A Pair of Evil Women's Love - Chapter 53
Chapter 53: [VIP]
“What, you want to fall in love?” Fu Yilan asked.
Fu Haitang knew it was a misunderstanding and explained, “I don’t. It’s…”
“You do!” Fu Yilan suddenly leaned in, grabbed Fu Haitang’s wrist, and moved closer. “You clearly do!”
Fu Haitang: “I don’t…”
“How dare you lie!” Fu Yilan snapped.
Fu Haitang was taken aback by the roar. Their noses were only two inches apart. Fu Yilan’s mouth was severe, but her eyes seemed to hold more than just anger.
Fu Haitang narrowed her eyes, carefully studying Fu Yilan. After a while, she suddenly laughed.
After the laughter, Fu Yilan’s indignation visibly changed, gradually adding a hint of guilt and hesitation. She pursed her lips. “What are you laughing at?”
Fu Haitang said leisurely, “You’re right. I do want to fall in love.”
Fu Yilan’s hand tightened. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. She was angry when Fu Haitang denied it, and even more angry when she admitted it. Her heart was in a tumult, like it was being bounced around on a horse’s back. She gritted her teeth. “You just said no, and now you’re saying yes. Is there… a single truth in what you say!”
Fu Haitang’s gaze moved down, settling on Fu Yilan’s straight-lined lips. “I want to.”
The tip of her tooth had bitten the corner of her lips, leaving a white line. Her dimple was also faintly visible due to her changing expression. Fu Haitang raised an eyebrow, teasing her: “Are you angry or secretly happy?”
Fu Yilan’s anger grew. “You—”
“But it’s not Chen Lang,” Fu Haitang suddenly said. Her eyes were filled with a smile, and she repeated, “I do want to, but it’s not Chen Lang.”
Fu Yilan’s expression relaxed. In that brief moment, Fu Haitang pulled her wrist away, kneading it with her other hand to relax. Then she stood up, fluffed her hair, looked at her phone, and said, “You only have two hours of leave. We should go back.”
“Then who is it?” Fu Haitang was putting on her shoes under the tatami mat. She was already facing away from Fu Yilan, but the voice came from behind. She glanced to the side. Fu Yilan was standing still, not moving a muscle.
Fu Haitang: “Who are you talking about?”
Fu Yilan turned around, her brows furrowed. “Who are you talking about?”
“It’s up to you,” Fu Haitang said, having finished putting on her shoes. She stood up straight and looked at Fu Yilan. She smiled and asked, “Did you hear me clearly?”
Fu Yilan instinctively looked away. She was silent for two seconds, a smile hidden on her lips as she sat down to change her shoes. “Then… let’s go back.”
“Alright.” Fu Haitang held out a hand to help her. “Hey, who do you think that person is?”
“What?” Fu Yilan’s tone was vague.
Fu Haitang: “The person I want to be in a relationship with.”
The smile on Fu Yilan’s lips disappeared. She was so annoyed she said, “If you talk nonsense again, I’ll…”
“You’ll what?” Fu Haitang held back a laugh. “You’ll kiss me?”
Fu Yilan: “Ah!”
Fu Haitang’s movements were sudden. She lifted Fu Yilan into her arms. “This way.”
Fu Yilan: “The elevator is over there!”
“You took a taxi here and didn’t even wear a mask. Chen Lang just messaged me and said there might be paparazzi downstairs. We’ll take the back door,” Fu Haitang said.
Fu Yilan frowned. “So what?”
Fu Haitang raised an eyebrow. “I had you take a taxi so that people with intentions would know you’re already in a company. You’re very popular now. I’ve rejected more than ten companies and only set up a meeting with Chen Lang.”
The path got more and more remote as they walked, and the Omega in her arms looked upset again. Fu Haitang immediately explained, “Chen Lang and I don’t know each other. I just liked his company. It’s not too bad, so it won’t be out of your league, but it’s not too good, either, so that if the collaboration doesn’t work out, we won’t offend anyone we can’t afford to.”
Fu Yilan: “You’re very thoughtful.”
Fu Haitang smiled. “Of course. If you join a too-famous company, you’ll probably be suppressed by their top artists. Small companies’ resources might be average, but there’s no lack of opportunities for competition in the entertainment industry. As long as you have enough popularity, you’ll also have…”
“Then do I have to sign with a company? Or find a manager?” Fu Yilan interrupted Fu Haitang.
The elevator reached the basement. Fu Haitang was a little surprised by what Fu Yilan said. “What?”
Fu Yilan: “I don’t want to be constrained.”
“With a company, you’ll at least have a place to go. After your debut, more and more companies will come to you. If you don’t look at any or sign anything, you won’t have a contract, which will offend people,” Fu Haitang analyzed the pros and cons, starting the car to head back to the station.
Fu Yilan: “What about you?”
The car stopped at a traffic light. Fu Haitang was surprised. “Me?”
“Will you always stay at the TV station?” Fu Yilan asked. “Stay by Gu Jingjing’s side? Be her obedient servant when she’s acting spoiled?”
Fu Yilan: “Can you still go back?”
The red light turned green. Fu Haitang was silent the whole way. When they arrived downstairs at the TV station, she followed her usual routine of letting Fu Yilan go up first and then going up ten minutes later.
The car door opened and closed. Fu Yilan had been gone for a while, but Fu Haitang was still frowning.
Her phone rang. It was Chen Lang.
The car’s speakers connected the call. Chen Lang’s hearty laughter came through. “Have you arrived at the company?”
Fu Haitang gave him a cold look, her tone filled with a smile. “Mr. Chen is so thoughtful. You know everything about me.”
“Director Fu, I’m an Alpha. I hope you’re not repulsed by that.”
