- Episode 2.11 - "Kaede-chan, Your Hands Are Warm"
Monday, May 30
Today, I had plans to have lunch with Mizuhara, but unfortunately, the student council’s tasks stretched into our lunch break. When I informed Mizuhara, the only response I got was a short and cold “Got it.”
As I silently copied handouts while munching on a sweet bun, I realized there were only a few minutes left before the chime rang.
Rushing down the hallway, I nearly ran into Chisato Wakumura, who was stumbling out of the classroom. Class was about to start—what was she doing?
“Hey, are you okay? Not feeling well?”
Wakamatsu turned back and called out to Wakumura, who was heading toward the stairs.
“Oh, Kaede-chan,” she said, her face brightening for a moment. But Wakamatsu was surprised—her usually healthy complexion was completely pale.
“Wait, I’ll go with you to the infirmary.”
“Sorry… I think it’s just anemia…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Wakumura’s body suddenly gave out.
Just in time, Wakamatsu caught her, preventing her from collapsing. Supporting her gently to avoid hurting her, Wakamatsu helped her sit on the landing, letting her lean against the wall.
“Can you walk to the infirmary?”
“…I think so. It’s probably because of my period…”
“Yeah, periods can be really rough, huh?”
Wakamatsu brushed Wakumura’s hair aside with a finger and placed a hand on her forehead.
She felt a little warm, but that was expected during her period.
Even though Wakumura said she could walk, her pale face made Wakamatsu worry. Calling a teacher crossed her mind, but since she was confident in her strength and the infirmary wasn’t far, she decided to carry Wakumura instead.
“Seriously, it’s fine! I feel bad!” Wakumura protested, but Wakamatsu ignored her resistance and carried her straight to the infirmary.
Along the way, Wakamatsu asked a passing classmate to inform the teacher that she would be late.
Unfortunately, the infirmary’s nurse was out.
After settling Wakumura onto the bed, Wakamatsu watched as the color gradually returned to her face. She crouched by her feet, smoothing out the wrinkles in her blouse that had formed while carrying her.
“Sorry, Kaede-chan.”
“Why are you apologizing?”
Looking up with a smile, Wakamatsu met Wakumura’s gaze—her cheeks were flushed red.
Her round, captivating eyes were full of life again.
“I’ll go call the teacher.”
“Ah, wait.”
Just as Wakamatsu stood up, Wakumura grabbed the hem of her uniform.
Her head was down, making it impossible to see her expression, but she held on silently.
Wakamatsu couldn’t bring herself to shake her off. Instead, she gently wrapped her hand around Wakumura’s and sat down beside her.
“Sorry for suddenly grabbing you…”
“It’s fine. Want to chat until the teacher comes?”
With that, Wakamatsu smiled.
Apparently, periods not only affect the body but also emotions. What she learned from Mizuhara, she could now use to help another friend.
When Wakumura mentioned her stomach hurt, Wakamatsu had her lie down on the bed and gently rubbed her lower abdomen, just as she had done for Mizuhara before.
“Kaede-chan, your hands are so warm.”
“Oh, Mizuhara said the same thing.”
“Mizuhara-san…?”
Sitting beside the bed, Wakamatsu continued to warm Wakumura’s stomach. Unlike Mizuhara’s soft, feminine tummy, Wakumura’s body was surprisingly toned—just like Wakamatsu’s.
As they enjoyed the quiet, peaceful moment, the door finally opened, and the nurse walked in.
Hurriedly standing up, Wakamatsu explained the situation.
“Good work. And you are…?”
“I’m Kaede Wakamatsu, from the same class as Wakumura.”
“Oh, so you’re Wakamatsu.”
The school nurse, Ms. Sato, lifted her head with a knowing look.
Wakamatsu had never really visited the infirmary before, so she was surprised by the familiarity in the nurse’s tone. Sensing the confusion, Ms. Sato smiled.
“Thank you for taking care of Mizuhara.”
“You mean Mizuhara Shizuku?”
“Yes. She seems to rely on you a lot.”
Wakamatsu frowned slightly.
“Really? Mizuhara never says things like that to me.”
“I wish I could share some of the things she’s said in the infirmary.”
Ms. Sato let out a refined chuckle.
“What did Mizuhara say?”
“Fufu, you’ll have to ask her yourself. My lips are sealed.”
“Aw, come on, just tell me.”
No matter how much Wakamatsu pouted, Ms. Sato only smiled and refused to spill anything.
Realizing it was pointless, Wakamatsu left the infirmary.
Back in class, her chemistry teacher, Mr. Sakamoto, simply said, “Good job.”
As she returned to her seat, she noticed some classmates grinning at her. She glanced over at Mizuhara, but she was just staring at the blackboard, looking uninterested.
She acted so composed… but what exactly had she been saying in the infirmary?
I’ll ask her directly next time.
With that thought, Wakamatsu smirked slightly and took her seat.
