- Episode 23 - Hanakaede's hands are warm
May 30 (Monday)
I had made plans to meet Mizuhara for dinner today, but unfortunately the Student Council Executive Committee had some chores that took over my lunch break. When I told Mizuhara about it, he simply replied, “Understood.”
As I silently copied the handouts to be distributed while munching on a sweet bun, the bell was about to ring in just a few minutes.
“Oh no, oh no,” I thought as I ran down the hallway when I passed Wakumura Chisato staggering out of the classroom. What was wrong with her? Class was about to start.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Wakamatsu calls out to Wakumura as he turns back down the hallway and heads down the stairs.
“Oh, Hanakaede,” Wakumura said, brightening for a moment, but Wakamatsu was surprised to see that her face, which was usually rosy, was completely pale.
“Hey, I’ll go with you to the nurse’s office.”
“Sorry… I’m a little anemic…”
As he was about to speak, Wakumura’s body suddenly dropped.
He hugged her just in time and somehow managed to save her. He supported Wakumura’s body so as not to hurt her and made her sit on the landing of the stairs, leaning her weight against the wall.
“Wakumura, do you think you can walk to the infirmary?”
“…I can walk. Maybe I’m anemic because I’m on my period…”
“I see, I see, periods are tough.”
I fixed the hair that had fallen into my eyes with my fingers and placed my palm on my forehead. I felt a little feverish, but my body felt heavy during my period.
Wakumura said, “He can walk,” but he looked so pale that I was worried. I thought about calling the teacher, but I was confident in my legs, and since it wasn’t that far to the nurse’s office, I decided to carry him on my back.
Although she is taller than Wakamatsu, she is slim and looks light, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
“It’s okay! It’s okay!” and “No, no, I’m so sorry.” He half-forcefully picked up the tantrum-throwing Wakumura and headed straight to the nurse’s office.
I passed a classmate in the hallway and told him to take Wakumura to the nurse’s office and to tell him that Wakamatsu would be late for class, and then we parted ways.
Unfortunately, the nurse in charge seems to be away from her desk.
For the time being, I sat Wakumura on the bed and watched her, and gradually her bl00d started to come back to her. I squatted down at Wakumura’s feet and fixed the wrinkles in her blouse that had appeared when she had carried her on her back.
“I’m sorry, Hanakaede-chan.”
“Why is Wakumura apologizing?”
When I looked up with a smile, my eyes met with Wakumura’s, his cheeks flushed red.
The owner of those captivating round eyes seemed to have completely restored bl00d circulation.
“I’ll call the teacher just in case.”
“Oh, wait.”
Just as he tried to stand up, Wakumura grabbed the hem of his uniform.
He couldn’t see her face because she was bowed, and he couldn’t shake her off as she silently clutched the hem of her skirt. Wakamatsu wrapped his arms around her and sat down next to his classmate.
“Sorry, this is so sudden…”
“That’s fine. Do you want to talk about something until the teacher arrives?”
Saying that, Wakamatsu Kaede smiled.
This is how mental health can be affected during menstruation. I can now apply what I learned in Mizuhara to other friends. Wakumura said she had a stomach ache, so I had her lie down on the bed like I did in Mizuhara and rubbed her lower abdomen.
“Hanakaede’s hands are warm.”
“Oh, that’s what Mizuhara said, too.”
“Mizuhara-san…?”
Wakamatsu sits on the bed and slowly warms Wakumura’s stomach. Unlike Mizuhara’s stomach, Wakumura’s body is surprisingly muscular, just like Wakamatsu’s. Mizuhara’s stomach is very feminine and fluffy to the touch.
As I was enjoying the quiet and peaceful time, the door opened, and the nurse came in. I quickly greeted her and told her about Wakumura.
“Thank you for your hard work, um…”
“I’m Wakamatsu Hanafude, from the same group as Wakumura-san.”
“Oh, you’re Wakamatsu-san.”
Mr. Sato from the nurse’s office suddenly looked up.
I don’t remember ever going to the nurse’s office. He spoke as if he knew what he was talking about, and this time, Wakamatsu
Seeing this, Mr. Sato smiled and said, “Oh, I’m sorry.”
“Thank you Mizuhara-san.”
“Do you mean Mizuhara Shizuku?”
“Yes. It seems like she really relied on you.”
Wakamatsu frowned at the remark.
“Really? Mizuhara never says things like that.”
“I’d love to hear about what happened at the infirmary.”
“Ufufufu,” Professor Sato laughed elegantly.
“What did Mizuhara say?”
“Hehe, you’ll have to ask that yourself. Sensei, I keep my mouth shut.”
“Yeah, isn’t that great?”
Even though he was throwing a tantrum, Mr. Sato just smiled and didn’t tell him anything. Deciding that this was impossible, Wakamatsu left the nurse’s office.
When I entered the classroom late, Mr. Sakamoto, who teaches basic chemistry, said to me, “Thank you for your hard work.” As I returned to my seat, I was met with the gazes of several grinning classmates. I asked Shizuku Mizuhara how she was, but she was staring at the blackboard with no interest.
I wonder what Mizuhara was talking about in the nurse’s office with such a calm expression on his face.
I’ll ask him directly next time. Wakamatsu sat down with a smile on his face.
