- Episode 66: Can't you listen to your lover's request? - Chapter 5: "Find someone who will be by your side"
Friday, November 4
Once November arrives, Sakugaoka High School is in full swing with its cultural festival.
The atmosphere was still one of love for events, so an organizing committee was formed immediately, and cultural festival committee members were selected from each class. Invited by Wakamatsu Kaede, Mizuhara also ran for organizing committee position.
“It seems a bit noisy.”
“Look, over there. People are gathering on the bulletin board.”
He pointed to the crowd on the first floor of the school building.
Wakamatsu grimaces as he stuffs his mouth full of rice balls. It’s probably some announcement about the school festival.
“Wakamatsu-senpai! We’re rooting for you!”
As Mizuhara and Wakamatsu were sitting side by side on a bench in the courtyard, someone suddenly called out to them from behind. When they turned around, they saw several unfamiliar girls. Everyone was staring at Wakamatsu, and Mizuhara seemed to be the odd one out.
“What? What are you cheering for?”
The unfamiliar girls blushed.
“It’s the beauty pageant grand prix!”
Wakamatsu, who had no idea what was going on, looked at Mizuhara as if asking for help. But there was no way that Mizuhara Shizuku could know something that she didn’t know.
“Eh… What do you mean?”
“Your name was on the list of candidates!”
“Huh!?”
This time, Wakamatsu was astonished. He left his juniors, and the two of them hurried to the bulletin board.
Sure enough, Wakamatsu Hanaede’s name was there.
“Isn’t this a selection by others?”
“Selection by others?”
“Candidates are selected through school recommendations. It started this year.”
“Who the hell recommended that?”
Next to Mizuhara, the classmate held his head.
This year’s school festival was something she thought she would be able to get through if she only did the work assigned to her by the organizing committee. It seems that Wakamatsu Kaede has been caught up in a difficult event. However, Mizuhara can’t do anything about it. Even though she has so many headaches, she will surely participate if asked by others.
“Wakamatsu! Aim for the Grand Prix!”
“It’s hard to be good-looking looking.”
When he returned to the classroom, Masuda and Ariyoshi, who had already seen the list of candidates, started to tease him. Wakamatsu brushed them off in annoyance and returned to his seat.
“Wh-what are you going to do, Shizuku-chan?”
“What?”
After the seats were swapped and I was sitting in front of and behind Mizuhara, Chisato Wakumura timidly spoke to me. I was confused because I didn’t understand the meaning of her question.
“If she enters a beauty pageant, Hanakaede will be popular again.”
That one word reminded me of the magic of summer sports day.
It is easy to imagine that if she were to win the beauty pageant grand prize, things would become very difficult.
“…That’s going to happen again … ?”
“That’s right! What are you going to do?”
Now it was Mizuhara Shizuku’s turn to hold her head.
“Hey, are you going to withdraw from the beauty pageant after all?”
“Well, I guess I was asked to do it.”
After school, Mizuhara’s time with Wakamatsu, whom he hasn’t seen in a long time, begins with a discussion. As expected, Wakamatsu, who was asked to participate, seems to have agreed.
“Can’t you listen to your lover’s request?”
“Ugh, that face is scary.”
She rubs her hands together and looks up, stirring Wakamatsu’s heart. As expected, when she says she likes Mizuhara’s face, she blushes and looks away.
“No, don’t look away.”
Mizuhara moved closer to her classmate, grabbed both of her cheeks, and turned her face towards him.
“Wow, seriously… so cute.”
“Hey, abstain, Wakamatsu.”
“But, I already said it…”
“There are plenty of people who can replace Wakamatsu.”
Wakamatsu narrows his eyes and glares at me.
“What kind of words are you talking about? I’m angry now. I’m going to participate.”
“Hey, don’t be sulky. Forfeit, Wakamatsu.”
“Seriously… what happened all of a sudden?”
He forcibly kisses Wakamatsu, who is throwing a tantrum.
He lightly bit his upper lip and played with the corner of Wakamatsu’s mouth with his fingers. His eyebrows twitched as Wakamatsu enjoyed the stimulation Mizuhara was giving him.
“Don’t make me jealous.”
He let go of her lips and embraced Wakamatsu Hanae.
“If I go out to something like that, I’ll be popular again.”
“I’m loyal. I won’t fall for anyone other than Mizuhara.”
“But I don’t like it. I don’t want to see Wakamatsu being fawned over by other people.”
Honestl, you speak your heart out.
“I understand. I’ll make sure Mizuhara doesn’t feel that way.”
Wakamatsu gently stroked Mizuhara’s cheek. Mizuhara leaned her face in closer, as if drawn by the warmth of his hand.
“TRUE?”
“Yeah, I’ll think about it. So can I participate?”
Mizuhara sighed, looking down.
“You’re too nice.”
“But you like that about me, too.”
“Well… I guess so.”
Wakamatsu laughed proudly at Mizuhara’s reply.
–This year’s school festival is going to be a big challenge.
