A Paper Contract GL - Chapter 27
When Chen Nan called again, Jiang Yuetong’s phone was already turned off.
Half an hour later, Chen Nan arrived at Jiang Yuetong’s school, but it was empty, and the gate was tightly shut.
Chen Nan then went to Jiang Yuetong’s home. Although her mother looked at Chen Nan with a strange gaze, she didn’t say anything, only that Jiang Yuetong hadn’t come home yet and didn’t know where she had gone. After leaving Jiang Yuetong’s home, Chen Nan waited at the entrance of her apartment complex.
Unfortunately, Chen Nan waited until midnight but didn’t see Jiang Yuetong. Instead, her phone kept ringing; they were all calls from Shi Ya. Chen Nan set the phone to silent until the battery died and the phone turned off.
Jiang Yuetong didn’t go home all night; she stayed at her friend Li Qiong’s house. She guessed that Chen Nan might go to her house to look for her, so she simply didn’t go home.
It wasn’t until 2 a.m. that Chen Nan took a taxi home, feeling very upset. She didn’t understand why Jiang Yuetong wouldn’t give her a chance to explain.
Arriving at her doorstep, a white Mercedes C63 was parked in front of her house; it was the car Chen Nan had lent to Shi Ya to drive temporarily.
Chen Nan got out of the taxi and walked to the car. She couldn’t see anything through the heavy tinting film. She opened the door and saw Shi Ya asleep in the driver’s seat. Chen Nan’s action of opening the car door woke Shi Ya. She smiled at Chen Nan, “Running away halfway, pretending not to hear your phone and then rejecting calls, coming back lazily at two o’clock. Tell me, which beauty has captivated you so much?”
Chen Nan’s face was cold, “Why didn’t you go inside to sleep?”
“I’d need a key, wouldn’t I?” Shi Ya got out of the car and looped her arm through Chen Nan’s. Chen Nan took out the key and opened the door.
“You look like you’re in a very bad mood, what’s wrong? Which beauty made you unhappy?” Shi Ya smiled slightly, and as she leaned in, her two round br3asts pressed tightly against Chen Nan’s chest. Although Shi Ya’s cleavage wasn’t as prominent as Jiang Yuetong’s, it was big enough. Otherwise, Chen Nan wouldn’t have gone to great lengths to pursue her when she was in England.
Chen Nan did see the ample cleavage swaying in front of her eyes, but she gently pushed Shi Ya away and said, “I’m very tired today, I don’t want to talk much.” Saying that, Chen Nan dragged her tired feet toward the stairs, then turned her head back a moment later: “Wear less revealing clothes in the future. Didn’t you see those two dealers today constantly staring at your chest endlessly, just short of reaching out to touch them? If sexual harassment wasn’t punishable, they definitely would have done that. I also strongly resisted the urge to hit them. As a girl, you should be more careful in the future.”
Chen Nan turned her head, and Shi Ya suddenly said, “It seems you still care about me, don’t you? Such strong possessiveness, you won’t even let others look twice? Did you leave halfway today because you were jealous and angry? If that’s the reason, I can forgive you.”
Chen Nan didn’t turn back, saying, “That’s not possessiveness; it’s just speaking from the perspective of a good friend. Also, I left early today because I genuinely had something to attend to. The reason I agreed to go with you was that I was afraid you might feel awkward going alone. After all, I’m one of your partners; you can’t let people think that Shi Ya Fashion is being managed painstakingly by only one person. Furthermore, what I do doesn’t require anyone’s forgiveness. Forgiveness or no forgiveness, that’s other people’s business and has nothing to do with me.” After saying that, Chen Nan went into her room to wash and bathe.
Shi Ya stood rooted, coldly looking at the stairwell, her gaze not shifting for a long time, Chen Nan’s words lingering in her mind. After a long while, Shi Ya walked up the stairs, but didn’t go to the guest room; instead, she went straight to Chen Nan’s room.
Chen Nan had just finished showering and was about to lie down on the bed.
Shi Ya stood at the doorway, a faint smile creeping onto the corner of her mouth, “Chen Nan, you said that’s not possessiveness, but just speaking from the perspective of a good friend? You said we are good friends? Are we only good friends?”
Chen Nan sat on the sofa, lit a cigarette, and shook her head slightly, “If not good friends, then what are we? We were together, but we’ve been apart for so long now. I don’t believe you still love me, so ‘good friends’ is the best way for us to get along.”
Shi Ya stared intently at Chen Nan, the emotions in her eyes extremely complex. She kept her lips tightly sealed, only looking at Chen Nan, which made Chen Nan feel a bit uncomfortable.
Chen Nan shifted her body, lightly coughed, and said, “Yes, I promised your sister that I would always take care of you, and I also promised you that I would always love you. It was you who didn’t come back with me when I chose to return home. If you had come back with me, we should still be together now, but now so many years have passed, the feelings have faded, haven’t they?”
“That’s you!” Shi Ya’s voice suddenly became sharp, “The one who changed is you! I have never changed! No matter where I am, no matter what I am doing, I will always remember the vows you made to my sister and to me. No matter how much time has passed, no matter how long the interval, I will never forget! I hope you don’t forget either, Chen Nan.” After saying that, Shi Ya turned and left, slamming the door shut with a bang.
Chen Nan took a deep drag of her cigarette, held her hand to her forehead, and her head suddenly throbbed with a splitting headache. Scenes from England reappeared once again. The bloody and painful memories once again crawled into Chen Nan’s mind, just as they always did on so many nights over the years. Chen Nan hadn’t forgotten that scene, and she would never forget it… it was engraved in her heart.
