- A Pretty Girl Has Her First Kiss Stolen By an Equally Handsome Classmate
- Episode 4.8 - “Is it okay if I take Kaede-chan away from you?”
Wednesday, October 5
“This is the event guide for the school trip!”
“Each class, please choose two people to be school trip committee members!”
A student council member wearing an armband stood at the teacher’s desk before the morning homeroom started.
Student council members, who plan and run events, come into the classroom wearing armbands whenever there’s something to announce.
“It’s inside the country this year?”
“I heard last year’s seniors caused some trouble.”
“Ugh, what bad luck.”
The students talked freely while looking at the event guide posted on the whiteboard. Just hearing the words “school trip” made her stomach tighten. Shizuku Mizuhara quietly sighed.
“This is bad, this is bad, this is really bad!”
Wakamatsu came running into the noisy classroom, fixing her messy hair as she sat down.
She wiped her whole face with a hand towel and opened her collar to cool down. Shizuku thought about telling her classmate behind her that she was being too careless, but decided it wasn’t her business and let it go.
“Kaede-chan, it’s dangerous if you open your shirt like that.”
Wakumura, who sat in front of Wakamatsu, gently warned her.
“It’s fine, it’s fine!”
“No… it’s not okay.”
Her collar was open enough to show her collarbone. How could that be okay?
Wakumura gave a small, awkward smile as she reached out and buttoned up Wakamatsu’s shirt.
Their closeness bothered Shizuku, but she pretended not to notice and looked forward.
“Did you oversleep today?”
“The school trip work is so tough, I fell asleep while doing it.”
“Is it harder than the class match?”
Wakamatsu fanned herself with her notebook.
“Of course. The school trip is run only by second-year students.”
“First-years don’t help?”
“They help a bit, but they don’t come along on the trip or anything.”
Of course, only the grade going on the trip participates. It made sense that the second-years would have more to do.
“They just said they’re looking for school trip committee members.”
“Yeah, we need help with guiding each class and stuff. There aren’t enough people.”
“Maybe I’ll volunteer.”
“Oh! That would be amazing!”
Wakamatsu put her hands together and thanked Wakumura.
As Shizuku listened to their conversation, their homeroom teacher, Mr. Fuchigami, came in and started the morning meeting. Wakamatsu raised her hand and asked for time to choose the school trip committee members. The teacher agreed, and as a student council member, she stood at the teacher’s desk.
“Does anyone want to be on the school trip committee?”
Just like she said earlier, Chisato Wakumura raised her hand first. Then Kanzaki, who was also excited about helping, and her boyfriend Masuda followed. Surprisingly, there were too many volunteers.
“Then maybe I’ll back out…”
“What? No way! Let’s talk it over!”
The two girls who raised their hands started talking to each other.
Mr. Fuchigami checked the time and said, “Let’s finish this during the afternoon homeroom,” ending the talk for now.
“Well, two girls will be fine anyway.”
Wakamatsu, now sitting down, kindly said this to Wakumura, who sat right in front of her.
“Shizuku-chan, you’re not going to be on the school trip committee?”
During lunch, just as she was eating a chocolate brownie, a classmate sitting next to her asked. She nodded while chewing.
“Why not?”
“Because I already felt satisfied helping with the sports festival, I guess.”
Shizuku gave a random reason and took another bite.
“Kaede-chan has someone she likes.”
Her heart jumped.
“The person she turned down said that’s what she told them.”
“…Is it okay to tell me that?”
“Yeah, it’s going to go around as a rumor anyway.”
Shizuku’s heart kept racing.
“Who do you think Kaede-chan likes?”
“I wonder… who could it be?”
She felt a little guilty but pretended not to know anything.
She couldn’t talk about them here. Even if Kaede thought she was hiding it, Wakumura probably had special feelings for Wakamatsu too.
“Hey! Don’t just eat brownies—eat real food!”
“Shut up.”
Wakamatsu came back from the store and called out right away.
“Here, have this yakisoba bread.”
“I’m fine, really.”
“Look! I even got curry bread!”
Wakamatsu laid her “treasures” out on Shizuku’s desk.
She couldn’t keep getting food from her like this. Even leftovers would be fine—she’d go to the store herself. Shizuku stood up and told Wakamatsu she’d buy something herself.
Right after, Chisato Wakumura also stood up from her seat.
“I’m going too. Let’s go together.”
“Eh? You’re not going to eat the yakisoba bread?”
Leaving Wakamatsu behind holding the bread, Shizuku and Wakumura stepped out into the hallway and walked to the shop near the first-floor entrance.
“I know everything about you and Kaede-chan.”
Shizuku almost missed a step on the stairs in shock. She turned to Wakumura without pretending.
Looking at her face, Shizuku could tell she wasn’t lying.
“That you were dating… and that now, you’re not.”
“…Since when…?”
“Even if someone else takes her, don’t cry, okay?”
“What?”
The sudden words shook her.
“Hey, Shizuku-chan.”
Wakumura leaned in close and whispered near her ear. The sweet scent of fragrant olive flowers tickled her nose.
“Is it okay if I take Kaede-chan away from you?”
Shiny lips with pink lipstick caught her eye.
When she looked up, she met Wakumura’s serious gaze. In those big eyes, she could see strong feelings. It made Shizuku feel scared.
“I’ll spend more time with Kaede-chan, and show her how I feel more and more.”
“One day, I’ll become the person Kaede-chan loves.”
Shizuku was too shaken to know if those words were true or not. She couldn’t say anything and just froze.
“Is that really okay with you, Shizuku-chan?”
Wakumura asked with a troubled face.
“…No.”
She didn’t say it out loud.
But clearly, Shizuku Mizuhara heard her own heart answer.
