- A Swordsman and a Mage, Sworn Enemies, Accidentally Crossed a Line and Discovered Their Bodies Were Perfectly Compatible.
- Chapter 4 - It seems I can't forget her.
A week had passed since the Special Assignment.
Since that day, I hadn’t spoken to Remietta, let alone seen her face.
We weren’t particularly close to begin with, but going a whole week without exchanging a single word was unprecedented.
Normally, we’d trade barbs and sarcastic remarks several times a week, but without seeing each other, there was no opportunity for such exchanges.
I tried to find her, but it was as if she was deliberately avoiding me. No matter what I did, I couldn’t catch a glimpse of her.
“What’s wrong, Mr. Elvin?”
“Oh, it’s nothing…”
My constant thoughts about Remietta must have been written all over my face, because Yurio, my attendant, was starting to worry.
Even while moving between classrooms, whenever I had a spare moment, Remietta’s face would flood my mind.
“Could it be you’re still bothered by not settling things with that Remietta brat?”
“…Well, something like that.”
Since Remietta’s part was correct, I nodded vaguely in agreement.
“I was so sure Mr. Elvin would win! I never imagined a dragon would appear… Wait a minute! Could Remietta have summoned the dragon?!”
“Why would she do that…?”
“I’ve heard that some magic can control magical beasts, and even transform people! Realizing she was about to lose, Remietta summoned the dragon to nullify the match!”
“…I see, I see.”
Yurio spoke with fervent conviction, but I knew Remietta wasn’t that kind of woman. Her pride would never allow such cheating, and I didn’t want her to stoop to such foolishness.
I sighed and shook my head at his wild theories. Just then—
“Is that… an insult to me?”
“?!”
The voice I had been longing to hear came from directly in front of me.
I frantically turned to see Remietta, the woman I had longed for, standing there. Behind her stood her male and female attendants.
“Hey, you! Yurio, was it? You just insulted Lady Remietta!”
“Wh-what’s your problem? You used a cheap trick because you couldn’t beat Mr. Elvin fair and square!”
“Then why did Lady Remietta injure her leg?!”
“To make my argument more convincing!”
Yurio and the male student beside Remietta began trading insults, a common sight between swordsmen and mages.
“Altos, there’s no need to waste our precious time on someone incapable of rational thought, who can only whisper in the shadows. This conversation is pointless.”
“If Lady Remietta says so…”
“What was that?! Running away now?!”
“I said you’re not worth talking to. Are your ears just for show? Or perhaps someone so skilled at backstabbing and delusion finds such logic too difficult to grasp?”
“You bastard!”
Yurio was utterly crushed by Remietta’s words, his anger reaching its peak. He had completely fallen into her trap.
Her sarcasm is top-tier. It’s hard to stay calm around her.
“Yurio, that’s enough. You have no evidence or basis for your claims. You’re the one in the wrong.”
“But Mr. Elvin!”
“Enough.”
“Tch—”
One glare from me made Yurio flinch back, cold sweat beading on his forehead.
Yurio’s quick temper is his weakness, but it’s my job to keep him in check.
“Sorry about that, Remietta.”
“Ah, you can actually hold a conversation. I’m relieved. I thought you were only capable of beast-like roars. Gyōkō.”
“Can’t you ever stop with the sarcasm?”
“…Not as irresponsible as you.”
“—”
For a fleeting moment, the color in Remietta’s eyes shifted.
As I held my breath, she brushed past me, signaling that the conversation was over.
“Wait–”
“Goodbye, Mr. Elvin,”
Remietta said coldly, cutting off my frantic attempt to stop her.
I was stunned, and her mouth moved slightly at the end.
(Tonight, behind the school building.)
Remietta, who had spoken words impossible to read without lip-reading skills, immediately turned on her heel and vanished.
“Mr. Elvin, let’s go too.”
Yurio said, his anger palpable. But I was still reeling from the shock of Remietta’s summons.
◇
I couldn’t focus on anything all day, and before I knew it, night had fallen.
As the sun went down and there was no sign of anyone, I left the boys’ dormitory and headed for the back of the school.
I moved cautiously to avoid being seen, yet ran swiftly.
In just a few minutes, I reached the back of the school building—a pitch-black area illuminated only by the moonlight.
There, Remietta stood waiting, gazing up at the sky.
“H-hey. Long time no see,”
I hesitated slightly before calling out to her.
