A Paper Contract GL - Chapter 13
Chen Nan’s voice remained loud, successfully reaching everyone in the coffee shop and infuriating the two men opposite them.
“Isn’t that right? I’m asking you. Tell them, so they don’t misunderstand.” Chen Nan raised an eyebrow and pointed at the people opposite.
Jiang Yuetong was unable to defend herself. She hadn’t expected Chen Nan to suddenly burst in like this. It was utterly mortifying. She didn’t want anything now but to find a hole to crawl into.
The men opposite looked at Chen Nan with resentful eyes, then at Jiang Yuetong. “You two liars, if you weren’t women, I might actually use force.” They were mainly upset that they had been manipulated and humiliated in a public place.
Chen Nan did not back down. “You’d better not treat us like women. Hurry up and use force on us. Oh, no, let me correct that, just use force on me.” After saying that, Chen Nan smiled slightly, making people even more inclined to punch her.
The two men said nothing more, angrily getting up and leaving their seats. They left so quickly they forgot to pay the bill.
“Chen Nan! What are you doing?” Jiang Yuetong spat out the words almost through gritted teeth.
Chen Nan plopped down in the seats the two men had just occupied, facing Jiang Yuetong. “You dare to question me? I have a score to settle with you.” At this point, Jiang Yuetong also sat down. Their eyes met, and Jiang Yuetong saw the anger in Chen Nan’s bright eyes.
“What did I do…” Jiang Yuetong shrank her shoulders and blinked her eyes.
“Fine, then I’ll ask you, what did you come here for today?” Without waiting for Jiang Yuetong to answer, Chen Nan shouted, “A blind date! You’re really something! Meeting these random men behind my back. I really don’t know what you’re thinking.” Chen Nan’s anger only intensified the more she talked.
A tiger not showing its might is mistaken for a sick cat. Jiang Yuetong straightened up, sat upright, lifted her head, and said word for word, “What right do you have to question me? So what if my mother arranged this blind date? Could I not come? Besides, we are only pretending for your grandfather’s sake. How many times do you want me to say it? Please stop taking this seriously yourself, okay? Furthermore, who was it who initially called me a vixen and swore she would never marry me? Why are you so nervous and agitated now?”
“You!” Chen Nan couldn’t remember how many times Jiang Yuetong had left her speechless. “We agreed to date sincerely, and this is you cheating on me. Anyway, I don’t care. You are absolutely forbidden from going on blind dates again.” Chen Nan began to be unreasonable.
Jiang Yuetong’s face flushed with anger. “Also, where did you pop up from, talking nonsense and causing a scene? Do you know those were boyfriends introduced by my mother? What if they go back and spread rumors? Did you think about the consequences?”
Chen Nan had never been scolded like a child before. Was Jiang Yuetong so accustomed to being a teacher that she used this tone on everyone? Chen Nan couldn’t stand it, and her voice gradually turned cold. “Did I ‘pop up’? Do you think I’m a soap bubble? I walked over openly. If you are blind and didn’t see me, who is to blame? Besides, look at the things sitting in front of you. Are those normal men? Their eyes were full of lust staring at your chest, just short of stripping you naked. And you were so cheap as to offer your hand. If it were me, I’d go wash my hands a hundred times right now.” Chen Nan’s tone was aggressive and ruthless, and her voice was loud. They had successfully become the focal point of the coffee shop.
“Could you please not speak so loudly? Don’t you see everyone is watching us?”
Chen Nan shouted back, “Let them watch! Why should we care about other people’s stares? Besides, what can I do if they want to look at me?”
“You speak so loudly, people can’t help but look! You’re becoming more and more outrageous!” The anger was clearly visible on Jiang Yuetong’s face. In every previous argument, Jiang Yuetong had a hint of a smile in her eyes, but not today.
Seeing this, Chen Nan’s voice immediately softened. “Am I outrageous? I don’t even have a woman right now, okay… It’s you… honestly, none of the women around me would dare to cheat…” Chen Nan’s voice faded.
Jiang Yuetong glared at Chen Nan. “Hmph, I truly can’t imagine how the media racked their brains to fabricate all your scandalous affairs. How can any woman stand you? Look at your temper. If I were your family, I’d beat you up fiercely.”
“Ha! I didn’t realize you had violent tendencies.” Chen Nan’s tone was mocking. Seeing Jiang Yuetong’s expression soften slightly, Chen Nan cleared her throat and said, “Speaking of my ex-girlfriends, they were truly obedient. Even if I told them to get lost while I was eating, they had to leave immediately without daring to say a word.”
“Lunatic. You’re lying.” Jiang Yuetong stood up and left with her bag. Chen Nan hurriedly paid for both tables and followed her out.
Jiang Yuetong walked ahead. Chen Nan grabbed her hand, turned her around, and said seriously, “You are not allowed to go on blind dates or meet these shady men again. If your mother forces you to go, just bring me along. I can block them for you.”
