A Paper Contract GL - Chapter 11
The moment Chen Nan appeared, flashbulbs started flickering wildly. Jiang Yuetong instinctively stepped to the side, as being photographed would always be difficult to explain.
“Let’s go.” Chen Nan struck just two poses, then dodged the media, pulling Jiang Yuetong into the VIP area. The media did not forget to snap pictures of Jiang Yuetong’s retreating figure, creating rumors out of thin air.
“Yiran, isn’t that Chen Nan?” Chen Jiaxu nudged his son.
“It looks like it,” Chen Yiran replied.
“And who is that girl she dragged in? Hmph, honestly, bringing women out in public in broad daylight. She’s completely ruining the reputation of Tianqi Group,” Chen Jiaxu sneered.
Chen Yiran said, “It’s nothing, Dad. That’s just big sister’s private life. So what if the media exposes it? No one can interfere with the choices of love.”
Chen Jiaxu seemed angered. He said, “What big sister? Is she your big sister? Don’t always speak up for her. Are you truly foolish or just pretending? Don’t you want your grandfather’s billions of assets? Idiot! She is our enemy, not a friend. Remember that.”
The play ended after two hours. Jiang Yuetong tried hard to keep herself from falling asleep.
As the two walked out, heavy rain began to fall. Small vendors were waiting for the crowd to disperse nearby, sheltering in the long corridor beneath the theater. Jiang Yuetong walked over to look. A pair of pure silver pendant necklaces deeply caught her eye. The necklaces were unique; the pendants were made up of two irregular small hearts, which combined to form one large heart. Jiang Yuetong held them in her hand, unable to put them down, and asked for the price: 126 yuan. Just as Jiang Yuetong was about to pay, Chen Nan had already pulled out her wallet.
On the way to drop Jiang Yuetong home, the BMW was not moving fast due to the rain.
“The rain is getting heavier,” Jiang Yuetong said to Chen Nan, watching the back-and-forth motion of the windshield wipers.
Chen Nan said, “This is just a thunderstorm. Don’t look at how hard it’s raining now; it will stop soon.”
“How do you know?” Jiang Yuetong realized that whenever she was around Chen Nan, she was rapidly turning into a curious child full of questions.
“I’ve experienced this kind of rain many times, so I know without checking the weather forecast.” Chen Nan smiled faintly. This seemed to be her first sincere smile since she and Jiang Yuetong had been together. Her smile was gentle and gave people a warm, kind feeling. It was just that Chen Nan smiled this way too rarely.
“Oh, right.” Jiang Yuetong opened her bag, took out the necklace box they had just bought, and poured both necklaces into her hand. “Here you go. It’s not very expensive.” Jiang Yuetong handed one necklace to Chen Nan.
Chen Nan took it. “Did you deliberately buy matching necklaces to give to me?”
Jiang Yuetong said, “Of course not. You paid for it, so I’m giving you one.”
Although Jiang Yuetong said this, a trace of small warmth touched Chen Nan’s heart. This wasn’t the first time she had received a gift, but only this time did it touch Chen Nan’s heart. She carefully tucked the necklace into the pocket of her clothing. Jiang Yuetong saw this gesture and couldn’t help but smile slightly. Although Chen Nan’s outward appearance always gave off an unapproachable wildness and coldness, her inner self was still very delicate and real. Perhaps the person you see on the inside is often very different from the person you see on the outside.
Jiang Yuetong put the necklace around her neck, turned her head, and asked Chen Nan with a smile, “Does it look good?”
Chen Nan turned her head, looked into Jiang Yuetong’s eyes, and nodded. The diamonds on the necklace pendant glittered. Although she knew they weren’t real diamonds, the light was still bright. Chen Nan also wanted to put on her necklace, but she quickly thought better of it.
The music in the car flowed like water, with gentle and soft lyrics:
Along the way, how much dust, who owes whom the debt of love;
The so-called entanglement is only pain, and the arrangements of fate cannot be changed.
I still can’t let go, I depend on you too much, I only blame myself for not being able to confess; it’s just that I still can’t let go, my expectations for you, unable to ignore the existence of true love…
The car quickly drove into Jiang Yuetong’s residential community. Jiang Yuetong said, “Just stop at the entrance. If you drive inside, there might be too many cars, making it difficult to turn around.”
Chen Nan glanced at the direction of the gate and said in a light tone, “I know. You’re afraid I’ll stop right at your door and your family will see. Fine, I’ll stop here. You can get off.”
“Oh, and thank you very much for sponsoring the student in our class,” Jiang Yuetong said very sincerely.
Chen Nan nodded, understanding her meaning. “Don’t be so polite. That student genuinely has talent in a certain area, and I’m happy to sponsor a child like that. However, that is also part of our transaction, so you don’t need to keep thanking me.”
Jiang Yuetong felt a little awkward but didn’t say anything more. After saying goodbye and parting ways, they went their separate ways.
Jiang Yuetong returned to her doorstep. Just as she was about to ring the doorbell, she checked her watch. It was almost eleven o’clock, and her family was probably asleep. Jiang Yuetong rummaged through her bag for the key to open the door, but couldn’t find it no matter how hard she looked. She thought carefully—did she leave it in Chen Nan’s car? That seemed to be the only possibility, as she had been looking for her phone to check the time in the car earlier, so the keys must have fallen out there. Just as Jiang Yuetong was hesitating, the red BMW sports car drove back again. Jiang Yuetong saw Chen Nan roll down the window from a distance, shaking a set of keys at her. It turned out she really had left her keys in the car.
