A Pair of Evil Women's Love - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
The next day.
Fu Haitang arrived at the company with a nervous feeling.
A letter of dismissal from the HR department lay in her inbox.
The information in the letter could be summarized in two words—terminated.
A paper copy also lay right in the middle of her desk. Sini slid her chair over. “What are you… going to do?”
“What do you mean, ‘what’ am I going to do?” Fu Haitang put away the document, looking not too bothered. “I’ll handle the normal handover, and I’ll be gone in a month.”
Sini sighed. “Sigh… I’ll miss you. Who will I eat lunch with after you leave?”
Gu Jingjing: “Come see me.”
Finally. Fu Haitang took a deep breath and said to Sini, “I have to go. Something came up.”
“What’s more important than you leaving the company? Hey!” Sini shouted. “Don’t go! My report hasn’t even—”
“Oh, right!” Fu Haitang ran back like the wind. “I have a delivery coming soon. Can you sign for it for me?”
Sini: “…”
About ten minutes later, the delivery arrived. Sini signed for it and received a book with an exquisite cover. “Twenty Love Poems and a Desperate Song?”
“Fu Haitang, that quiet pervert, isn’t planning to fall in love, is she?” Sini hissed.
…
The meeting was once again in a small private room on the 23rd-floor restaurant.
Gu Jingjing poked at the bland food in her bowl. “What’s the progress on the song and dance for Fu Yilan’s class? Record some videos for me to see.”
“I had someone order this from a high-end restaurant,” Fu Haitang said, though it was really just takeout from the staff cafeteria. She pulled out crab roe buns, cheese buns, fried crispy meat, and seven or eight other breakfast items from her canvas bag. “Miss, I could only bring it in this way. Don’t eat the porridge; eat this instead.”
Gu Jingjing held her chopsticks, barely able to stop herself from swearing. “You want me to eat food from a plastic bag?”
Even though she hated the packaging, the low-fat breakfast, lunch, and dinner provided by the TV station for the trainees were truly disgusting. It’s fine. As long as the others don’t see me, it’s fine. The smell of the crab roe buns was enticing.
“Miss,” Fu Haitang said, getting to the point with a look of sadness. “I just received my dismissal letter. I might not be able to work for you anymore.”
The crab roe bun in Gu Jingjing’s mouth almost came out. “What are you talking about?”
Fu Haitang choked up. “Wuwuwu, Miss, if I’m gone, you won’t have anyone at the TV station. What will you do?”
“You’ve been fired?” Gu Jingjing slammed her chopsticks down. “You useless person, what did you even do? If you’re fired, who’s going to keep an eye on Lu Gege for me? What if some little tramp gets to him while I’m not looking? And that Fu Yilan, my eyesore… You’re useless!”
Gu Jingjing took a deep breath. “Fine. If I can get you in, I can get someone else in. I’ll give you a sum of money, and you can take it and leave.”
“…”
No! Fu Haitang really wanted to cry now!
“Wuwuwu!” Fu Haitang’s crying suddenly got louder. “Miss, your five-star custom breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and late-night snacks, as well as your dry-cleaned clothes, will all be gone!”
Gu Jingjing: “No! My clothes can’t be washed with these people’s clothes!”
Gu Jingjing slammed the table and stood up. “I can’t not have breakfast and late-night snacks! Eating the same food as that little tramp Fu Yilan for lunch is my absolute limit!”
Fu Haitang secretly chuckled, peeking at Gu Jingjing with one eye. The extravagance of the rich always exceeded her imagination. If it weren’t for the convenience of seeing Lu Jing, Gu Jingjing wouldn’t even stay at the TV station.
“Miss, I originally planned for the second stage’s competition to turn the empty dorms of the twenty eliminated trainees into single rooms,” Fu Haitang sobbed, secretly dabbing her face with spit. “It was all for your comfort! Now I’ve been sidelined, and the plan has been changed.”
In Fu Haitang’s original plan, the single rooms were rewards for the few people with the highest popularity in the second public performance. It wasn’t exactly a custom plan for Gu Jingjing, but it was perfect for someone else.
Fu Haitang: “I’m useless. I’m willing to be replaced by you, Miss, but… my plan has been rejected. If I can’t go back to the TV station, the single rooms will be gone too.”
Fu’s crying annoyed Gu Jingjing to no end. She frowned and said, “It turns out the dramas are right. The trusted subordinate is loyal, but also the most useless teammate.”