“Sorry, that depends on my mood. There’s no clause in our agreement about me going on blind dates or not, so you have no right to restrict me, and I don’t have to agree to you. You don’t need to drive me home today. I’ll take the subway back myself. You’ve already ruined my mood. If I ride in your car again, I probably won’t be able to eat dinner. I’m not in a stage of losing weight; my figure is good enough.” With that, Jiang Yuetong walked away without looking back, leaving Chen Nan wanting to curse.
Chen Nan walked to her car, forcefully kicking a tire. “You don’t need me to drive you? Do you think I want to drive you? I’ve already delayed my business meeting for you. Do you think I have a lot of time! I ran over to protect you but was treated like an idiot. Women like you are truly despicable. Dating other men behind my back yet still being self-righteous, arguing back no matter what I say! Goddammit!” Chen Nan kicked the tire again before getting into the car.
When Chen Nan arrived at the agreed meeting location, the client had already left. She called and was told that they had waited too long for Chen Nan and were genuinely busy with work, so they would schedule for the next available time. This was essentially a polite farewell. This was the first time Chen Nan had ever delayed work because of a woman. But since her effort brought no reward and only caused her trouble, Chen Nan grew angrier the more she thought about it. Returning to the office, Chen Nan ignored all her subordinates’ greetings, walked into her room, and slammed the door shut.
“Did you see the manager’s livid face? Better be on your best behavior, or we won’t know when we’ll go home tonight,” Secretary Wu told everyone.
A female staff member said, “Our door is really sturdy. The manager didn’t close it lightly just now.”
No sooner had she spoken than they heard the sound of objects crashing to the floor inside the room. Chen Nan had actually smashed the limited-edition, crystal-studded mug she had just bought a few days ago. Although she didn’t have to worry about the cost since she used her grandfather’s card, the subordinates outside felt the pain.
“Manager Wu, don’t forget there’s a proposal that needs to be given to the manager…” someone kindly reminded him.
Manager Wu chuckled, saying, “Stop kidding me. You want me to go in now? You must want me to die quickly. Didn’t you see how angry the manager is? She’s like a bomb about to explode!”
The newly hired woman next to him said, “Compared to a bomb, I’m more afraid of our manager. The moment her face changes, I don’t even dare to speak.”
A week later, Chen Nan, who had composed herself, called Jiang Yuetong again. Waiting for Jiang Yuetong to call her was practically impossible. Based on Chen Nan’s understanding of Jiang Yuetong, she would never call her. So, no matter how fiercely they fought, Chen Nan still had to be the one to call Jiang Yuetong obediently.
However, Jiang Yuetong’s phone was turned off.
Impossible. It was past seven o’clock. Jiang Yuetong couldn’t possibly still be lazing in bed. Why would her phone be off?
Chen Nan called Jiang Yuetong’s landline, and her mother answered.
“Hello, is this Jiang Yuetong’s home? Is she there?” Although Chen Nan’s voice was not soft, Jiang’s mother could tell it was a woman’s voice, but she instinctively felt this woman was different, unlike any she had encountered before.
“She’s home, wait a minute.” Jiang’s mother put down the phone and called out, “Yuetong, your phone.”
Jiang Yuetong walked over lazily to answer. She hadn’t gotten out of bed yet. “Hello, who is it?”
“It’s me.”
Hearing Chen Nan’s voice, Jiang Yuetong’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. She frowned, moved the phone away from her ear, and glanced at it. It really was Chen Nan’s number.
“How do you know my home phone number?” Jiang Yuetong put the phone back to her ear and asked unhappily.
“Never mind that. Why is your phone off at this hour?” Chen Nan countered.
“It’s the weekend. Why should I turn it on? I want to sleep in,” Jiang Yuetong argued righteously.
Chen Nan said, “You know it’s the weekend. I didn’t even go to the company. I came to pick you up early this morning. Did you forget that today is the day we meet?” Chen Nan had lowered her voice, but an irrepressible anger was still evident.
“Oh…” Jiang Yuetong suddenly remembered, but still stubbornly insisted, “Uh… well… even so, no one arrives this early, right? Look what time it is. Only someone like you would be up at this hour, driving around on the street. Normal people are still sleeping.”
Chen Nan rubbed her temple and said coldly, “I don’t want to argue with you and ruin my mood this early in the morning. Come downstairs in ten minutes, or I’ll come and knock on your door.” With that, Chen Nan hung up the phone, leaving Jiang Yuetong frantic, yelling, “Ten minutes! Even an hour wouldn’t be enough!” With a shout, Jiang Yuetong darted back into her room and frantically searched for clothes. She absolutely could not let Chen Nan knock on her door. If her mother accidentally saw Chen Nan, it would definitely cause chaos. Even a person with no common sense would understand what was happening when they saw Chen Nan’s neutral style of dress.
Jiang’s mother watched Jiang Yuetong’s hurried figure, shook her head lightly, and went to do her own things.
“This one… no…”
“This one… no…”
“This one… no…”
In the blink of an eye, Jiang Yuetong’s bed became a sea of clothes. She remembered Chen Nan saying last time that she liked her Korean style of dressing, so Jiang Yuetong planned to wear that type again. She had already chosen an outfit in her mind, but now she couldn’t find it.
“What are you looking for?” Jiang’s mother walked in with a piece of clothing. “Is it this one?”
