A Love Letter Written to You - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Ji Yu woke up in the middle of the night, still groggy.
The honey water was already cold.
Leng Ying had fallen asleep soundly on the carpet, curled up in a blanket.
Ji Yu: “……?”
She lowered her head and sniffed herself—she still smelled like alcohol.
It was 4 a.m.
Not too early, not too late… time for a quick shower.
She got up from the sofa and carefully moved Leng Ying—lifting her from the carpet onto the sofa.
The notebook that had fallen nearby was placed on the small round side table.
Worried the sound of running water would disturb Leng Ying, Ji Yu made it quick—washing off the scent of alcohol and changing into pajamas. When she came out:
Leng Ying was still asleep.
Ji Yu, now warm and clean, moved closer. The scent of oranges wafted from her skin. Half-awake, Leng Ying sniffed and slowly opened her eyes to look at her.
Ji Yu: “!”
Leng Ying, still groggy, reached out and tugged at her. “…Sleep?”
“Sleep.” Ji Yu’s heart rippled. Half coaxed, half willing, she slipped in beside her.
From this day forward, this giant double sofa would be her new favorite.
Leng Ying really had picked the perfect sofa!
When sleeping on a big bed, even sharing a pillow, there was always some distance.
Not too close, not too far.
But a sofa—was different.
She sank into a dream full of flowers in her arms.
…
When she woke again, the sun was already high.
Fresh from a dream full of floral scents, she now caught the faint aroma of food.
Ji Yu jolted upright.
…She didn’t have any clock-in requirements for work, so being late didn’t matter—but where was Ying Ying?
She looked around and didn’t see her at first.
Then she turned toward the kitchen.
Seeing that familiar silhouette calmed her heart.
She’d woken up at just the right time.
Leng Ying brought out a bowl of noodles to the living room. “Any later and I was going to wake you.”
The clock on the wall ticked past 11 a.m.
“Last night’s sleep was amazing.”
Only in moments like last night could Ji Yu understand why He Ruofu loved to drink.
Leng Ying smiled. “Me too.”
!
Ying Ying too!
Ji Yu felt relieved. She emphasized, “I don’t drink often.”
“And I rarely get drunk.”
…Wasn’t that just her way of saying last night was special?
Leng Ying lowered her gaze and took a bite of noodles.
The hot broth grounded her.
She cleared her throat, “Sister Qun passed along a variety show script. It’s a show for pairs.”
Ji Yu: “Huh?”
She wasn’t quite sure what Leng Ying meant, but her heart started pounding uncontrollably.
“I just mean—” Leng Ying continued, “I don’t really want to go, but it’s a show where you can bring a partner.”
She looked at Ji Yu. “I think it wouldn’t be bad if we went together. What do you think?”
A wave of euphoria surged—then quickly ebbed. Ji Yu managed to stay calm: “But… you don’t really want to go.”
“Mm.”
Leng Ying admitted it honestly. But she added, “But the desire to go on the show with you, to let everyone know that we are the real friends, far outweighs my reluctance.”
She always noticed—always knew exactly what Ji Yu was hesitating about.
“I want to keep you to myself, but then no one would know I have such a wonderful friend.”
Leng Ying was willing to hand over every superlative she had about “good friend” and give them all to Ji Yu.
“So I thought, if you have time, and if you’re willing, we could go on the show together.”
Leng Ying even joked, “We’d get double the appearance fee—you’d get a cut too.”
Going on a show as friends.
Letting the world see us as we really are.
Letting people understand that “we” meant Leng Ying and Ji Yu together.
How could Ji Yu possibly say no?
She couldn’t say no—
—especially since she had so been hoping for this!
Joy lit up her eyes, and Ji Yu agreed without hesitation, “Okay.”
She had decided last night that she didn’t need to go on the show.
But—Leng Ying wanted to go with her!
And Ji Yu wanted to go with Leng Ying too!
She was so happy.
Leng Ying quietly observed her.
After she brought up the variety show, Ji Yu’s golden hair seemed to fluff up just a little more—radiating joy that matched her mood.
And that was more than enough.
This one seems really good