Since she was the female antagonist, even a simple-minded one, she could probably handle an ordinary side character. Fu Haitang immediately complained: “It was President Ren. She found out that Fu Yilan was absent for the first public performance, so she’s going to fire me.”
Gu Jingjing’s eyebrows twitched, and her tone softened slightly. “Ren Qing knows you stole Fu Yilan’s inhibitors?”
“Yes… But don’t worry, I didn’t rat you out, Miss. Teacher Lu definitely won’t know about this!” Fu Haitang added.
Gu Jingjing: “At least you know your place.”
Fu Haitang mumbled an aggrieved “uh-huh.” Gu Jingjing impatiently glanced at her, suddenly finding Fu Haitang good-looking. “What’s your lipstick shade?”
Fu Haitang: “Huh?”
…
“The higher-ups have seen the new plan,” a woman said, taking a sip of coffee. “They think the old plan will be more interesting.”
“There’s no good or bad in a plan made by oneself,” Ren Qing said.
“But obviously,” the female alpha said with a smile, “the old plan has more conflict. It perfectly continues Fu Yilan’s story, while the second plan is too harmonious. There are even scenes of the girls going to the supermarket together. Isn’t that content from another show?”
“I don’t like this idea of ‘harmony’…”
“Xiaoying!” The alpha, Joey, interrupted Ren Qing. “You haven’t been thinking for too long. You can’t keep up with the fresh minds of the interns. The entertainment industry needs new bl00d, and your plan is outdated.”
Ren Qing clenched her fist.
The alpha patted her on the shoulder. “We entered the station at the same time. I’m very familiar with your leadership style. You always play it safe. It’s a breakthrough for you to be in charge of this show. I’m even a little surprised by your progress, but the second plan is clearly your style.”
Ren Qing’s body froze. “If you knew the plan wasn’t perfect, why didn’t you say so earlier?”
Joey smiled. “After summer comes autumn. The new round of appointments is about to begin. What do you think I want to do?”
“You’ve been stepping on my head for a long time! Joey!” Ren Qing roared. “What else do you want?”
Joey: “Transfer that newcomer named Fu Haitang to the advertising department. She has a great mind and should have a lot of new ideas.”
Ren Qing: “Dream on!”
“Then I’ll be going,” Joey said, waving. “I wish ‘Show of Groups 07’ great success.”
When the office was empty, Ren Qing sank into her chair as if she were exhausted. Her filming plan was on the computer. It was already halfway through, but now it had been rejected by Joey. There wasn’t enough time to make adjustments.
Ren Qing pressed the enter key. The screen flashed, revealing a headshot of Fu Haitang.
Fu Yilan and Fu Haitang were two completely different types. One was pure and seductive to the extreme, while the other seemed approachable but exuded a sense of distance. Logically, it would be difficult for people to have impure thoughts about her, but her perfect body…
Ren Qing swallowed.
An omega like this, just one step away from being a top beauty, would have no trouble marrying into a wealthy family. Ren Qing had always dreamed of tasting Fu Haitang. It seemed Joey and she were thinking the same thing.
Money, power, wine, and lust have always been the playthings of the upper class. She was already in her twenties, but she was still just a team leader. This show was a hard-won opportunity, and it might be her last.
…
“What do you want?” Fu Yilan didn’t want to see Fu Haitang. After a night of thinking, she had completely changed her mind. “I have to train.”
Fu Yilan seems a little cold? The thought flashed by. Fu Haitang’s heels clicked softly against the floor as she pulled a book from her bag.
“Twenty Love Poems and a Desperate Song.”
Fu Haitang flipped to a page and said softly, “This is for you.”
A desperate song? Is she hinting that my feelings are unrequited? Is she mocking me?
“Twenty love poems,” Fu Yilan said, her thin lips parting, “and a desperate song?”
Fu Haitang was a little embarrassed. Neruda’s poems were direct and passionate, but they seemed perfect for expressing her feelings for Fu Yilan after their physical intimacy.
Fu Yilan opened the first page. “…Woman’s body, white hills?”
“Hey, hey!” Fu Haitang was startled. “Read that later!”
Fu Yilan slammed the poetry book shut. “Fu Haitang, what do you mean by this?”
“Huh?” Fu Haitang was stunned. Was her meaning not obvious?
At the end of the hallway, Fu Yilan and Fu Haitang stood on either side. The sun shone down. This corner was a blind spot for the cameras. Fu Haitang finally noticed Fu Yilan’s mood.
