A Paper Contract GL - Chapter 4
Chen Nan nodded, “Yes, I am a woman. When did I ever say I was a man? Besides, I don’t look like a man. Have you ever seen a man this handsome and this clean-cut? Getting it wrong just shows that you are dim-sighted and lack experience.”
Today, Chen Nan was wearing a crisp white-collar suit, a classic Chanel-style jacket, with the entire outfit in a unified color tone. The piped trim on the placket and collar made the silhouette clear and defined. In fact, just based on the design, it was clearly women’s clothing.
“You two haven’t made a mistake… you… want me to marry a woman?” Jiang Yuetong truly couldn’t hold it together. “There is absolutely no possibility of me marrying you. I am not a LES, nor do I want to be one. Furthermore, even if I were, I wouldn’t choose someone with such an arrogant and nasty personality as yours.”
“Ha!” Chen Nan sneered, thinking to herself: there are too many women crying and shouting to be with her; she has seen, touched, and experienced too many beauties. Who does this woman in front of her think she is, so shamelessly saying she doesn’t want to marry her? Why doesn’t she ask if Chen Nan is willing to marry her?!
Chen Nan said, “Oh, you say that now? Then why didn’t you make it clear that you wouldn’t marry a woman when you were seducing my grandfather? I’ve seen too many people like you. You have no real feelings; you just get with whoever has the most money, right? Now you’re acting like an innocent young girl.”
Jiang Yuetong raised an eyebrow and said, “I told you, I don’t know your grandfather.” She smiled slightly, changing her tone: “However, your grandfather truly is a very clever elder. I finally understand why he did this. Because he is very clear that I would never marry you, and therefore, you won’t get a penny of the family fortune. But then again, if I were your grandfather, I wouldn’t give the family fortune to you either!”
Jiang Yuetong saw Chen Nan’s bad temper and figured she might as well make her angry—it would be great if she got furious.
Chen Nan was indeed very angry, her eyes spitting fire as she looked at Jiang Yuetong. In fact, Chen Nan hadn’t expected things to develop so badly, and she was very clear about her grandfather’s personality. It didn’t look like her grandfather was joking. If she really had to marry Jiang Yuetong to get the inheritance, what should she do? The thought made Chen Nan even more annoyed. If Jiang Yuetong was the gentle, submissive type of girl, it would be easy to handle, but she clearly looked like a sharp-tongued, intelligent, and independent girl who wouldn’t be ordered around or told what to do.
Jiang Yuetong glanced at the clock on the wall and said, “I have a class to teach soon, so I can’t stay here and chat about these boring issues with you two. Because your grandfather is still alive, isn’t he? A will can’t be implemented in the short term, and the terrifying idea of marriage is even more absurd. Therefore, neither the will nor the shares have anything to do with me. You two should go back to your business.” With that, Jiang Yuetong stood up and left, leaving the two people, Chen Nan and Zhang Manyang, looking at each other in bewilderment.
Zhang Manyang quietly said to Chen Nan, “It looks like Jiang Yuetong really doesn’t know about this matter.”
Chen Nan took out a cigarette and lit it, regardless of whether they were in a classroom. She desperately needed something to soothe her feeling, which was as uncomfortable as having swallowed a dead fly. “Are you fooled by that clever fox-spirit-like woman too? I won’t believe a single word she says. That stuff about the will and shares having nothing to do with her—I don’t believe it. The more she says that, the more I believe she only has eyes for our family’s money.”
“But, judging by her expression, she seemed very surprised. It doesn’t look like she was faking it, does it?” Zhang Manyang shook his head. “If she was faking it, then she’s the best actress around.”
Chen Nan said, “Come on. Didn’t you see how she spoke, babbling like she was reciting a draft? Have you ever seen someone speak so fluently?”
“But what she said sounded very genuine. Maybe we should believe her,” Zhang Manyang defended Jiang Yuetong.
Chen Nan scoffed, “Nonsense. Genuine? Didn’t you see her eyes? They didn’t yield to me once. That kind of woman is not as simple as you imagine. You, you have the same fate as my grandfather—you’ve both been fooled by this articulate woman.”
Zhang Manyang stood up, preparing to leave. “But on a side note. This woman is quite good-looking.” As he spoke, he didn’t forget to raise an eyebrow.
Chen Nan gave him a disgusted look.
Jiang Yuetong finished class and was walking home, but she kept thinking about today’s events and was a bit distracted, almost getting hit by a speeding car.
Fortunately, Jiang Yuetong’s super good friend, Li Qiong, happened to pass by and called out to her, preventing a major accident.
“What’s wrong with you? You look so preoccupied,” Li Qiong asked Jiang Yuetong with a smile.
Jiang Yuetong thought for a moment. She definitely couldn’t tell her family about today’s incident, otherwise, her parents would worry that she had encountered some bad person. Although her impression of Chen Nan wasn’t good, she didn’t want people to think of her as a criminal. So, Jiang Yuetong decided to talk to her good friend, otherwise, it would be too depressing. “Something interesting happened at school today.” Jiang Yuetong’s expression was quite adorable as she recalled the event.
“What happened? Did a student in your class say they were going to get married and that they’d marry you when they grow up?” Li Qiong teased.
