She’d already made arrangements with He Ruixiang over WeChat to meet directly in his office today—no need to send someone down to greet her. Too flashy.
Of course, Ji Yu could say that—but He Ruixiang couldn’t just do nothing.
Reading between the lines, he figured she didn’t want a big scene, so he sent his most reliable assistant to wait in the lobby, ensuring he’d be notified the moment she arrived and showing proper respect for the company’s future heir.
The assistant, following He Ruixiang’s orders, stood carefully at the entrance.
“President Ji!” He spotted her—he had seen photos from He Ruixiang—and quickly approached. “I’m Secretary Xiao Zhe, you can just call me Zhe. He Zong is waiting upstairs.”
Ji Yu nodded. “Uncle He mentioned you.”
Secretary Xiao Zhe cracked a mild joke, “So I’ve already reached the ears of the heavens? What an honor.”
Ji Yu caught the joke and replied, “I’m not quite a deity yet.”
“…Your Chinese is excellent,” Secretary Zhe said, wiping a bead of cold sweat internally.
Ji Yu liked hearing that.
With great interest but calm tone, she replied, “Yes, I have a friend from China.”
Secretary Zhe understood and gave a polite compliment: “You two must be very close.”
“We’re soulmates,” Ji Yu said. “The kind you only get one of in a lifetime.”
If things couldn’t move forward, she absolutely couldn’t lose that status.
Of course…
If they did move forward, she’d still hold that place.
Secretary Zhe kept a calm face, but inside, he thought Ji Yu’s Chinese wasn’t just good—it was too good.
—That sounded like she was describing a married couple!
The short walk to the elevator felt quite long.
Just as Secretary Zhe was about to press the elevator button, Ji Yu stopped him. “Let’s just take the regular elevator.”
“That one doesn’t go to Mr. He’s floor.”
“We can transfer later.” Ji Yu smiled. “It’s my first day—I shouldn’t be so out of touch with the people, right? Let’s go.”
“…Alright.”
Didn’t seem like her Chinese was poor at all, then.
Secretary Zhe went along and pressed the other elevator button.
At this hour, it wasn’t too crowded. The company provided breakfast, and most people came early. Few arrived right on time like Ji Yu. Right now, it was just the two of them waiting.
The elevator opened.
There were two women inside, one standing in front of the other. The one in front recognized Secretary Zhe and greeted him politely, her curious gaze skimming quickly over Ji Yu. The woman behind her didn’t speak. Their eyes met briefly as acknowledgment, and she walked straight out.
Because of that, the woman in front didn’t get a chance to talk more and just gave a simple farewell.
Once they left, Ji Yu and Secretary Zhe stepped into the elevator and pressed the top floor.
“Who were they just now?” Ji Yu asked.
