A Pair of Evil Women's Love - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Fu Haitang wore a pair of clear glasses, a proper button-down shirt, and a pencil skirt. Despite her conservative attire, her eyes held a cold, scrutinizing gaze.
Her narrow, almond-shaped eyes, combined with a faint green tint, gave her an intimidating air.
Fu Yilan felt uneasy. She didn’t know Fu Haitang, so why did she feel like she was being held in contempt? “I didn’t hear anything.”
Fu Haitang’s lips curled up. “You’re Fu Yilan, from Chuancheng. Isn’t it tiring to come all the way to A-city to work?”
They walked back toward the studio as they talked. Fu Haitang wore high heels and was a head taller than Fu Yilan, who instinctively frowned. She felt as though Fu Haitang’s words were a constant jab. “Your accent doesn’t sound like you’re from around here either. It must be tough to start a new life in A-city.”
Fu Haitang looked at her. “What a sharp tongue you have.”
“Then I’m truly wronged,” Fu Yilan said, stopping at the door. She glanced at Fu Haitang’s work badge. “I’m going in now. Goodbye, Teacher Fu.”
“Do you know how many shots you’ll get on camera for your performance today?” Fu Haitang suddenly took a couple of steps closer, her hand on the doorknob, pushing the door that Fu Yilan had just opened a crack back shut.
The action brought them closer. Fu Yilan’s back was almost pressed against Fu Haitang, and she felt a little uncomfortable. She coolly teased, “Assault!”
Fu Haitang was stunned. She took a small step back, pursed her lips, and said, “I have no ill will toward you. Fu Yilan, the entertainment industry is all about favoritism and backstabbing. With your personality, you’re going to get taken advantage of.”
“My personality? What do you mean?” Fu Yilan gave Fu Haitang a strange look. “Teacher Fu, are we close?”
Footsteps approached from behind them. Fu Haitang instantly put on a friendly face and said with a smile, “Let’s chat next time.”
[…The filming had already begun, and Fu Yilan was the last to return to the studio. She braced herself and walked onto the stage, intending to quietly return to her seat in the second-to-last row.
But all eyes were on her. She could only press her palms together and bow repeatedly in apology. “Sorry, sorry… I apologize…”
The mentors’ gazes fell on her. The big screen showed Fu Yilan’s perfect facial features, and someone noticed that she seemed to be wearing no makeup. The mentors’ table decided to call Fu Yilan over, allowing her to jump the line and perform.
But the mentors, who had been full of anticipation, were disappointed. Fu Yilan was clearly unprepared, and she sang a terribly off-key song.
“Hahaha…”
“Oh my God, how can she be off-key on even that song?”
The mockery came in waves…]
“Just getting back?” Ren Qing glanced at the late Fu Haitang before turning her attention back to the monitor showing Fu Yilan singing. “Are you also using a cheap trick like being late to get attention?”
Ren Qing was implying that Fu Yilan had deliberately been late. Fu Haitang smiled widely. “Teacher Ren, I’m sorry, I won’t do it again.”
“Give Fu Yilan a shot,” Ren Qing gestured to the staff to zoom in. “Zoom in, let’s see if she’s really not wearing makeup.”
Fu Haitang said, “She really isn’t wearing any makeup.”
Fu Yilan was indeed bare-faced. Fu Haitang and Ren Qing exchanged a knowing look. Fu Haitang, sensing the opportunity, picked up the walkie-talkie and said, “Have the mentors mention her bare face and her skin. Sini, are you on set? Find the makeup artist and send a bottle of makeup remover to the stage.”
Fu Yilan was asked to remove her makeup on the spot. Her skin was so perfectly radiant that the people on set were green with envy. She was supposed to be at the bottom of the rankings, but she managed to squeeze into Class D by a special exception, all thanks to her looks and bare face.
This was the first time Fu Haitang had seen such a wide smile on her typically severe alpha boss.
Ren Qing: “Not bad. It’s got potential. What’s her name? Fu Yilan, right? She might become a hit. Pay close attention to her.”
Fu Yilan came from a humble background, but she was incredibly beautiful.
Fu Haitang frowned. “But her skill level…”
Ren Qing: “Can you purely rely on skill in the entertainment industry? How long would it take to get famous? Don’t you know you have to strike while the iron is hot? It might take ten years to debut with just skill. With hype and controversy, she might be a second-tier star as soon as the show airs!”
“Yes,” Fu Haitang lowered her head and didn’t say anything more. After a moment, she looked up, her expression complex as she scrutinized the visibly confused Fu Yilan on the monitor.
Chen Na: “Oh, why are you so pretty? With your looks, you’ll definitely debut.”
Fu Yilan was still giddy from the recent excitement. “Really? My aunt always said I was ugly.”
“The trainees are very excited,” the producer said. “The audio for the later episodes will be great.”
Ren Qing said, “Don’t air this content. It’ll only cause a fight between fans later, which would be bad for the show’s reputation.”