Jiang Yuetong smiled slightly, her face a little shy, and she seemed unsure where to start, afraid that Li Qiong wouldn’t believe her if she spoke. “Sort of. But it wasn’t a student in my class. It was… a woman who suddenly ran over and said she wanted to marry me.”
“Are you… sick?” Li Qiong touched Jiang Yuetong’s forehead. “A woman? How is that possible?”
“Actually, she looked pretty good, very handsome. A bit like the Chris Lee (Chun Chun) I like. In short, that type, maybe even a little more handsome than Chris Lee,” Jiang Yuetong recalled.
“No way? Is she as handsome as Chris Lee?” Li Qiong started gushing. As soon as Chris Lee was mentioned, she forgot about Jiang Yuetong’s story about the woman who wanted to marry her, because she and Jiang Yuetong shared a common idol, Li Yuchun. If someone said someone was as handsome as Chris Lee, Li Qiong would gush for a while.
“That’s enough with you. I knew you’d be like this if I brought it up,” Jiang Yuetong gently pushed Li Qiong’s head. She said, “Have you heard of Tianqi Group?”
“Of course! Which Guangzhou person hasn’t? Are you kidding me? Do you think I’m an elementary school student?” Li Qiong gave Jiang Yuetong a look. “Who are you talking about? Is she from that group?”
“Yes, she’s the granddaughter of the Tianqi Group founder, named Chen Nan,” Jiang Yuetong said.
“Really?” Li Qiong looked a little disbelieving.
Jiang Yuetong smiled, “I don’t know if it’s true, but she said she’s the granddaughter of the Tianqi Group founder.”
“Then… what did they talk to you about?” Li Qiong asked.
Jiang Yuetong briefly summarized today’s conversation. Li Qiong thought for a moment and said, “They aren’t scammers, are they? There are a lot of scammers these days, you have to be careful. Some people don’t just lose money, but also their bodies… It’s terrifying. Haven’t you seen the Urban Express News? There are often stories like that.”
Jiang Yuetong nodded, feeling Li Qiong made a lot of sense. “Yes, I’m afraid they might be scammers too, which is why I didn’t dare tell my parents. Besides, marrying a woman—my family would never agree. Even though Chen Nan is handsome, she is a woman after all, and that’s a fact that can’t be changed. Furthermore, I can’t quite believe someone would just want to share their family fortune with me for no reason. If the company shares are all to be given to me, that would be a huge sum of money, a sum too large for me to even imagine.”
“No way. You haven’t been reading too many novels and having fantasies, have you?” Li Qiong teased. Even now, she couldn’t fully believe what Jiang Yuetong said, because it was almost like a pie falling from the sky—not only was she being offered a billion-dollar fortune, but also a beautiful girl comparable to Chris Lee. Why didn’t something so good happen to her? Who could bear to refuse such a thing?
“No. Actually, thinking about it, that Chen Nan looks quite good, it’s just her temper is too bad, like a fire dragon who wants to eat me.” Jiang Yuetong messed with her curly, long hair. “Oh, right, her mouth is toxic too. She even called me a ‘fox spirit’ who seduced her grandfather or something.”
“Stop it. If you’re a fox spirit, then there’s no one in this world who could be called kind.” Li Qiong took Jiang Yuetong’s hand and walked in the direction of home.
For a few days, nothing else happened to make Jiang Yuetong frantic. Finally, the weekend arrived, and her mother had arranged another blind date. However, Jiang Yuetong mostly just went through the motions. Honestly, she couldn’t see anything appealing in those candidates, although they all seemed to like Jiang Yuetong. Unfortunately, love can’t be made with only one side liking the other.
Originally, the blind dates arranged by her mother would have taken up her entire weekend, but Jiang Yuetong insisted on having Saturday afternoon free, because she already had an arrangement, and this arrangement was fixed. Jiang Yuetong had to go see a person on the last Saturday afternoon of every month.
“I’m sorry, I’m late.” Jiang Yuetong hurried to the meeting spot with a smile on her face.
The person Jiang Yuetong was meeting wasn’t handsome or young, but an old man with a wrinkled face and white hair.
“Grandpa, have you been waiting long? The weather in Guangzhou is so hot today.” Because the meeting place was a pavilion in a park, the air around them was fresh, and there weren’t many people. Jiang Yuetong wasn’t entirely sure what the name of the ‘Grandpa’ she called him was. Ever since the last time she helped him pick up fruit in the subway and carried his heavy bags to put him on the bus, the two had exchanged phone numbers and become friends, arranging to meet every month until now.
“I just arrived too,” Grandpa smiled slightly, looking very happy. Jiang Yuetong was someone who could make people happy, so her friends and family also tended to smile when they saw her.
“I was afraid you’d be angry about waiting so long,” Jiang Yuetong giggled, truly like an adorable child.
“Angry? What’s ‘angry’? Do I look like the type to get angry?” The old man even made a funny face. Although it wasn’t as exaggerated as a child’s funny face, it was still very amusing.
Jiang Yuetong giggled. “Alright, to apologize, let me treat you to something delicious. What would you like to eat, Grandpa?”
“What do you want to treat me to?” The old man revealed an eager expression.
