- Episode 67 - "I'm okay with my sister now"

“Can I collect the pairing?”
He suddenly brought this up in a cafe in front of the station.
Mizuhara Shizuku, who had been drinking her matcha tea, was surprised and took her mouth away. Her heart was racing, wondering if they were going to break up.
“Eh, why?”
“Ummm… It’s a secret!”
Seeing my classmate’s blush and averted eyes, I took it that this wasn’t a break-up conversation. Feeling relieved, I took a sip of my matcha latte.
“I want to date during my break.”
“Well, that’s true, but…”
Check the schedule for the two-day cultural festival.
Mizuhara doesn’t have much to do apart from her administrative duties, but Wakamatsu has almost no free time. The beauty pageant is scheduled throughout the two days. She will probably make it through the preliminary rounds and make it to the finals.
“As you can see, Wakamatsu is full.”
“Seriously? What about after the beauty pageant is over?”
“Well, it’s empty.”
Wakamatsu bites into the hamburger.
When I wiped the teriyaki sauce off the corner of her mouth with my finger, she narrowed her eyes happily. Lately, Wakamatsu Hanae has shown great joy at even the slightest touch from Mizuhara.

As he walked down the hallway after finishing a departmental meeting for the cultural festival organizing committee, he spotted a familiar figure ahead of him. The man across from him also seemed to notice Mizuhara and waved amiably.
“Mizuhara, how are you doing lately?”
Yamabe, my former homeroom teacher, called out to me with his usual gentle smile. His gentle tone never changes.
“Well, I’ve been fine lately.”
“I see. How are you and Wakamatsu getting along?”
“……yes”
I wonder how much he heard about the incident with Wakamatsu. His gentle smile gives no indication of what he has heard.
If you have time, would you like to talk to the teacher?
Seeing the seriousness in his eyes, Mizuhara agreed.
As usual, we were guided to the student guidance office and sat across from each other. The room was cooler than the classroom, and it was a bit chilly.
“May I ask how things have been lately?”
“How is it going?”
“May I touch upon something that has been bothering Mizuhara?”
He seems to be waiting to see if it’s okay to delve into the subject of his sister.
Even though they hadn’t spoken openly since the school trip, Mizuhara’s resistance to his sister’s stories had lessened.
“No word from your sister yet?”
“Well, nothing.”
“Hmm,” the teacher said, looking down as he seemed to be searching for the right words to say to Mizuhara.
“Well, but… I’m fine with my sister now.”
Hearing this, Yamabe raised his head. I was already tired of looking at his rumpled, messy hair with his head bowed.
“I’ve made friends that I can talk to properly.”
“You mean Wakamatsu?”
“Wakamatsu, and Masuda and Ariyoshi too.”
I mentioned Masuda and Ariyoshi because they have been classmates since the first year. He narrowed his eyes happily.
“That’s good. I guess there’s a safe place in Suwon, too.”
“Maybe… thanks to the teacher.”
The person who had escorted Wakamatsu Kaede to the apartment was undoubtedly Yamabe Koichi, who was standing right in front of her.
“The teacher didn’t do anything. It was the two of you who found the answer.”
“What is the answer…?”
“I think being with someone you can trust is the way to get through sadness.”
Yamabe gave a cheerful smile.
“When it’s painful, say it’s painful. When it’s sad, say it’s sad.”
“Sharing happy things, fun things, and silly things”
” Find someone who will be by your side .”
This is similar to what my classmate Ariyoshi was talking about. I wonder if she, too, has struggled and found the answer.
“Find a replacement for your sister.”
“Be special to a special person.”
Once again, he realized that all of his decisions had been wrong. Mizuhara felt guilty towards Wakamatsu again, but he quickly shook it off.
“I don’t think these painful days will end until my sister comes back and I know what’s going on.”
Where is my sister, and what is she doing now? I have a feeling that this “unusual” situation will not end until she takes some kind of action.
“From now on, make sure you talk to someone you can trust.”
“Yes, I will.”
“Of course, you can do that to m,e too.”
Yamabe tilted his head playfully and pointed at himself.
“Then excuse me.”
Mizuhara put his hand on the heavy door.
I hadn’t left the guidance office feeling this refreshed in the last year.