The filming continued until four in the afternoon. The trainees finally got to eat their lunch.
Fu Haitang had ordered takeout from a five-star restaurant for Gu Jingjing and had it delivered to her in a private lounge. Gu Jingjing took two bites and then threw her chopsticks down.
“That girl, Fu Yilan! Brother Lu looked at her a few times! He even complimented her on her looks! A bare face… what’s so great about a bare face? My bare face isn’t bad either!”
Gu Jingjing was 158cm tall, and her training shoes had a small, flat heel. Standing next to Fu Haitang in high heels, she looked like a petulant child.
So annoying. Fu Haitang picked up a piece of salmon with her chopsticks and held it up to Gu Jingjing’s mouth. She wanted to smash the chopsticks right into the other woman’s face but instead said with a gentle smile, “Miss, try this salmon. It’s very smooth and tasty.”
The private lounge was on the second floor, and the trainees’ cafeteria was below, visible through the glass windows.
“Go away!” Gu Jingjing pushed Fu Haitang aside and walked to the window. She looked down at the cafeteria and quickly found her target.
“Take this,” Gu Jingjing said, picking up a packet of wasabi and throwing it at Fu Haitang. “Go put it in Fu Yilan’s food.”
Fu Haitang hesitated.
“Go!” Gu Jingjing frowned. “What are you standing there for?”
Gu Jingjing was someone she couldn’t afford to anger, but the soon-to-be-successful Fu Yilan was also someone she couldn’t cross. Fu Haitang looked troubled. “Miss, if the show finds out, I’m afraid I’ll get fired.”
“What are you afraid of when I’m here?” Gu Jingjing walked slowly toward Fu Haitang and looked up at her. This was the first time she had properly looked at the female driver her family hired. She was actually pretty good-looking?
The fire in Gu Jingjing’s heart burned brighter. Frustrated, she picked up a crocodile leather handbag from the table and threw it at Fu Haitang. “This bag is worth one hundred thousand! Is that enough to make you do it?!”
One hundred thousand was what Gu Jingjing had paid her to be her mole at the TV station for five months. Including her monthly salary of eight thousand, it was a considerable income.
Fu Haitang took the wasabi packet and asked in a low voice, “Miss, does your hand hurt?”
Gu Jingjing looked at her hand. Reminded by Fu Haitang, she felt like her hand really did hurt a little. “Of course it hurts, you useless thing!”
“Yes, yes, yes,” Fu Haitang could only beg for her forgiveness and turned her face away. The corner of her mouth lifted in a helpless, doting smile.
Gu Jingjing was taken aback. Fu Haitang wasn’t short for an omega. With her high heels and her smart, capable outfit, she had a bit of an alpha’s air about her.
Gu Jingjing’s face immediately flushed.
Fu Haitang held the wasabi packet and, as she left the lounge, her eyes quickly went cold.
“Yilan!” In the cafeteria, an omega waved her hand and gestured for Fu Yilan to come sit. “Go get your food, we’ll sit together later!”
Fu Yilan: “Okay, wait for me.”
“Here’s your lunch. Do you want a free egg?” the cafeteria auntie asked.
Fu Yilan nodded. The auntie gave her a strange look and said, “No one eats these. If you like them, you can take a couple more.”
“They’re all free?” Fu Yilan asked.
Auntie: “Anyway, no one is eating them, so it’s fine if you take a couple.”
It meant that each person was limited to one free egg. Fu Yilan smiled and only took one, along with two vegetable dishes.
“You’re only eating this little bit? Are you on a diet?” Chen Na asked, confused. “How’s the fried egg? I saw that others were turned off by the fact that it was free and were too embarrassed to get one.”
Fu Yilan sat down. Chen Na was a classmate who was assigned to Class D with her after the first show. Fu Yilan took a bite of the fried egg and paused. She flipped the egg over, and the other side was completely covered in green wasabi paste.
Chen Na: “Wasabi fried egg? The TV station has such a weird dish? Hey, don’t eat it!”
“I’m fine. It’s just a little spicy. I can’t let it go to waste.” Fu Yilan finished the egg. Her eyes watered from the wasabi, but she just took a couple of sips of water.
Chen Na: “…How can you eat an egg and look like you’re about to cry?”
“I’m so mad!” Gu Jingjing threw the binoculars back into the returning Fu Haitang’s arms. “That little b*tch, Fu Yilan! Eating an egg like she was just given an aphrodisiac!”
“What’s wrong?” Fu Haitang asked, pretending to be concerned. In reality, she knew exactly what had happened. She picked up the binoculars and aimed them at Fu Yilan from behind the curtains.
When Fu Yilan was born, her parents had started their own business. When they were alive, the Fu family was well-off. Fu Yilan was a pampered little princess, but unfortunately, her parents passed away in a maritime accident when she was ten.
Since then, Fu Yilan had been living as a dependent. When she became an adult, a group of creditors came knocking, and overnight, Fu Yilan was saddled with millions in debt.
