- Episode 48 - An excellent and easy-going kid
–Why am I who I am?
Although she grew up in a single-parent household, she lived a modest life without any financial hardship.
My mother works part-time, my sister has excellent grades, and I’m just average.
Although I am not as good as my sister, I am also a good student. I never caused any problems at school, and although I went to a cram school, I went to the top school in the prefecture. It was a public high school, so I should have been able to save money on the cram school fees.
“An excellent, easy-going kid”
This is an accurate way to describe me, although deep down, I had mixed feelings.
During the weekdays, I did the housework with my sister in place of my mother who worked full-time. Every Saturday or Sunday, I went to my maternal grandparents’ house to help with farming, cleaning, and cooking. I was the one who visited the house the most out of all the grandchildren, and I think I was a very devoted daughter.
I had a hard time when I was in elementary school.
I’m not good at playing with large groups of people, so I found the dodgeball and tag-and-dagger games that were held twice a week painful. On the day of the school open day, I tried to act cheerful and was careful not to worry my mother. Looking back, I was so miserable.
“I was able to see Mizuhara-san’s smile.”
That’s what was written on my report card. I guess I was always gloomy, so much so that my homeroom teacher would judge me if I laughed.
By the time I reached middle school, things seemed to improve a little.
The girl at the top of the girls’ group in my class happened to be a childhood friend of mine from kindergarten. We didn’t become close, but she still called me “Shizuku-chan,” so I was able to establish a good position in her class.
However, one day, the boys started making fun of me.
A strange nickname was given to me by a senior student I didn’t know, and the boys in my grade also called me by the same nickname. I knew that the nickname didn’t have a good meaning, and I found it really unpleasant when they looked at me with a creepy grin on their face.
I was already disliked by boys, but now I found myself disliked by them even more.
Guys are surprisingly honest about girls’ appearances.
By this time, I was becoming more and more aware of the criticism I was receiving about my appearance.
When I entered Sakugaoka High School, I was surprised at how comfortable it was.
If you have a high deviation score, you are naturally intelligent. No one will ridicule or bully you, and everyone here is free and respectful.
In order to avoid being looked down upon, I also tried hard to make friends, and maybe because of that I was able to make a lot of friends.
I later heard that the boys had made a “cuteness ranking” shortly after I entered the school, and I just accepted that that’s just how boys are. I’m pretty sure that Masuda-san was at number one on the ranking, and Wakamatsu Hanafude was in second place.
Spring came to me during the summer of my first year of high school, and I started dating a boy from my club.
Whether I liked him or not. Before I even knew it, it had just happened. Just as I was starting to talk to him and build a relationship with him, my sister disappeared.Mizuhara Yu
Naturally, I had no time for that, and I completely forgot about him, and before I knew it, we had just faded away. I wasn’t sad at all, but I felt bad for him, since he was my first boyfriend.
Anyway, back to the main topic.
Wakamatsu Hanafude was a very conspicuous person.
Although he had an astonishingly beautiful face, he was unaware of this and behaved in a friendly manner.
God seemed unfair, but she was beautiful, smart, and had excellent athletic ability, and she was the center of attention no matter what she did. Even though she had everything, she was still not satisfied, and she threw herself into committee activities and event management.
“Oh man, Wakamatsu is cute.”
“Could you introduce me to Wakamatsu-san?”
If you are in the same class as her, you will hear these words many times.
Despite all the attention he was receiving, the person in question seemed unconcerned, and I couldn’t help but be shocked at his insensitivity.
She was raised surrounded by love and seems to have grown up to be a straight-laced person without any twisted personality.
She was kinder than most people and would listen to anyone’s requests, no matter how unreasonable they may have been. She was honest and flexible and had the grace to admit her mistakes right away. She lived naturally, without trying to look cool. And yet she was loved by everyone, which I envied, as I couldn’t act cheerfully unless my extrovert switch was on.
“Mizuhara-san. I’m going to collect your English notebook.”
“I accidentally brought the wrong page. I’ll bring it myself later.”
“Hahaha, even Mizuhara-san has things like that happen.”
Wakamatsu Hanae was shining brightly as she smiled at me.
She waited until I finished my assignments and then brought them all to the staff room to hand them in. I was so surprised at her kindness, as she seemed to be concerned about me not turning them in late.
If I were to be reborn, I wanted to be like Wakamatsu Hanafude, someone who had everything and was liked by everyone.
