- Episode 65 - Because I love Wakamatsu too
Friday, October 21
I woke up thirsty.
I tried to get up, but the arms of my classmate sleeping next to me were entangled, and I couldn’t get out. I twisted my body and tried to escape from the restraints without waking her up.
“…N-no.”
“Wow.”
With the sleepy Wakamatsu pulling Mizuhara’s arm, Mizuhara stumbled and ended up on Wakamatsu’s stomach.
“Guue,” a sound like a squashed frog escaped Wakamatsu’s mouth.
The classmate woke up due to Mizuhara Shizuku’s weight, letting out a loud “Whoa!” as she sat up. The force of the shock caused Mizuhara to lose her balance again and land on top of her.
“Eh, Mi, Mizuhara?”
Wakamatsu stares at Mizuhara with wide eyes, a mixture of surprise and a touch of expectation in his eyes.
“Sorry, I’m a bit thirsty.”
“Oh, I see… that’s it.”
“Did you think I was going to hug you?”
Perhaps feeling embarrassed that his guilty feelings had been discovered, Wakamatsu covered his face with the duvet. He felt sorry for his classmate. He even began to think that it might be okay to touch her as she wished, up until a point.
“Do you want me to touch you?”
“Of course…”
“Where and how do you want me to touch you?”
He interrogates her while quenching his thirst with water.
Wakamatsu blushed as he got out of bed and wrapped his arms around Mizuhara’s stomach, rubbing his head against her back.
“Mizuhara is a bit mean.”
“Isn’t Wakamatsu a masochist?”
“Th-That’s not possible…”
He turned around and kissed Wakamatsu on the forehead. He also gently kissed the corner of his eye, and Wakamatsu narrowed his eyes.
“…What time is it now?”
“It’s almost dawn already.”
“Ahaha, then there’s not enough time.”
When I opened the curtains, I could feel the signs of morning.
“The sun will rise soon, I think.”
“Oh! I want to see that.”
“Maybe you can see it if you go out onto the balcony.”
When I opened the door separating the balcony, a cool breeze brushed against my cheeks.
Taking a deep breath, he takes in fresh air into his lungs. Wakamatsu, still wearing his sweatshirt, also pops his head out and leans against the railing.
“Ahh, it feels so good.”
She looks good in any outfit.
“Doesn’t it look like we can cross the balcony there? Let’s wake up Masuda and the others.”
“No, just call me normally.”
“Oh, I see.”
Wakamatsu called repeatedly, and Ariyoshi, with a sleepy voice, answered the phone.
A few minutes after the phone call, Masuda, dressed in floral pajamas, and Ariyoshi, with a refreshed look on his face, came out onto the balcony, led by Wakumura, rubbing his eyes.
“You’ve already shown your face quite a bit, Taiyo.”
Ariyoshi stretches his body and looks up at the sky.
“Because you’re not on the phone, right?”
“You idiot! Let me sleep!”
Even as he made his comments, Masuda seemed to be enjoying this extraordinary experience.
“You asked me before.”
Mizuhara stands next to Wakumura, who has his eyes closed and is enjoying the morning air. The balcony is divided, and the two of them talk on either side.
“Are you talking about Hanakaede?”
Being a very perceptive girl, she seemed to have immediately grasped my intentions. Mizuhara nodded.
“Can I steal Hanakaede-chan away?”
“Spend more time with Hanakaede and make yourself more appealing.”
“One day I’ll even repaint the person Hanakaede likes.”
I now understand her true intentions. Wakumura’s words were not sincere.
He couldn’t bear to see Mizuhara being indecisive, so he gave him a push. It took him a long time to arrive at the answer that should have been easy to guess.
“Can I steal Hanakaede-chan away?”
She spat out the same words and laughed playfully.
“No, I don’t want it to be taken away.”
Mizuhara also smiled and responded sincerely.
He sends straightforward and honest words to Chisato Wakumura. As if satisfied with his words, she smiles and hugs Shizuku Mizuhara. They are in a funny position, leaning over the balcony and embracing each other.
“Hehe, why is that?”
“Because I like Wakamatsu too.”
“Take good care of those feelings.”
As the best answer she could give her, Mizuhara Shizuku hugged her back tightly.
Masuda laughed, making fun of the two classmates’ warm embrace, while Ariyoshi, who seemed to somehow understand what was going on, narrowed his eyes.
“The school trip was fun, Mizuhara.”
“Yeah… it was fun.”
“Let’s continue to paint it over with fun things.”
The young pine maple trees illuminated by the morning sun shine brighter than usual.
“What, just the two of you?”
Ariyoshi looks at me from afar.
With that one word, the eyes of the four people in the room were focused on Mizuhara.
He turns to Wakamatsu as if asking for help, but she remains silent with a gentle smile on her face. Her eyes seem to be telling Mizuhara that everything is okay now.
“…The truth is, there’s something that’s been bothering me for a long time–“
After talking about her sister in general, Masuda, who is easily moved to tears, was the first to burst into tears, and Ariyoshi stretched out his long arms as far as he could to hug Mizuhara. I don’t know why, but I felt a tremendous sense of relief.
“I’m on Mizuhara’s side, too.”
“We are on your side, Shizuku-chan.”
Wakamatsu looks up into the wind, spreads his arms wide, and takes deep breaths.
“Okay, let’s go find it.”
Everyone in the room nodded at Wakamatsu’s words. Feeling that she had been affirmed, Mizuhara Shizuku began to tear up. Wakamatsu noticed and wiped Mizuhara’s tears away with the pads of his fingers.
“Mom is mom. Mizuhara Shizuku is Mizuhara Shizuku.”
Her face is refreshed as she makes that assertion.
Mizuhara Shizuku burned the image of Wakamatsu Hanae into her mind.