Unconsciously, frugality and cherishing food became one of her ingrained habits. Eggs were a low-cost source of protein.
Fu Haitang was confident that Fu Yilan wouldn’t throw the egg away; she would eat every last bite.
After finishing her meal, Fu Yilan went to return her tray with Chen Na. When she smiled, a small dimple appeared on the right side of her mouth. Even though her arms, waist, and legs were so thin, her cheeks were still full, and her lips were plump and rosy. After eating the wasabi, her eyes watered, and her nose ran. The small gestures of wiping her tears and holding her nose were a blend of cute and sexy.
And then there was that attention-grabbing slender waist. She was an omega who would make any alpha’s protective instincts go through the roof. Fu Yilan was, without a doubt, the most beautiful of all the trainees.
She was stunning, far surpassing everyone else.
Fu Haitang put away the binoculars, pulled the curtain shut, and left the small room with Gu Jingjing.
The moment the door closed, an unsettling feeling washed over Fu Haitang.
…Fu Yilan’s financial hardship was evident to everyone who was watching her. She felt uncomfortable with all the stares. As she went to return her tray, she lowered her head and accidentally ran into the group of mentors who had come down from the upstairs lounge.
The mentors’ appearance caused a commotion.
“Teacher Lu—”
The trainees swarmed them. Fu Yilan stumbled forward, and she fell into someone’s arms.
“Are you okay?” an alpha asked, catching Fu Yilan.
Fu Yilan didn’t have time to speak before she was startled by a sharp female voice. “What are you doing!”
Gu Jingjing was enraged. “Brother Lu… Teacher Lu, are you okay?”
Lu Jing’s expensive suit was splattered with soup.
Fu Yilan was the culprit.
Gu Jingjing pulled Fu Yilan away and raised her hand to slap her, but suddenly, she stopped.
Lu Jing grabbed Gu Jingjing’s wrist and threw her away. “What are you doing!”
“Brother Lu—mmph!” Lu Jing’s assistant suddenly appeared, covered Gu Jingjing’s mouth, and dragged her away.
“…”
Fu Yilan watched Lu Jing’s departing back with a confused look. He looked familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before.
The mentors’ visit was cut short. Lu Jing went to the dressing room to change. The scene was in chaos, and many trainees began to voice their displeasure with Fu Yilan.
…
What a cliché plot.
Fu Haitang didn’t need to be there to know exactly what was happening. As expected, a few minutes later, her phone rang.
Gu Jingjing: (I’m giving you one day!)
Gu Jingjing: (The other person has transferred 100,000 to you.)
Gu Jingjing: (I don’t care what you do. Either Fu Yilan leaves, or you leave!)
Since Miss Gu was in a fit of rage, Fu Haitang didn’t hesitate to accept the transfer. However, the next second, she started biting her lip in distress.
No matter how weak Fu Yilan was in the beginning, she was the protagonist. What was she going to do now?
After Lu Jing changed, the lunch visit segment was reshot. Fu Haitang stood in front of the monitor, resting her chin in her hand as she pondered. The sound of a camera shutter went off.
Ren Qing looked at a photo on her phone. “You’re quite good-looking. Have you ever considered debuting?”
“No,” Fu Haitang replied with a smile.
Ren Qing tried to persuade her. “You could be the center of attention, gain fans, and a lot of money. You would have the chance to move up in society. Doesn’t that tempt you at all?”
Fu Haitang put her hand down and said, “I’m a bit socially anxious.”
Ren Qing chuckled, then said, “Speaking of which, the day you came to the station, a lot of people went to see you and came back saying, ‘There’s a really pretty intern at the station.’ It’s a shame I haven’t seen you wear any makeup since.”
Fu Haitang had indeed worn light makeup that day. She remembered it herself, but unfortunately, the makeup she used was cheap. When she got back to her rental apartment, her face broke out in a rash. She could only cut her bangs in a hurry and wear large glasses to cover her face at work.
Seeing that Fu Haitang didn’t want to continue the conversation, Ren Qing changed the subject. “After this segment, we’ll be filming the girls moving into the dorms. Go check on the omega dorms and see how the logistics are.”
“Yes,” Fu Haitang said without objection. “I’ll go now.”
At seven in the evening, Fu Haitang waited outside the Class D dorms. The girls’ charming giggles could be heard from inside. Fu Haitang fiddled with a stack of nameplates in her hand. Finally, she dropped the one with “Fu Yilan” written on it into the toilet and flushed it.
“Wow! My name is here!”
“This is my bed!”
“Oh my God, they even have training uniforms. They’re like school uniforms!”
“Yilan, which bed are you in?”
Fu Yilan’s voice was neither too loud nor too soft, just enough to reach Fu Haitang’s ears. “My bed isn’t here.”
The water swirled, and the nameplate was sucked down the drain.
My apologies. After all, taking someone’s money means you have to do their dirty work. Fu Haitang shrugged her shoulders and smiled with satisfaction.
