A Rough Man Has A Handsome Husband (BL) - Chapter 6
When Zhao Xiangbei pushed open the door and stepped out to greet the Tang family members getting off the ox cart, his face was once again filled with honest simplicity.
“Father, Mother, Xiaofu is awake. He looks much better. You two should go check on him.”
Tang Xiaofu was leaning against the bed, just finishing sorting out his thoughts when he suddenly heard a rush of hurried footsteps. The next moment, someone threw themselves onto his bed.
“My son! You’re finally awake! You nearly scared me to death! If you were gone, how could your father and I go on living?”
This must be the original body’s biological mother—Li Shulan.
Li Shulan was a petite woman, dressed in a deep green short robe made of coarse fabric. She had an oval face and almond-shaped eyes, bearing a strong resemblance to Tang Xiaofu.
There were strands of white in her hair, and a silver hairpin was tucked into her bun.
She looked to be in her forties, with fine lines at the corners of her eyes and forehead, yet it was easy to tell that she had been a beauty in her youth.
The good looks of this body mostly came from his mother.
Tang Xiaofu was completely stunned as Li Shi hugged him tightly. His shoulder and neck were soon soaked with her tears. He looked helplessly at the others for help.
Tang Father stood with tightly pressed lips. He was a tall man, his stern presence marking him as the strict head of the family. But at this moment, even his eyes were slightly red as he looked at Tang Xiaofu with concern.
“Fuer, how could you do something so foolish?”
Tang Xiaofu sighed and patted Li Shi’s back in comfort.
His small room was packed full of people.
Such heavy, overwhelming love.
Standing beside the old master of the Tang family was a man in a dark blue robe with a refined, scholarly air—this was the eldest son of the Tang family. Since childhood, he had studied under a teacher and now worked as an accountant at the Drunken Immortal Restaurant in the county.
Beside him stood a person in a light blue robe, their belly slightly rounded—it was the eldest son’s wife, Wang Yi, a fair-skinned ger.
Tang Xiaofu had never seen a pregnant ger before, so he couldn’t help but take a second look.
Wang Yi rested a hand on his belly, his face pale. He stood quietly behind his husband, not saying much.
Squeezed in right beside Tang Xiaofu’s bed was a burly, dark-skinned man—this was the second son of the Tang family. His voice was ridiculously loud, nearly making everyone’s ears ache.
“Fuer, was it that Lin fellow who bullied you? I’ll go break his legs right now!”
Tang Father, annoyed by the noise, raised a hand and smacked him on the head.
“Stop talking nonsense! Our family has nothing to do with that Lin fellow!”
Tang Xiaofu rubbed his ears, overwhelmed by the crowd. Noticing Wang Yi’s unwell expression, he quickly spoke up.
“Mother, I’m fine. You all traveled a long way here. Sister-in-law is carrying a child—you should all go rest first.”
The Tang family’s elderly couple had rushed to town in a panic to get a doctor, which had frightened the eldest son’s family so much that they hurried over as well.
Li Shulan, worried about her unborn grandchild, quickly shooed everyone else out of the room.
But she remained, her eyes filled with tears as she gazed at Tang Xiaofu.
Left with no choice, he repeated what he had told Zhao Xiangbei earlier.
However, this time, he deliberately left out the part about being pushed into the river. Instead, he claimed that he had simply slipped and fallen into the water.
He even raised his hand and swore to the heavens that he would never try to take his own life.
Li Shulan’s eyes were still full of tears. Tang Father looked like he wanted to say something but held back. The others had different expressions, making it hard to tell if they believed him or not.
Tang Xiaofu sneaked a glance toward the doorway. There stood a white-bearded old man carrying a wooden medical box. This must be the doctor.
He let out a dry laugh and quickly changed the topic.
“Father, Mother, the doctor is still here. Let him take my pulse first—we shouldn’t delay his return.”
Tang Father snapped back to his senses and turned to Li Shulan.
“Stop crying. Fuer is already much better. Go boil some water and pour the doctor a cup of tea.”
Then, he turned to the doctor and bowed apologetically.
“Forgive us for the delay, Doctor. Please, have a look at my son.”
Li Shulan wiped away her tears. She was still full of worry for Tang Xiaofu but didn’t want to neglect their guest. Her face twisted in hesitation.
Seeing this, Zhao Xiangbei immediately spoke up.
“Mother, don’t worry. I’ve already boiled hot water. I’ll bring it right away.”
Li Shulan’s face lit up with joy, pleased with her son-in-law’s thoughtfulness.
“Good, then hurry back.”