Before the alarm clock went off, Jiang Yuetong was already sitting up. She had hardly slept all night, her sleep quality was terribly poor. The sky outside the window was still dark, and next to her, she could faintly hear Li Qiong’s shallow breathing. Jiang Yuetong lay back down, waiting for daylight.
She picked up her phone and turned it on. Text messages from Mobile Secretary (a mobile phone service) poured in one after another, and the phone vibrated non-stop, with missed calls and text messages.
Jiang Yuetong opened one text message, sent by Chen Nan: Yuetong, you won’t even listen to my explanation. I was late, and I apologize first, but I really squeezed out time to find you tonight. I originally had nothing planned, but suddenly I had to meet two clients. I couldn’t push it off. I had planned to just deal with it and leave, but I forgot to check the time. I’m truly sorry, and I’ll be mindful next time.
Seeing this message, Jiang Yuetong’s heart eased slightly. After a night had passed, she had also forgiven Chen Nan. The reason she had angrily hung up Chen Nan’s phone call yesterday wasn’t because she was angry at Chen Nan, but because she had been too worried about her earlier.
Finally, the sky brightened, estimated to be around 6:30 a.m. Jiang Yuetong turned over and got out of bed, putting on an extremely simple yet elegant blue camisole. The camisole had an asymmetrical design on both sides, one straight and one curved, making it very fashionable.
Jiang Yuetong drove to school, and the first class was hers. During the class, she accidentally turned her head and saw an extraordinarily familiar face appear at the glass of the front door.
Jiang Yuetong’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t quite describe the feeling, perhaps it was a pleasant surprise… Jiang Yuetong quickly turned her head and continued teaching, ignoring the person at the door.
Seeing that Jiang Yuetong didn’t pay attention to her, Chen Nan stood at the glass watching. However, Chen Nan’s patience seemed limited. She knocked on the door, peeked in, and said, “Teacher Jiang, I have something I need to talk to you about.”
Jiang Yuetong looked at Chen Nan but didn’t move her feet. All the students’ attention was successfully drawn to Chen Nan, and Jiang Yuetong’s face started to flush.
Seeing Jiang Yuetong distracted, the students kindly reminded her: Teacher Jiang, someone is calling you.
“Teacher Jiang, come out for a moment, I need to see you about something,” Chen Nan said politely and quietly again.
Jiang Yuetong was forced to put down her textbook and walked out.
“Are you still angry with me?” The moment Jiang Yuetong stepped out of the classroom door, Chen Nan immediately grabbed her hand.
Jiang Yuetong fiercely shook her hand off, “How did the gatekeeper let you in? School is not a place for just any random person to enter and exit.”
Chen Nan shrugged, “I said your mother was sick and hospitalized, and your phone couldn’t be reached, and the family was desperately anxious and asked me to find you. Oh, right, I said I was your sister. Do you think that’s an appropriate thing to say?”
Jiang Yuetong gritted her teeth and said, “Who allowed you to curse my mother!”
“It was just a white lie, don’t be so superstitious.” Chen Nan patted Jiang Yuetong’s head, an intimate gesture.
Just at that moment, Li Haitao happened to walk by. He was on his way to the printing room to print the monthly exam papers.
Jiang Yuetong turned away, ignoring Chen Nan.
Chen Nan put her arms around her waist from behind, “I’m sorry, didn’t you see my text message this morning? I’ve already explained it to you, won’t you forgive me yet? Yesterday, I really didn’t do it on purpose. Because I promised to pick you up at 6, and my appointment with the clients started at 5. Besides me, there was also one of my partners. I planned to slip away unnoticed at 6, and my partner could handle things there, and I would just come to pick you up for dinner. I didn’t expect the time to pass while we were talking, and with the noisy music there, I didn’t hear my phone ring.”
Jiang Yuetong was no longer angry. She pulled Chen Nan’s hands away from her waist and said, “This is school, there are cameras all around. Can you please be more careful!”
Li Haitao watched this flirtatious scene from not far away, and the fire of jealousy burned fiercely in his heart, as if his own woman was being touched by someone else. Li Haitao looked at Chen Nan with hostility. Li Haitao had shamelessly regarded Jiang Yuetong as his woman, which in fact was not the case at all.
“Don’t be angry anymore, okay?” Chen Nan quickly kissed Jiang Yuetong on the lips, “I didn’t mean it, and I promise I won’t make the same mistake next time!”
Jiang Yuetong’s face was flushed red. She turned her head away and said, “Forget it, just make sure there’s no next time.”
Chen Nan whispered in Jiang Yuetong’s ear, “Does your downstairs still hurt?”
Jiang Yuetong looked up in confusion, “Ah? What downstairs?” The next second, Jiang Yuetong realized that she was referring to her private part (implied). Chen Nan’s thoughts were too jumpy; how could she be apologizing one second and thinking about this the next!
Jiang Yuetong hit her with a soft, embarrassed punch, “What nonsense are you talking about! It doesn’t hurt anymore…” Jiang Yuetong lowered her head.
“Then when can we do it again…” Chen Nan’s eyes sparkled, looking exactly like the Gray Wolf (from a cartoon) who was rubbing his paws, ready to eat the little lamb.
“Do what again! You are too vulgar! I’m ignoring you, I’m going back to class.” Jiang Yuetong walked toward the classroom.
“Wait a minute,” Chen Nan pulled Jiang Yuetong’s hand, “Lunch together?”
Jiang Yuetong smiled faintly with her back to Chen Nan, “Aren’t you very busy? If you’re busy, go be busy. It’s still a while until I get off work.”