The implication was clear. Fu Haitang didn’t know whether to accept or decline. Silence spread. Chen Lang coughed. “I’m sorry, I was just distracted.”
Chen Lang: “I… was saying…”
“Mr. Chen, Fu Yilan has declined this collaboration. I’m afraid… I’m sorry,” Fu Haitang said softly. “I apologize.”
Chen Lang became anxious. “Haitang, was I too eager? Please tell her… you should also think about it again. The contract details haven’t been finalized yet. We will definitely give Fu Yilan the best treatment…”
“I have something to do. I have to go,” Fu Haitang said. “Mr. Chen, let’s talk in detail another day if there’s a chance.”
Chen Lang: “Okay, then I’ll contact Fu Yilan and you another day.”
Fu Haitang rubbed her eyebrows. She hadn’t expected Fu Yilan to try to persuade her to leave the TV station. She hadn’t thought about leaving, but according to her contract with Gu Jingjing, after the show’s recording was over and her work at the TV station was finished, she was supposed to go back to the Gu family and be the private driver for the rich young lady again.
Could she still go back?
The TV station had the power to make or break a show, and going back to Gu Jingjing’s side meant becoming a low-profile driver.
Should she break away from the NPC’s pre-planned path, or should she indulge herself for once?
“Pfft.” Fu Haitang laughed. “What am I thinking?”
Indulge herself for once? She had already indulged herself more than once. Her intimate moments with Fu Yilan were countless. She had dug at the corners of the book’s male protagonist’s wall countless times.
She had long since deviated from the NPC’s path.
Maybe, she was now holding the script of someone Fu Yilan had once loved but would come to hate later.
Fu Haitang snorted, her shoulders shaking as she lay her head on the steering wheel. Her laughter was muffled. She suddenly laughed out loud. Tears came to her eyes, and she gently wiped them away with her fingertips, slowly relaxing her mind.
She had even gone so far as to expose Gu Jingjing’s matter, hoping to use the Gu family’s pressure to get Gu Jingjing to return home so that Fu Yilan wouldn’t have a rival.
Thinking about it now, she had made a wrong move. Fortunately, the Gu family’s people were following the plot and had spared Gu Jingjing for secretly entering the entertainment industry. Otherwise, if Gu Jingjing had returned home, she might already be on her way to pick her up for afternoon tea.
The plan had changed. Fu Haitang returned to the office, pulled up a document, and typed in “Gu Jingjing.”
Time flew by. It was already Friday night.
Fu Haitang had been staring at the editing all day. This episode’s preview needed to be released at midnight to warm up for the weekend’s live broadcast.
“Tell everyone to come for the final review,” Fu Haitang said.
That night, the meeting room on the 23rd floor of the TV station was brightly lit.
The review was over at 11:30 p.m. Sini clapped. “This is truly a work of art. The way you edited it, I’m almost falling in love with the Young Miss!”
Fu Haitang: “It wasn’t easy to find this footage. The editing team stayed up for two long nights.”
Applause filled the meeting room. Fu Haitang raised her hand to signal for silence. She smiled humbly. “If no one has any more comments, then let’s upload it and wait for the broadcast.”
“Hurry!” Sini shouted. “This is the first episode after the start of the star show. We can’t let the TV station down!”
“OK!” Fu Haitang snapped her fingers. “Everyone, get in position. Remember to monitor the public opinion when it airs. Except for the two colleagues in the technical department on duty, everyone else can go home. Thank you for your hard work.”
Sini coughed and stood up. “Haitang, then I…”
“Sini, stay behind with the trainee colleagues. The meeting is adjourned, everyone.” Fu Haitang closed her file and winked at Sini with a smile.
Sini was going crazy: “…Ahhhhhh, Haitang, you workaholic, can you please take me with you!”
“You’ll be happy when you get your paycheck,” Fu Haitang said in a low voice, covering her lips.
Sini “eew’ed” and said with disgust, “Are you in heat?”
Fu Haitang: “…”
Sini quickly took a few steps back, covering her mouth and nose. “Didn’t you take an inhibitor?”
Fu Haitang frowned. “I did.”
“I’m leaving now. Here, take this.” Sini took a box of test strips out of her bag. They were for Omegas to test their pheromone concentration. One drop of bl00d could show if it was a mild or severe concentration.
Sini: “Did you buy an expired inhibitor?”
“I’m going back to the office now.” Fu Haitang grabbed the test kit.
A drop of red bl00d fell and gradually stained the test strip. Fu Haitang glanced at it while drinking water and almost choked. A moderate concentration?
She had clearly taken an inhibitor!
Fu Haitang suddenly remembered something. She searched the trash can next to her desk, where she threw away shredded paper. The trash can was empty. The cleaning lady had already taken it away.
Fu Haitang: “…”
Should she go downstairs to buy one?
Sini sent a message: (How are you doing? Do you have an inhibitor?)
Fu Haitang: (Can you buy one for me?)
Sini called her. “Are you okay? I’m still recording post-interviews here and can’t leave. The trainees have some. I’ll have her send one over to you. Just hold on a little longer. Don’t go into heat at the TV station.”
Fu Haitang: “…”
“Who did you ask? Hello—Sini?” Fu Haitang hadn’t even had a chance to ask clearly when the busy signal from the call ending rang.
Fu Haitang felt a fever coming on. She unbuttoned her shirt cuffs and untied the black and white scarf from her neck. The two cups of water on the table were empty.
The heat was difficult to get rid of. Fu Haitang paced back and forth until a knock on the door sounded. She rushed to the door, opened it a crack, and held out her hand.
“Just give it to me.”
The person outside didn’t say anything. The well-packaged syringe was placed in her palm. Fu Haitang was about to close her hand when the person suddenly took the item away, leaving her hand empty.
Fu Haitang: “Who are you? Stop messing around!”
