A Man Who Had Everything Taken From Him By A Monster, Gleefully Violates A Young Girl's Corpse - Chapter 1
On top of a square rice cooker, a grumpy cat curls up, hiding its paws and legs under its belly.
It almost feels as if the cat, blending with the room’s decor, has turned into furniture itself, enduring the heavy passage of time as it dozes off.
The sound of the second hand ticking steadily, marking each second, rings out in the still room.
The analog clock showed 8:15 PM.
The man sitting at the table occasionally scratches his thick, unkempt beard and tangled hair while typing on the keyboard.
He’s wearing a camo-patterned hoodie, a mix of dark brown and moss green, paired with gray pants that have an alphabet logo on them.
“……”
Noticing the cat watching him from the sink, the man paused his movement.
He removed his fingers from the PC keyboard, confirmed the screen went dark, and then stood up from the table.
At that moment, the sound of a piano melody flowed in from the neighborhood.
Without paying it any attention, the man walked toward the bathroom.
On top of the washing machine, there was a mountain of jackets hanging on hangers, filling the entire view.
He pulls hangers from the clothesline, searching for the clothes he needs.
After a few seconds, he found a black jacket, took it off the hanger, and slipped his arms into it.
As his master was about to leave, the cat rubbed up to him, letting out a weak cry.
“I’m off now…”
The man stroked the cat’s nape as it lay on its side, squinting his eyes in contentment.
Turning on his heel, he took the flashlight from beside the receiver before stepping out the front door.
As he stepped outside, a lukewarm breeze brushed against his cheek, which felt strangely unpleasant, making him grimace.
The migratory birds, who had chosen the nearby coast as their wintering refuge and were busy building nests, had significantly decreased in number.
With spring approaching, the air after the rain was rich in humidity and warmth.
In the sky, sparsely scattered clouds drifted, while a bright red full moon glowed in the night.
The man on the ground switched on his flashlight and stepped into the darkness of the night, relying on the light.
After walking for a while, the smell of salt began to fill his nose.
As nightfall descended, he passed through the deserted residential area and eventually reached a road with traffic lights.
“………”
The man stopped in front of the red light.
While waiting, several cars passed by a few steps ahead, including long-haul trucks carrying chemical fuel and cars with businessmen returning from overtime at black companies.
Eventually, the signal changed from red to green, and after crossing the white-lined sidewalk, the man reached the railroad crossing.
The darkness beyond the raised barrier stretched endlessly, as if a mouth had opened to swallow everything.
“…Huh? What’s that?”
In the darkness ahead, he saw something flickering in the moonlight. It was undeniably suspicious.
Realizing something was wrong, the man hurried toward the breakwater beyond the crossing, seemingly propelled by urgency.
†† †† ††
As the man leaned forward from the concrete breakwater, something that could never exist in his life was squirming below.
Beyond the high tide, there something gigantic was towering above the clouds.
The entirety of it was so large that it could not be recognized at a glance.
The head, shrouded in darkness, was covered by dark-red clouds, occasionally emitting flashes like lightning.
The silhouette resembled that of a ghost.
It was neither a dinosaur nor a reptile.
Its skin, twisted and spiraling in multiple layers across its body, glowed red under the moonlight.
It bore no resemblance to any of the animals the man had seen in picture books as a child.
There were no eyeballs where the eyes should have been, and its face was too hideous and deformed to be called a face.
It was a strange entity, somewhere between a plant and an animal, and it moved toward land, its body writhing with swirling tentacles.
“I-I can’t believe it… It’s a monster. What is that…!!”
But the shock was short-lived.
In the next moment, it emitted light from within its shell, and countless tentacles glowed with a poisonous light, like jellyfish.
“T-This is bad…!!”
Feeling a sense of danger, the man crouched down against the breakwater wall.
Above him, the monster’s voice crashed down, drowning out everything else.
It was an indescribably terrifying scream.
In an instant, a light pierced his closed eyelids and bathed the surroundings, followed by a distant explosion.
The sound continued for a long time, eventually reaching the man’s side.
Over his trembling body, the monster’s cries pressed down even harder.
“…Ugh!!”
The man shook uncontrollably, desperately trying to hide his presence.
The horrifying roar gnawed at his sanity.
Wishing for the time to pass swiftly, the man’s consciousness soon faded.
–
The next time he opened his eyes, the monstrous figure had vanished from sight.
He stood up from the shadow of the breakwater and looked out at the sea.
The waves were surprisingly calm, and the usual scenery stretched out before him.
“W-was it a dream…?”
The hopes that slipped from his lips were immediately shattered when he turned around.
When the man turned to look at the land behind him, a vast scorched wasteland stretched out as far as he could see.
The residential area had been completely burned away, and the town beyond the crossing looked like a charred piece of toast.
“I-it really was… it can’t be…!!”
The monster’s attack was merciless, and the direction where the houses once stood had been reduced to ash.
Seeing the destruction, he felt his strength drain away and collapsed to his knees.
“…Damn it!!”
He slammed his fist into the hard ground, letting out choked sobs.
Thus, he was left alone on the coastal path, surrounded by the scorched wasteland.
While crushed by a sense of helplessness, tears flowed freely down his cheeks.
The scent of burning human flesh wafted through the wind, hitting his nostrils.
Overcome with nausea rising from deep within, the man vomited right there.
Amidst his sobbing and yellow vomit, the man raised his head and noticed something.
On the coastal path, where the breakwater continued, someone laid collapsed.