“Are you angry?” Fu Haitang frowned. “It’s all Neruda’s fault for writing love poems that sound like erotica! If you don’t like it, I can get a more subtle one?”
Fu Yilan: “…”
The poetry book was thrown and hit Fu Haitang. Fu Haitang caught it, wincing. She met Fu Yilan’s scrutinizing gaze. “Fu Yilan?”
Fu Yilan crossed her arms. “You’re giving me a love poem. Are you trying to confess?”
“…Yes.” Fu Haitang’s ears were flushed.
Fu Yilan: “Impossible.”
“Impossible?” Fu Haitang frowned. “If it’s impossible, why did you ruin things between me and Ren Qing last night? Are you… are you playing me? Messing with my mind or my job?”
Fu Yilan decided not to hide it anymore. “I took you home last night. Didn’t you already have another woman there?”
“Who?” Fu Haitang denied it subconsciously, then mentally went through all the living things in her apartment, including the fake fish, flowers, and plants. Finally, she settled on the only other living person. “Ji Xiaotong?”
Fu Yilan: “Yes.”
Fu Haitang: “How could that be? She’s not my type at all!”
Fu Yilan: “What’s your type?”
Fu Haitang: “I… I like…”
Fu Yilan raised an eyebrow.
“Ji Xiaotong is my distant cousin. She’s staying at my place,” Fu Haitang explained.
Fu Yilan: “She said she often runs around the living room naked without changing clothes. Is that how you treat your cousin? You don’t even let her stay in the guest room? You just watch her run around naked every day?”
“She doesn’t change her clothes because she spent all her money on gaming! She’s a sloth at home, and she only wears those few pairs of pajamas!” Fu Haitang took a deep breath. “The reason I don’t let her in my room is that she eats instant noodles in bed! The mattresses in the master and guest bedrooms cost 98,888 each!”
Fu Yilan: “…”
Fu Yilan’s face turned red at a visible speed.
Fu Haitang scoffed. “Feeling guilty, are we?”
Fu Yilan: “…”
Fu Haitang: “Realizing you misunderstood me, are you?”
Fu Yilan lied: “It’s a little hot in this spot. It’s normal for my face to be red.”
Fu Haitang licked her lips and tightened her grip on the poetry book. She looked at Fu Yilan and slowly parted her lips. “If…”
“Ji Xiaotong said she calls you ‘mom.’ How do you explain that?” Fu Yilan pressed on again.
Fu Haitang: “…You’ll believe anything that silly girl says?”
Fu Yilan: “…”
The atmosphere became subtly strange. Fu Yilan turned her face away from Fu Haitang, and Fu Haitang turned her face away from her. They let the tension fester.
It wasn’t until the air was too thin to breathe that they both turned at the same time and said together: “Just now…”
“You first.”
“You first.”
Fu Haitang: “…”
Fu Yilan: “…”
“I!”
“I!”
They spoke in unison. A sudden phone call interrupted them.
Fu Yilan took out her phone, glanced at it, and immediately silenced it.
In that moment, Fu Haitang’s heart clenched. A call that would make Fu Yilan react like that must be from a debt collector. Fu Yilan was carrying a huge debt, and in the original book, only Lu Jing could pay it off for her!
Suddenly.
Fu Haitang took a step back.
She held the poetry book, her palms sweaty. “Fu Yilan, I want to ask you, if someone finds out that the beautiful life they’ve always dreamed of has been ruined by someone else, what do you think… they would feel?”
Fu Yilan: “What life of mine did you ruin?”
Fu Haitang: “…”
“I have a friend,” Fu Haitang said matter-of-factly.
Fu Yilan looked at Fu Haitang, and it suddenly clicked. “I know. You’re mad that I interrupted you and Ren Qing?”
Fu Haitang: “Huh?”
“No, that’s not it!” Fu Haitang put a hand to her forehead.
Fu Yilan: “Then what do you mean?”
Fu Haitang had no way to explain. Should she tell Fu Yilan about transmigrating into a book, the system, and her bizarre precognitive abilities? She’d be seen as a crazy person!
Fu Yilan’s lips were pressed into a thin line. She stared at the poetry book in Fu Haitang’s hand, her indifference from earlier replaced with a burning desire to know what was inside. Fu Yilan slowly reached out her hand.
Fu Haitang’s expression was conflicted. When that hand came close, she reflexively dodged it as if possessed.
“No, I’m not giving it to you.”
