A Pair of Evil Women's Love - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
One in the morning.
Fu Yilan walked out of the TV station with the same suitcase she had arrived with. The moment she stepped out the front door, her phone rang.
Chen Na: (Yilan, where are you going so late?)
Chen Na: (I just got out of the shower and heard my roommates talking about you. Oh my god, why did you leave? You should come back right now. You can squeeze in with me!)
Chen Na: (Which psychopath would do something like that to you?! Are you okay? Have you found a hotel yet? <crying><crying>, hurry up and come back, you can stay with me, I’m serious. If anyone dares to talk about you, I’ll slap them!)
(I’m fine.) Fu Yilan pulled her suitcase with one hand and typed her reply to Chen Na with the other. She was experienced in sleeping on the streets, so she reassured Chen Na not to worry. (I’ll just stay at a 24-hour convenience store for now and find a place tomorrow.)
Fu Yilan pushed open the door of a nearby cafe. “Hello.”
A face that looked utterly exhausted appeared from behind the counter. The staff member asked in a weak voice, “Hello… can I help you?”
After speaking, the person suddenly went limp and collapsed to the floor with a thud.
Fu Yilan: “…”
“Are you okay?” Fu Yilan gripped her phone and slowly walked behind the counter. “Are you alright? Do you need me to call an ambulance?”
“N-no…” the woman said with a forced laugh. Her eyes were so heavy with exhaustion she could barely keep them open. She laughed and said, “I’m just too tired.”
Next to her were a coffee machine and beans. A fast-food menu was spread out on the table, and receipts and uncounted change were scattered everywhere. Fu Yilan carefully looked over the scene and helped the girl up.
The girl said, “I’m so sorry, the staff has already gone home. I’m just too tired. Maybe you can go somewhere else? Or I can have a delivery service send you something.”
Fu Yilan: “…”
“I’ll help you out,” Fu Yilan said, and she began to clean the counter. She was quick and efficient, and she soon fixed the jammed cash register. She sorted the change, cleaned up the leftover coffee grounds, and took an apron that was nearby. She put it on while studying the coffee machine she’d never seen before.
The girl gradually perked up. She looked at Fu Yilan with pleasant surprise as she skillfully tidied up the counter. She then noticed the suitcase next to the table and slammed her hand down. “Your accent isn’t local!”
Fu Yilan: “I’m from Chuancheng.”
“Then you must not have a place to stay yet!” the girl said happily.
Fu Yilan couldn’t smell any pheromones on her, so the person in front of her must have been a beta. She replied with a sweet smile, “That’s right.”
“So are you looking for a job?” the girl asked, delighted.
Fu Yilan was surprised. “How did you know?”
“Hahaha!”
“This is great!”
“Hey, hey, stop working for a bit, come over here, come over here…”
The sound went out of the cafe, and Fu Yilan was pulled to the back. It was an unexpected twist of fate, and she couldn’t help but smile.
A-City.
The cicadas chirped incessantly during the summer nights.
Fu Haitang was the last of her team to leave work. When she exited the TV station, even the front desk staff member on duty was asleep at their desk.
A red glow lit up. Fu Haitang exhaled a puff of white air, feeling a little tired. She loosened the claw clip in her hair, massaged her scalp a few times, and, feeling a little lighter, took a pair of slippers from a bag on the side. She swapped out her seven-centimeter heels and got up to leave.
“Nice body.”
“An omega? Isn’t she a bit too tall?”
“What’s there to be afraid of? My sensitive period is coming up. She’ll definitely be begging me.”
“Wanna go hit on her?” The conversation between a few alphas came from a few steps away.
“Tsk.” Fu Haitang made an impatient sound. She then looked at her bracelet. It was three in the morning, and only a 24-hour fast-food restaurant was open on the street. She pushed the door open and went in.
“One burger, and a coke with ice.” Fu Haitang took out her phone, scanned the code, and then looked up. Her expression was one of surprise. “It’s you.”
Fu Yilan hummed in response, acting as if the person who had just been in a heated exchange with Fu Haitang at the station wasn’t her. Fu Yilan, looking a little sleepy, handed Fu Haitang a receipt. “Have a seat.”
Fu Haitang clicked her tongue in amazement. She really is the protagonist O. She found a job so quickly. It’s only 500 meters from the TV station. If it includes food and lodging for the night shift, she could work two jobs and get two paychecks?
While Fu Haitang was lost in her thoughts, a tray was pushed onto the counter with a sharp, grating sound. The burger was warm, and the coke was fizzing.
Fu Yilan: “Eat.”
“Thanks,” Fu Haitang immediately said. “I didn’t mean to screw you over.”
Facing the female protagonist in an environment with only the two of them, Fu Haitang’s mind raced. She decided to be partially honest, blame others, and feign pity to gain the protagonist’s sympathy and goodwill.
Fu Yilan didn’t say anything, she was a little surprised to hear her bring up the conflict between them.
The burger bun was soft, and the lettuce was crispy and fresh. With one bite, the texture was rich… Fu Haitang’s look of enjoyment froze as a pungent smell shot up her nose. “Cough, cough, cough!”
Wasabi?
Fu Haitang grabbed the nearby coke and chugged it down. Her eyes were watering from the spiciness. Fu Yilan, holding a cup of coffee, sat down across from her.
“You…” Fu Haitang took a deep breath and quickly finished the burger. “What did you put in there?”
Fu Yilan put on an exaggerated expression of surprise, as if it had nothing to do with her. “It’s all wasabi. Why didn’t you throw it away?”
Fu Haitang finished her coke and leaned on the edge of the table, panting. “It’s not every day I get to eat one.”