“Thank you for bringing the keys back especially,” Jiang Yuetong said with a faint smile.
“Don’t mention it. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to get inside and would sit by the door all night. The weather is getting colder now.” Chen Nan pursed her lips and looked at the downpour, which seemed to have lessened slightly. “Besides, it’s raining tonight.”
Jiang Yuetong looked at Chen Nan, feeling that Chen Nan had suddenly become different. “Are you that kind-hearted…” Jiang Yuetong expressed her doubt. As the two stood talking at Jiang Yuetong’s doorstep, a motorcycle sped past, looking as if it were flying. With a screech, the motorcycle braked hard on the wet road, but the surface was too slippery, and the motorcycle spun quickly towards Jiang Yuetong.
Chen Nan reacted quickly, holding Jiang Yuetong’s waist with one arm, pulling her into her embrace, and dodging the incoming motorcycle. The motorcycle driver seemed fine. Upon seeing that the two had avoided his bike, the driver only apologized and drove away. However, Chen Nan’s hand was still on Jiang Yuetong’s waist, and the atmosphere instantly became extremely ambiguous.
Jiang Yuetong’s face was inches away. Chen Nan took two deep breaths but couldn’t keep her breathing steady. Holding a woman as beautiful as a celestial being like this, only a god could control the surging heat within their body. Jiang Yuetong was also stunned, unsure how to react, and could only watch as Chen Nan brought their distance closer and closer.
No way. Weren’t they just arguing before? Do they have to kiss after only one date? Weren’t they just acting for Chen Nan’s grandfather? How did it escalate to wanting to kiss?
Jiang Yuetong swallowed. Although her waist was held by Chen Nan, her upper body was constantly leaning backward, while Chen Nan’s body was leaning forward.
In the next second, Jiang Yuetong felt a momentary darkening of her vision as a wet, soft, and tender mouth touched her lips, but Jiang Yuetong’s eyes were still open! Focusing her gaze, she saw that Chen Nan had closed her eyes, looking quite enjoying it!
She, she just kissed her?
Everything happened a bit fiercely and quickly. Jiang Yuetong didn’t even have time to react. She only felt a certain place deep within her heart begin to burn fiercely… She desperately wanted to push Chen Nan away immediately, but seeing Chen Nan’s closed-eyes, serious look, Jiang Yuetong just couldn’t bring herself to be harsh, and could only let herself be taken advantage of temporarily.
It was originally just a simple kiss. Chen Nan had only lightly placed her lips on Jiang Yuetong’s, but it was clear she wanted more. This simple kiss was no longer enough to satisfy her. In fact, Chen Nan had wanted to do this the moment Jiang Yuetong walked out in her dress. Chen Nan held Jiang Yuetong tighter with her hands, preparing for a deeper kiss.
Jiang Yuetong seemed to sense Chen Nan’s intention. She only felt the fiercely beating heart in her chest slowly sink, and then float up again. As Chen Nan prepared to deepen the kiss, Jiang Yuetong pushed her away.
“What, you don’t like it?” Chen Nan looked directly at Jiang Yuetong, without any evasion.
Jiang Yuetong dared not look into Chen Nan’s eyes, diverting her gaze elsewhere.
“I won’t remember anything that just happened. I’ll treat it as a dream, a disrupted dream…” Jiang Yuetong was a bit incoherent. In short, she wanted to deny the fact that Chen Nan had just kissed her.
Chen Nan seemed to have reverted to her narcissistic, irritable self. Seeing Jiang Yuetong so intent on erasing what had just happened, anger welled up in her. “I’m sorry. I just suddenly thought you looked a lot like my ex-girlfriend. You know, I loved her very much. Maybe it was the lighting, but I momentarily mistook you for her, which is why I did that. Please don’t misunderstand and think I actually enjoyed kissing you.” As Chen Nan spoke, she didn’t forget to wipe her mouth with her hand.
Jiang Yuetong’s face turned somewhat pale. She glanced at Chen Nan, said no more, took the key, and went upstairs.
Chen Nan watched Jiang Yuetong’s retreating figure. The slight chill after the rain made her feel very clear-headed. She hadn’t mistaken Jiang Yuetong for anyone else. Chen Nan had long forgotten what her last girlfriend looked like. She truly just wanted to kiss Jiang Yuetong, but her inner voice wouldn’t allow her to be vulnerable. Yes, Chen Nan would not show weakness in front of Jiang Yuetong, so she made up an excuse to cover her actions. However, Chen Nan also regretted saying that, because she clearly saw a hint of disappointment and sadness on Jiang Yuetong’s face. She didn’t know when it started, but Chen Nan no longer wanted to genuinely upset Jiang Yuetong.
Sighing, Chen Nan returned to her car. However, she did not drive away immediately. Her mind was filled with the images of embracing and kissing Jiang Yuetong just moments ago. Chen Nan lit a cigarette, trying to use the smoke to drive the images away, but she failed. Chen Nan mumbled to herself, “Chen Nan, are you crazy? Or are you too starved for women? How could you develop any feelings for this kind of vixen? She’s the one who seduced Grandpa. I absolutely cannot develop feelings for her! Sigh…” Chen Nan sighed deeply. “I really am crazy…” With that, Chen Nan accelerated, and the car quickly disappeared into the night.
