- Chapter 5 - Then Hold On to Me
Qiao Sanghe’s heartbeat suddenly quickened, like ripples stirred on a still lake, and her delicate figure momentarily stiffened.
Yu Wanyin’s palm was warm and pressed gently against the softness of Qiao Sanghe’s skin. She wasn’t even sure where she found the courage to do such a thing—only that something instinctively told her this is what a CP partner ought to do.
Their fingers intertwined. The warmth from each other’s skin passed through that light touch, feather-like and fluttering across their hearts. The kiss that followed was as soft as a dragonfly brushing the water’s surface—careful and reverent, like kissing something precious. Her trembling lashes barely concealed the nervous flutter in her chest.
It all happened in an instant, so sudden—yet she quickly adjusted her demeanor.
A faint smile graced Qiao Sanghe’s cool, elegant face as she accepted Yu Wanyin’s touch. She was surprised by the initiative, feeling the strength in her hand as they held each other. There was an unexpected sense of security in that simple gesture. It seemed Yu Wanyin had truly considered what she’d said earlier—adapting quickly to this “partner” role.
Hand in hand, they glanced at one another. While the gaze between them lacked the sweetness of real lovers, their aura matched unexpectedly well. The chemistry was subtle yet compelling—one aloof and graceful, the other radiant and warm. Together, their looks and presence gave off just enough of a CP vibe to catch the eye.
There were a few steps up to the stage in the live recording studio.
Qiao Sanghe was wearing 10cm silver stiletto heels. Her footing was a little unsteady on the tiles. But Yu Wanyin’s steady arm supported her throughout—her presence inherently comforting. Each time she helped her up a step, she carefully watched where Qiao Sanghe placed her feet. And with her other hand protectively bracing behind Qiao Sanghe, it was clear she was deeply mindful of her safety.
These actions, though simple, spoke volumes. Each small movement showed how responsible and attentive Yu Wanyin truly was.
No wonder she had been the one Qiao Sanghe ultimately chose. All the “difficult” requirements she had laid out had posed no problem for Yu Wanyin. Instead, they only highlighted her strengths—her patience, attentiveness, and unwavering gentleness. She was the only one who could truly tolerate Qiao Sanghe’s complicated temperament.
While helping Qiao Sanghe, Yu Wanyin couldn’t help but think of caring for her frail younger sister, Yu Xiaoya. That same anxiety about her sister falling now echoed in how delicately she supported Qiao Sanghe.
It had become second nature—pure instinct.
As the two appeared on the livestream, curiosity and surprise erupted among fans and viewers alike. The screen quickly flooded with speculation about Yu Wanyin’s identity. The fact that the famously private Qiao
Sanghe suddenly had a girlfriend—an unknown one, no less—was shocking.
And given Qiao Sanghe’s celebrity status, many fans had high standards. They expected someone just as exceptional for her partner. But Yu Wanyin was clearly a complete outsider, which was hard for many to accept.
【When did Sang-sang start dating a normie??】
【This is way too sudden! I can’t deal with it.】
【She’s just a random nobody. She doesn’t match her at all.】
【Sang-sang’s never had rumors before, and now she’s just announcing a girlfriend on a variety show? This feels fake.】
【Qiao Sanghe is so low-key that even longtime fans barely know her private life. This is too out of the blue.】
【Still… I trust Sang-sang’s judgment. She’s amazing, so her choice shouldn’t be wrong.】
【Remaining cautiously skeptical.】
During their interview, the audience finally learned that Yu Wanyin was just a recent graduate with no stable job—clearly a huge gap in status, background, and wealth compared to superstar Omega Qiao Sanghe.
It left people wondering: why would someone like her choose an unknown ordinary girl?
Qiao Sanghe had always been mysterious—so much so that even her old classmates couldn’t recall anything specific about her. Her privacy was impenetrable, her social circle nearly nonexistent. This sudden romantic revelation felt all the more surreal.
When the preview episode ended, Yu Wanyin’s name skyrocketed in popularity. In the entertainment world, gossip travels fast. Overnight, people were digging into her personal details.
But even with the intense scrutiny, there was surprisingly little to find. Some claimed she was a college classmate; others said they had worked with her. But no one could recall anything definitive—her private life was clean, silent. No friends, no online presence, not even a trace in school forums.
It was like she had emerged from nowhere.
If Qiao Sanghe’s secrecy could be chalked up to celebrity privacy, then Yu Wanyin’s total lack of history was downright suspicious. Only two possibilities existed: either she truly was a good-natured, simple girl with no skeletons, or everything had been deliberately erased.
The show’s next segment had the two dressing up in matching costumes—white schoolgirl chiffon dresses and black Mary Janes. The variety show’s theme was a “dream sequence” mystery set in a dormitory. All cast members played students trapped in a school dorm, following clues to find the key to escape.
While changing, Qiao Sanghe took off her expensive stilettos and reluctantly put on the worn, budget shoes provided by the production team. The quality was terrible, and the stiff material made her frown—clearly uncomfortable.
Yu Wanyin noticed. She hadn’t known the exact reason for the frown at first, but it bothered her. Qiao Sanghe’s comfort mattered—deeply. After eliminating other possibilities, her attention landed on the shoes.
She tried on her own pair. The discomfort hit immediately—stiff soles, harsh material, digging at the skin. No wonder Qiao Sanghe had reacted like that. This woman, who insisted her coffee be exactly the right temperature, would never tolerate shoes like these.
Yu Wanyin had bought similar ones before—cheap and painful. They rubbed the ankles raw and bled. She couldn’t let Qiao Sanghe suffer through that.
Thinking fast, she turned to her.
“Wait here—I’ll be right back.”
Qiao Sanghe raised an eyebrow, surprised. She hadn’t said anything. How had Yu Wanyin noticed?
Yu Wanyin pulled a bandage from her bag—she always carried emergency items because of her sister, and this time it came in handy.
Kneeling before her, she said gently:
“Take off your shoes. I’ll stick this on—you won’t get blisters.”
Qiao Sanghe watched, amused. She hadn’t expected this kind of thoughtfulness. Her mood improved.
“If I take off my shoes, I might not be able to stand properly,” she teased.
Yu Wanyin held out a steady arm and let her lean on her back.
“Then hold on to me. I won’t let you fall. If you feel unsteady, grab me right away.”
Qiao Sanghe’s fingertips tingled. Her lashes fluttered as a wicked smile tugged at her lips. When Yu Wanyin bent down to apply the bandage, her lips brushed against the soft skin of her leg. Her breath spilled over the sensitive area just inside her thigh.
The posture was dangerously intimate.
Her breath tickled Qiao Sanghe’s skin, making her reflexively shift her smooth, fair leg—suddenly.
Caught off guard, Yu Wanyin’s lips landed directly on her thigh.
A soft kiss, unintentionally intimate.
Moist warmth spread against pale skin.
“!!!”