She glanced at me briefly before quickly looking away.
“…Irresponsible. You actually came.”
“Irresponsible? That’s unfair.”
“What are you talking about? You came inside me!”
“Ugh…”
I couldn’t argue with that. I remembered clearly how we’d had intense s3x and I’d come inside her.
“I’ll take responsibility.”
“How?”
“…Marriage.”
“Why would I marry you? That’s disgusting.”
“Ugh…”
Her blunt rejection cut me deeply. The wound was even more painful because I’d started to develop feelings for Remietta after we’d had s3x together.
“But… what are we going to do? It already happened.”
“I’m not pregnant with your child. I already used magic to kill the seed.”
“Huh?”
Remietta said it so casually.
I was stunned, unable to process what she’d said. I’d been so preoccupied with figuring out what to do next that I hadn’t even considered this possibility.
“You think I’d actually give birth to your baby? Get over yourself, you’re being delusional. It’s disgusting.”
“W-well, you’d at least consider it, right? I did finish inside you.”
“Don’t say another word. You’re making me imagine it. I’m shuddering.”
“That’s just ridiculous.”
A torrent of sharp insults rained down on me, but I breathed a sigh of relief knowing she wasn’t pregnant. I’d been agonizing over how to convince everyone otherwise, and now a wave of relief washed over me.
“Fine, whatever. More importantly, has anyone found out?”
“Of course not. What about you?”
“That’s a stupid question.”
“Good.”
We confirmed with each other that no one had discovered our secret.
“Then, if neither of us says anything, we can pretend that night never happened.”
“Exactly.”
That’s for the best. It was a moment of madness induced by the Aphrodisiac Mushroom, and we’re two people who should never have been together in the first place.
If it was just a dream, pretending it never happened is the easiest way to move on.
“…………”
“…………”
Despite everything, we didn’t exchange a single word after that.
Neither of us moved to part ways. We simply stared at each other, as if something lingered between us, unable to break the gaze.
Remietta’s eyes, looking up at me, were a deep crimson, so beautiful they seemed to draw me in. Her pale skin, silver hair, and swaying skirt filled my senses entirely.
Bathed in moonlight, Remietta radiated a captivating allure that could bewitch any man.
“You… you’re really cute, you know.”
“Huh?!”
“Sh1t—”
Having been staring at each other for so long, my true feelings slipped out involuntarily.
Remietta’s face flushed crimson instantly, and she retorted in a harsh, low voice.
“What’s with that all of a sudden?! Are you in heat?! You’re like an inferior creature controlled by instinct! If you have a human form, at least show some minimal intelligence.”
Remietta lashed out, her voice sharp and scathing, as if trying to regain her composure.
But at the same time, I suddenly regained my composure.
Despite her harsh words, Remietta’s cheeks softened, and she seemed almost pleased.
It was as if being called “cute” had brought her immense happiness.
“…………”
“W-why don’t you try saying something back? Or are you too spineless to even do that?”
“Hey, Remietta.”
“W-what is it?”
I took a firm step forward and gently touched a strand of hair beside her cheek.
“H-hey! What do you think you’re doing, touching me without permission?!”
Despite her words, Remietta didn’t pull away.
Should I push my luck a little further? The thought had barely formed when…
“I hear voices over here!”
“An intruder?!”
“!!??”
We must have been making too much noise, because the sound of security guards rushing toward us echoed through the air.
“Damn it!”
“Stay close to me! Invisibility!”
Remietta grabbed my arm tightly and cast the same spell on me. In the next instant, security guards appeared at the back of the school building.
“…What? No one’s here.”
“Yeah. They probably just ran off. …We need to tighten security, especially after that incident.”
Despite standing right in front of them, the guards remained completely oblivious.
Remietta, holding her breath, gestured for me to move.
We silenced our footsteps and breathing, slipping past the guards and leaving the back of the school building.
However, our earlier shout seemed to have triggered the academy’s vaunted security network.
“This… For now, come to my room.”
“Huh?”
“You’re not allowed to go out at this time. We can’t let ourselves be found.”
“…Right.”
Without a plausible excuse for being out, any interrogation would inevitably expose our involvement in the recent incident.
Since the boys’ dormitory was quite far, my only option was to hide with Remietta, who could use invisibility magic, until the security calmed down.
We hurried to the nearby girls’ dormitory and Remietta’s room.