Fu Yilan paused, then frowned and scrutinized Fu Haitang, trying to figure out what she was thinking.
That phrase was identical to what Fu Yilan had said to Chen Na when she couldn’t bear to throw away the egg. Fu Haitang was sure that Fu Yilan would soften up, and even if she didn’t, she would at least feel a little moved by her pathetic act.
Fu Haitang chewed the burger with big bites. Her sobs were audible, and as she looked up, tears streamed down her cheeks.
Fu Yilan knelt down, leaned in, and stared into Fu Haitang’s eyes. She asked, “Then next time, will you still put wasabi in my food?”
Fu Yilan’s eyes were beautiful. Her round, almond-shaped eyes had a natural, upward curve at the ends, like the long trail of smoke left by a plane as it broke through the sky. Her face was both pure and charming, and her excellent figure couldn’t be hidden by a simple white T-shirt and faded jeans.
Fu Haitang felt a tickle in her nose and a slight discomfort in her lower back. She pulled back and said with a teary-eyed smile, “They’re paying me to do it.”
The one-hundred-thousand-dollar crocodile leather bag was still in her backpack, and her WeChat wallet had a fresh deposit of a hundred thousand yuan.
She had earned two hundred thousand yuan for making Fu Yilan uncomfortable for a day.
By proactively confessing, she was giving up some profit. Fu Haitang licked her lips and negotiated with Fu Yilan, “How about I give you a share?”
“…”
Fu Yilan was clearly surprised, her eyes widening as she looked at Fu Haitang.
She really is the protagonist O, she can’t be swayed by money. Fu Haitang felt a little regretful. Just as she was about to give up, a QR code was held up in front of her.
She’s willing to take the money, so our relationship can be salvaged. Fu Haitang let out a huge sigh of relief.
“What’s the relationship between Gu Jingjing and Lu Jing?” Fu Yilan asked.
Fu Haitang scanned two thousand yuan to Fu Yilan. “Miss Gu and Teacher Lu…”
According to the book, Fu Yilan wouldn’t find out that Lu Jing was Gu Jingjing’s fiancé until much later. Fu Haitang thought for a moment and said, “Miss Gu is Teacher Lu’s fan.”
Fu Yilan looked at her phone. “Two thousand?”
Fu Haitang blinked. “Yeah.”
“I’m going to tell Gu Jingjing that you transferred two thousand yuan to me.” As soon as Fu Yilan finished her sentence, Fu Haitang immediately said, “I’ll give you twenty thousand.”
“Deal.”
Received 2,000 yuan.
Received 18,000 yuan.
Twenty thousand yuan? It came so easily.
A thought flashed through Fu Yilan’s mind, and she suddenly said, “I just started working here two hours ago.”
Fu Haitang put away her phone, hummed in response, and looked for an excuse to leave.
“The boss said I’ll be working the night shift after two in the morning. There’s almost no one here from two to seven a.m., so I can rest in the store and go back to the station for filming when it’s light out.”
“I’m not getting paid.”
“And food isn’t included.”
Fu Haitang picked up her water cup and saw that it was empty. She awkwardly glanced out the window.
“But the manager is willing to let me stay here as long as I keep an eye on the store during those hours.”
A-City was as silent as the deep sea. The two people who looked like thugs were gone. Fu Haitang turned to look at Fu Yilan. Smart people didn’t need everything to be spelled out; a few words were enough for mutual understanding.
“You’re really pathetic,” Fu Haitang said.
The corner of Fu Yilan’s mouth twitched. “You don’t look like you’re doing so well either.”
They both fell silent.
The atmosphere was uncomfortably quiet.
Fu Yilan stared at Fu Haitang for a while. “Your style is a little too mature. It doesn’t really suit you.”
Fu Haitang straightened her back. “Really? I’m not mature enough?”
Fu Yilan: “…”
Her gaze moved down. Fu Yilan scanned her once more. This woman in front of her truly had a right to be proud.
“How old are you?” Fu Yilan asked.
Fu Haitang: “Asking about my personal life? Are you interested in me? I’m not into omegas.”
Fu Yilan: “…”
They fell silent again.
After a while, Fu Haitang was the first to break the silence. “How can I trust you?”
Fu Yilan: “If you don’t trust me, I’ll expose you.”
Now it was Fu Haitang’s turn to be speechless.
“For me, it just means I’ll drop out of the competition. For you, it means losing your connection to Gu Jingjing. I can find another job, and so can you,” Fu Yilan said.
The implication was: If you don’t accept my proposal, then neither of us gets to live the good life. We’ll both have to pack our bags and go back to being honest, monthly-wage-earning workers!
Fu Haitang needed some time to think. She pushed her empty cup toward Fu Yilan. “Coke refill.”
Fu Yilan took the cup.
Fu Haitang immediately took out her phone and typed a message to the system: (Fu Yilan wants to partner with me to commit fraud!)
The system was mindlessly devoted and biased toward the protagonist: (Then she must be the most excellent telemarketer!)
Fu Haitang gave a surprised sound. That was a very interesting perspective.
“Coke with ice,” Fu Yilan murmured to the fridge, her sharp peripheral vision fixed on Fu Haitang. After pouring the coke, she deliberately walked in quietly. Fu Haitang’s phone was face down on the table, and she was propping her chin up, daydreaming.
Fu Yilan let out a sigh of relief. If Fu Haitang had told Gu Jingjing about this, she really wouldn’t have been sure if she could continue on the show.
After drinking a cup of cold coke, Fu Haitang picked up her backpack and slowly stood up straight. Fu Yilan also stood up and met her gaze.
They both said in unison:
“Happy to be working with you.”
“Happy to be working with you.”
