A Snake Transmigrated as a Scum A (GL) - Chapter 20
While Tang Youyi went to deal with the fish, Di You shared the snakeberries she and Tang Youyi had picked with Fu Man and Li Yingxue.
“Sister Fu Man, Captain, there are snakeberries here. Do you want to eat some?”
Li Yingxue shook her head, saying she had only drunk a bit of water.
Di You looked at Fu Man, who also had no appetite to eat. “You eat.”
Di You had no choice but to put it back on the ground. After a while, Tang Youyi finished preparing the fish, skewered it on a stick, and set it up to roast.
“The firewood is almost gone,” Tang Youyi said.
Di You turned around and ran down the mountain to gather a bundle of firewood. By the time she returned, only Tang Youyi was left by the fire, grilling fish.
“Where did they go?”
Tang Youyi said, “Probably just taking a break, anyway, it’s still early.”
It’s only evening, and the cameraman doesn’t hold the camera on them 24 hours a day. Usually, around meal times, the number of live broadcast audience decreases because they also go to eat. So, the director team usually has someone set up the camera in front of the cave, fixing a few positions to film the campfire and the people busy around it.
The crew members of the director’s team are eating off-camera.
Di You sniffed the grilled fish. Although she participated in this kind of variety show, at least she wasn’t starving.
She glanced at the person across from her eating bullfrog and felt no envy at all.
“Then I’ll go out for a stroll too. Tang Youyi, I’ll leave it to you here.” Di You patted the dust off her knees and went out for a walk.
It may seem like wandering, but it actually has a purpose.
Di You wants to go find Fu Man and see what she is doing.
Fortunately, she met Fu Man at the other end of the crevice cave. Fu Man was sitting on a relatively flat boulder at the edge, where the view was particularly wide, allowing a full view of the jungle below. If she looked further, she could see the azure sea.
I don’t know if it’s the sea breeze or the mountain breeze blowing over, but it is refreshing and pleasant.
Di You walked over to her, smiled, and said, “Sister Fu Man…”
Fu Man glanced at her, grunted, and Di You asked her why she was here.
“Relax my mind.”
“Oh…”
Di You turned her head to look at her profile, “Sister Fu Man, why are you participating in this kind of variety show?”
Not only is it hard and exhausting, but the director, in pursuit of realism, also clearly stated in the contract that no food would be provided off-camera. In other words, if they want to survive, they have to hunt for food themselves.
Unless you’re really bad at finding food and have to voluntarily quit, the director team will step in to help. However, this will also come with a hefty compensation fee.
Fortunately, their group can find food, so they don’t have to go two days without eating six meals like the people next door.
Fu Man said succinctly, “Short on cash.”
Di You was a bit surprised by her directness, but considering she still planned to secure the director’s 5 million, it wasn’t that strange after all.
“I also need money. My grades are too poor, and my parents want me to go to a really bad school, but I want to go to another one, which has high tuition fees, so I came to participate in this variety show.”
Di You and she were chatting back and forth, mostly with her asking questions and Fu Man occasionally agreeing.
“Sister Fu Man, what kind of person do you like?”
Fu Man didn’t even think about it: “Pretty, eye-catching.”
She has always been this standard, never changed.
Hearing this answer, Di You felt a bit disappointed. She could at most be considered pretty, but she understood that everyone has different requirements and standards for their partner.
“Then… what level of beauty do you like?”
Fu Man didn’t respond to her but instead asked, “Why are you asking this?”
Di You gave a sheepish smile and said, “It’s nothing.”
After a moment of silence, Di You spoke again, “Sister Fu Man, do you have someone you like?”
“No.” Fu Man paused, “But I have a fiancee.”
Di You exclaimed in surprise, “Really?”
“Really.”
“Is she pretty?”
Neither of them noticed the figure standing within the cliff behind them.
Li Yingxue had just applied the new pheromone isolation patch to the gland to prevent pheromone leakage and was about to head back when she unexpectedly ran into the two people chatting.
Hearing Fu Man talk about herself, Li Yingxue hesitated for a moment before continuing her steps towards the base camp.
“She is the most beautiful person I have ever seen.”
Li Yingxue glanced behind the woman, slightly lowered her gaze, and seemed lost in thought.
Di You’s eyes dimmed: “Sister Fu Man, you must have a good impression of your fiancee, right?”
Fu Man shot her a glance and said, “Why have you been talking so much lately?”
Di You adjusted her mood: “Really? I’m just bored here, and no one is talking to me.”
“I’m heading back first, Sister Fu Man, I’m starving to death.” Di You stood up and hurriedly left.
Fu Man stared at her retreating figure for a while, thinking that the fish was almost done grilling. She stood up and prepared to go back. After taking a couple of steps, she caught a glimpse out of the corner of her eye of Li Yingxue standing inside the space on the left side of the cliff.
The two locked eyes.
Fu Man raised an eyebrow: “What are you doing here? Eavesdropping on us?”
Li Yingxue’s originally indifferent expression showed a momentary hint of embarrassment, but it was just a fleeting moment.
She coldly explained, “I was already here.”
“What are you doing here?”
“It has nothing to do with you.”
Saying that, they were about to brush past each other.
Unexpectedly, Fu Man teased, “You’re feeling guilty.”
Li Yingxue suddenly stopped, staring at the woman in front of her who was distorting the facts with an expression she couldn’t comprehend, as if this woman’s thought process was different from that of ordinary people.
“Think whatever you want.” Li Yingxue walked ahead.
Fu Man also took a step, suddenly catching a faint, almost imperceptible scent of iris flowers in the air. It was very faint and disappeared in an instant.
“Did you take the inhibitor?”
Li Yingxue heard the footsteps behind her and recalled how she had just massaged her feet and even done a good job of it. She paused for a moment.
“……No.”
Fu Man thought that besides inhibitors, there seemed to be something else that could block pheromones. “So, are you here to put up an isolation patch?”
Being guessed, Li Yingxue’s surroundings grew a bit colder.
Fu Man’s red lips curled up, feeling that she had somewhat grasped Li Yingxue’s temperament.
After walking a few steps, Fu Man suddenly stopped, turned back to glance at the previous spot, the setting sun’s afterglow slanting onto the jagged rocks, silent and deserted.
She withdrew her gaze and continued to follow Li Yingxue, returning to the base.
Tang Youyi must usually cook for herself; those two ordinary grass carps were unexpectedly grilled by her to be so fragrant and spicy.
“How is there spicy grilled fish in wilderness survival?” Di You was stunned.
As long as there was food, she felt like she was burning incense in gratitude and didn’t dare to ask for more. But Tang Youyi actually made fish in other flavors! Spicy and numbing flavor, no less!
Sometimes, she would momentarily be lost in thought, thinking she had returned to M City to eat out.
Tang Youyi said with a smile, “Today, when we went out to pick wild strawberries, we happened to see a prickly ash tree, so I picked some prickly ash and brought it back. I crushed it with a stone, ground it into small particles, and sprinkled it on the fish before grilling it.”
Li Yingxue took a small bite, and the fresh, spicy, and numbing sensation blossomed on her taste buds. She looked at Tang Youyi and said, “Very good.”
Being complimented, Tang Youyi was in a good mood: “If it’s delicious, Captain, have some more.”
Fu Man thought about how she had brought back a wild chicken yesterday, but only received a “not bad” in response, which was one level lower than “very good.”
