- Episode 27 - So Smile, Mizuhara
Take the train back to the nearest station and exit through the south ticket gate.
We then headed to the sea, chatting about trivial things with Mizuhara.
It’s been several months since I last visited the sea, and the sea breeze feels humid compared to when I was here in February.
I bought some ice cream and hot green tea at a convenience store and sat down on a bench a short distance from the beach. I took a sip of the hot tea while gazing at the distant seashore.
“Thank you for today. And for choosing the restaurant.”
“Yeah, that was fun!”
We made matching rings, went to a stylish cafe, went shopping, and watched the sunset by the sea. Today’s date was very fulfilling.
“Wakamatsu is amazing, he does everything perfectly.”
“Me? I didn’t do anything.”
“The restaurant selection, the schedule, and even the escorts.”
Wakamatsu feels happy, wondering if it is a compliment on today’s date.
“She’s pretty, smart, good at sports, and also a big reader.”
“I’m not much of a reader.”
“Haha, you’re a worthy reader from my point of view.”
They exchange words while enjoying a piece of ice cream together.
“Mizuhara, don’t you read books?”
“There was a time when I read it, though.”
“Shall I bring you a recommended book that looks easy to read?”
“Hmm, I guess it’s okay for now…”
She hesitates and gives a polite smile.
“Books don’t tell me what I want to know.”
“What would you like to know?”
He was about to change the subject, thinking it would be wise not to delve any further into the topic, but Mizuhara began to mutter to himself.
“Yeah, I wonder how long these days will continue.”
“I wonder what I can do to ease my mind. When will I be able to forget about it?”
“…I wanted some honest answers to those kinds of things…”
Mizuhara was at a loss for words and just looked down at his feet.
“Everyone says that with time, you’ll forget. But I want to erase it right now, everything.”
When she goes to the sea, Mizuhara Shizuku pours out her feelings.
The sea may take away those words, but it won’t take away the worries that Mizuhara is carrying. Seeing Mizuhara’s painful expression made my heart ache.
Even when I called out his name, Mizuhara just looked down, deep in thought, without replying.
In an attempt to somehow bring Mizuhara back to his senses, Wakamatsu stood up and crouched down at Mizuhara’s feet, one knee on the ground.
Mizuhara raised his head, perhaps seeing Wakamatsu’s feet.
Wakamatsu straightened his back and met Mizuhara Shizuku’s gaze.
I don’t know what I can do, but I don’t want to see Mizuhara’s face like that.
“Shi, Shizu… Mizuhara Shizuku-san.”
“picture……”
I knelt, hoping that he would look at me, but then an unexpected golden opportunity presented itself.
Following his intuition, Wakamatsu opened the box containing the pair of rings he had been keeping and showed them to her.
This atmosphere was so romantic. What’s embarrassing is that my hands were shaking with nervousness even as I held the box.
“Even when times are tough, I’ll always be by your side. So smile, Mizuhara.”
I know that this is not like me.
With a serious expression on his face, he speaks words that sound like a love confession.
He somehow managed to stop his heart from beating so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of his mouth. Wakamatsu gently wrapped his arms around Mizuhara Shizuku’s right hand and slipped the pair of rings onto her ring finger.
The ring fit perfectly on Mizuhara Shizuku’s ring finger and sparkled brightly.
She stretches out her arms and looks at the ring she is wearing. Her behavior is just like that of a princess, and Wakamatsu is entranced. Somehow managing to look away from the princess, Wakamatsu kneels below her and urges Mizuhara, “What’s your answer?”shadow
“I didn’t hear a reply, though?”
“Fufu, I get it. I’ll keep smiling.”
Mizuhara Shizuku’s face broke into a smile.
“Don’t force a smile. I like a natural smile.”
“Yeah”
“When things get tough, I’m here for you. I’m just here for you.”
I didn’t need any logical arguments or solutions, I just had to be by Shizuku Mizuhara’s side and listen to what she had to say. I recited in my head what Professor Yamabe had taught me.
“Let’s have lots of fun again. Let’s just forget about it for a little while.”
“…I wonder if someone like me is okay…”
“It’s okay.”
Without caring about what others think, Mizuhara hugs Wakamatsu from the front.
Thanks to having one knee on the ground, Wakamatsu prevented Mizuhara from falling backwards, and he supported her slender waist and held her in place.
“I’m so sorry…” I heard her say in a pained voice.
What was he apologizing for? Who was he apologizing to? Without any understanding, he tightened his grip around her waist. We both remained on our knees, listening to the sound of the waves and feeling each other’s body heat.
