A Paper Contract GL - Chapter 36
Jiang Yuetong nodded.
The Doberman, Luna, dodged Chen Nan’s petting hand, and let out a disgruntled whine at Jiang Yuetong, like a resentful woman. When Jiang Yuetong looked at it, it deliberately turned its head away, refusing to look at her.
“Luna, are you mad? I’m sorry. I was supposed to eat the things I bought with you,” Jiang Yuetong cajoled, then crouched down to be at eye level with Chen Nan, “But I suddenly ran into your sister here. Her name is Chen Nan, and we ate cake together.”
Chen Nan lowered her voice and playfully rebuked, “Who is its sister? You are.”
Jiang Yuetong chuckled.
Chen Nan suddenly stood up and ran to the car, opened the trunk, took out a lot of snacks, and then walked to the Doberman, Luna, tearing open the packages one by one and giving them to it. Chen Nan gently held Luna’s front paw. Perhaps won over by the snacks, Luna obediently allowed Chen Nan to pet it without resistance.
“Yuetong, are you back?”
“Oh no, it’s Mom’s voice.” Jiang Yuetong nervously picked up the Doberman, Luna, and pushed Chen Nan away, “Hurry and go. My mom is here.”
“I’ll go then,” Chen Nan said, fleeing like a thief.
Jiang Yuetong held the dog and went home.
From a distance, Shi Ya watched everything from inside her car.
She had followed Chen Nan’s car hours ago, and she saw everything. Shi Ya couldn’t remember how many times she had shed tears tonight. Whenever she saw Chen Nan and Jiang Yuetong being intimate, her tears would fall involuntarily, shattering on the ground. She really wanted to go up and tear the smile off Jiang Yuetong’s face, because she didn’t deserve Chen Nan’s love. Only she, Shi Ya, who had sacrificed everything, including her sister, deserved Chen Nan’s love.
Shi Ya alternated between crying and laughing, her heart aching, her expression twisted in pain. She bit her lip, not wanting to cry out loud, but she couldn’t stop. Her sister’s face kept reappearing in her mind. Even though she usually didn’t think about it, whenever she was this sad, she would remember her sister.
Chen Nan had just gotten into her car and driven about a hundred meters out of Jiang Yuetong’s residential area when her phone rang. Chen Nan looked at the caller ID; it was Jiang Yuetong.
Chen Nan’s voice was full of affection, “What is it?”
Jiang Yuetong murmured, “I suddenly feel a little sad.”
“Why is that?” Chen Nan turned down the car music.
“Because… I’m always so happy with you. I find myself liking you more and more, and I’m especially afraid of losing you,” Jiang Yuetong said, tossing and turning in bed.
Chen Nan kissed the phone, “Don’t overthink it. It won’t happen. I won’t leave you.”
The next morning, Jiang Yuetong arrived at the office.
Li Haitao had already diligently filled her water cup with water, added chrysanthemum tea, and wiped down Jiang Yuetong’s desk and chair until they were spotless. Although Jiang Yuetong had told Li Haitao many times to stop doing these things, concerned that other teachers would notice, Li Haitao continued to do it selflessly and without complaint.
It was not yet 7:30 a.m., and the teachers were preparing for class in the office.
Several female teachers were gathered around Liu Xiuli, listening to her talk about the new diamond ring she had been given.
“Well, that man has pursued me many times, and he’s sent countless pieces of jewelry like this. But I told him I don’t like men like him, yet he still insists on sending gifts. What can I do?” Liu Xiuli said with a forced smile, showing off the ring. Her face was so irritating that it made people want to hit her.
Jiang Yuetong glanced over and then got back to her own work. She was not in the mood to listen to such trivial matters.
A teacher asked curiously, “This diamond ring is so big. How many carats is it? It must be over ten carats, right?”
Liu Xiuli looked arrogant, holding the diamond ring up high and examining it in the sunlight. She said, “It’s probably just average. It’s alright, not too big.”
“Not big! It’s huge…”
“Exactly, exactly…”
Listening to these echoes, Liu Xiuli subtly glanced at Li Haitao and Jiang Yuetong. She was disappointed and annoyed that neither of them was looking at her.
At 7:30 a.m., the school bell rang, and the teachers hurried off to their classrooms with their teaching materials.
Jiang Yuetong was rummaging through her things for a pile of graded test papers, and she left a few minutes late. When she left, Liu Xiuli was the only one left in the office.
After the first class ended, the teachers were drinking water and resting in the office when they heard a sharp scream from Liu Xiuli, “Ah! My diamond ring is missing! My diamond ring is missing!”
The teachers were all surprised and exchanged glances, saying, “How could that be? It seems everyone went to class for the first period; no one was left in the room, right?”
Liu Xiuli looked around at everyone and said, “My diamond ring couldn’t just disappear into thin air, could it? Is it possible that one of our teachers has sticky fingers?”
Li Haitao spoke first, “Don’t talk nonsense. It’s most important to check your own bag first. This is not something to joke about; you could offend everyone.”
