A Misty Night, With A Crystal-Clear Moon - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: The Aftermath and the Secret
Mu Shaohui sat in a dark room, a cigarette dangling from his mouth. Through the pale moonlight, his isolated and disheartened profile was visible.
Mu Sheng walked in and softly said, “Young Master.”
He took a deep drag. “How is she? Is the wound serious?”
“She’s fine, but she lost a lot of bl00d. I hear she just needs to rest well.”
He stubbed out half the cigarette on the table. “Hmph! I see she has nothing but a pair of condescending eyes and a stubborn, unyielding heart!”
Mu Sheng knew this was Mu Shaohui’s obsession and refrained from commenting. “The Madam asked if you are coming over.”
He angrily kicked the table over, his eyes bulging as he roared, “Tell her to get out!”
Mu Sheng responded, “If the Young Master has no other orders, Mu Sheng will leave first.”
“Wait.” He took two quick, deep breaths, and his tone became much milder. “Did you find the person I asked you to look for?”
“Yes, I did. How does the Young Master plan to deal with this Uncle Fu?”
“Lock him up first. Starve him for two days, and then we’ll see if he talks.”
“Yes, but Uncle Fu doesn’t seem like he knows anything.”
“Hmph. He was Yu Tianqi’s confidant. Yu Tianqi is so cunning and sophisticated that he could even manage to arrange a good escape for himself; how could he truly leave his precious daughter to live a miserable life alone in this world? He must have left some fortune for Yu Linglong, and the amount won’t be small.”
“But Uncle Fu never mentioned knowing anything. Since this matter is so secretive, I doubt Yu Tianqi would have told him. Otherwise, wouldn’t he have taken the money and run away?”
“That is the cunning part of Yu Tianqi. He used small favors and generosity over time to win the hearts of these servants, making them loyal to him until death. Yu Tianqi had his accident while Yu Linglong was still in Hangzhou. He must have entrusted something to Uncle Fu for Yu Linglong. I am certain Uncle Fu knows. Even if he doesn’t, as long as he is in my hands, no matter how proud Yu Linglong is, she won’t be able to ignore someone who watched her grow up and who was loyal to the Yu family.”
“The Young Master is right. Mu Sheng will go handle it now.”
“Also, you need to visit the Moon-Gazing Tower frequently these days. I want to know how she’s doing. Furthermore, tell Liao Qingyun that I hate that A-Nuo. Tell him to stay away from Linglong, or he will face my consequences.”
“Yes, Young Master.”
Yu Linglong’s wound terrified Cui Xin. After Mu Shaohui left that day, she tearfully attended to Linglong constantly. Situ Nuo had found a separate room for the two of them, which was much better than the communal quarters the other maids lived in.
“Miss, don’t scare me! Your face looks so frightening, Miss.”
“Cui Xin, your Miss has lost so much bl00d, of course her face is pale. Didn’t the doctor just say it’s not a big problem and she just needs good rest?” A-Yuan interjected.
“What good rest? What do you mean ‘of course pale’? You people are all cold-hearted scoundrels, no better than that Mu Shaohui!”
A-Yuan meant well, but he was instantly scolded by Cui Xin.
“Miss Cui Xin, though I don’t know what happened between Yu’er and Young Master Mu, there is one thing you can rest assured about: this place is safe. And starting today, I will personally look after your Miss’s safety. I trust Young Master Mu won’t act rashly. You can relax.”
“What ‘Yu’er’? It was excusable when you didn’t know, but now that you know my Miss’s true identity, you must change your address! Don’t think that just because you are Liao Qingyun’s adopted son, you can call my Miss by her name. Let me tell you, forget that Young Master Mu—my Miss never even took notice of your Liao Qingyun!”
“What kind of talk is that? A-Nuo had good intentions! Hmph, you are just as difficult as your Miss. Like mistress, like servant!” A-Yuan retorted angrily.
“How dare you call my Miss and me difficult? So what if we look down on you people?”
“Miss Cui Xin, you’ve misunderstood us. I promise I won’t call her Yu’er starting tomorrow. I’ll be mindful.”
“Not starting tomorrow, starting now.”
A-Yuan couldn’t tolerate it and was about to argue, but Situ Nuo shot him a look. “A-Yuan has a good heart, I know he means well. Now, starting now.”
Situ Nuo was deeply worried about Yu Linglong’s injury and had no interest in bickering with Cui Xin. He turned to gaze at Yu Linglong. Her brows were slightly furrowed, her eyes tightly closed, and her lips were turning blue. It was clear she was in great pain. He didn’t know if she was still conscious or could hear their argument. But he could feel that her heart was weeping.