Liu Xiuli didn’t even search and directly said, “My diamond ring is missing, not yours! It’s easy for you to say! Do you know how much that one stone is worth? You probably couldn’t afford it if you worked here your whole life. I’m not being dramatic; anyone in my position wouldn’t be so calm, right? Besides, who did I offend? Who do you think I would offend? If I offended anyone, it would be the thief! I’m only targeting that person. Didn’t someone post something at the school gate a few days ago, saying such terrible things? There’s no smoke without fire. Someone must have done something wrong to be named and exposed like that. Alas, it’s a pity. That person still has the audacity to continue teaching classes. If it were me, I would definitely hide at home and die rather than come out. I would be completely disgraced.”
Jiang Yuetong’s face flushed and paled. She looked coldly at Liu Xiuli and said, “Teacher Liu, are you implying that I am the person? I don’t think I have any quarrel with you, so why are you being so sarcastic? I’m telling you, even the principal said it was a rumor. What’s the point of you still saying these things?”
Liu Xiuli turned her head and glared fiercely at Jiang Yuetong, “That was just the principal covering for you. We all believe that what was written there is true.”
Jiang Yuetong’s gaze swept over her harshly, and she said in a hostile tone, “Teacher Liu, whether what was written there is true or not, what does it have to do with your lost ring? Why aren’t you hurrying to find your ring? What are you gossiping about here?”
The harsh, unpleasant words from Liu Xiuli slammed down, “If someone stole it, they must have hidden it. Where am I supposed to look for it? Will it be on the floor? If the ring was stolen, it would be something done by people with questionable morals anyway. Since they’re already shameless, what does it matter if they do a few more shameless things?”
“You!” Jiang Yuetong stood up, slamming her hand on the table, her face completely red as she looked at Liu Xiuli.
Li Haitao couldn’t stand it anymore and quickly interjected, “Liu Xiuli, stop slandering people. Can you say something reasonable? Look at yourself; do you still have the composure of a teacher?”
Liu Xiuli turned her head to look at Li Haitao, growing even angrier, “Am I wronging her? Fine, ask her to open her bag and let everyone take a look. If it’s not hers, then I will apologize to her.”
“Fine,” Li Haitao said. “Jiang Yuetong, just open it and let her see. Let’s see what else she has to say.”
Jiang Yuetong secretly thought, This doesn’t feel right. Why does this seem like a trap… Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do now but open her bag. Jiang Yuetong held her phone and quickly sent a text message to Chen Nan with only three words: Hurry and come.
“Are you afraid to open it?” Liu Xiuli said coldly.
Jiang Yuetong’s expression darkened, and she didn’t move, just staring intently at Liu Xiuli.
Liu Xiuli walked over quickly, grabbed Jiang Yuetong’s bag, opened it directly, and started rummaging through it, “Feeling guilty now?”
Jiang Yuetong tried to stop Liu Xiuli, saying, “What right do you have to rummage through my things? You…”
Liu Xiuli pushed Jiang Yuetong’s hand away with great force, nearly making Jiang Yuetong fall. Glaring at Jiang Yuetong, she angrily said, “If you’re not a thief, what’s there to be afraid of when I look through your things?”
Jiang Yuetong was speechless and only said, “Fine, go ahead and search. If you don’t find anything, you’ll have to give me a good explanation…” Before her voice faded, the class bell rang, but all the teachers remained seated, not a single one moving.
It wasn’t in the bag. Liu Xiuli threw Jiang Yuetong’s bag onto the floor and started searching Jiang Yuetong’s desk drawers. Soon, the tidy office desk was a mess. “I don’t believe I won’t find it.” She said this, and in a corner of the lowest drawer, she discovered something sparkling.
“Oh! Look what this is! Let everyone see what this is!” Liu Xiuli held the ring up high and shouted, “Jiang Yuetong not only likes to seduce people, but she also likes to steal things,” She turned and looked at Jiang Yuetong, “You have a really unique hobby, Teacher Jiang!”
A cold glint gradually appeared in Jiang Yuetong’s eyes, and then her emotions became somewhat agitated. She grabbed Liu Xiuli’s arm and said, “It’s not me! Someone is framing me! I didn’t steal your things, I didn’t!”
“Haha! That’s rich. Caught red-handed, what more excuses do you have? Besides, there’s no camera here,” Liu Xiuli was overjoyed and reckless.
Jiang Yuetong’s heart trembled slightly. What did Liu Xiuli’s words mean?
At this time, more and more people gathered, all wanting to see what was happening. Before long, the Dean of Students also arrived. Liu Xiuli loudly recounted everything that had happened. The teachers’ eyes on Jiang Yuetong became increasingly strange. Even though the two consecutive incidents were indeed someone framing Jiang Yuetong, a lie told a thousand times becomes the truth. The teachers believed that the consecutive incidents were not baseless accusations. So, unconsciously, people who originally had a very good impression of Jiang Yuetong also began to lower their evaluation of her.
After the Dean of Students arrived, he said, “Teacher Liu, don’t yell and shout so loudly for now. Whether Jiang Yuetong stole it or not, we will give you an answer.”
Liu Xiuli looked at the Dean of Students, her eyebrows almost standing on end. She was the type of person who wouldn’t let anyone off when she had the upper hand. Since the ring was found in Jiang Yuetong’s area in front of everyone, she wanted to make a huge fuss about it first. “Dean, why are you always taking Jiang Yuetong’s side? You haven’t been seduced by her too, have you?”
