A Time-Traveling Zombie Romance (GL) - Chapter 1
“Qi, let’s break up!” A woman in her early twenties with long hair turned her back to another woman of the same age.
“Hehe, Shan, you’re joking, right? Although that’s a funny joke, you can’t just say things like that!” Xiaoqi laughed nervously.
“I’m not joking. We’re breaking up.” Shan Shan turned around, her expression serious for the first time.
“You called me out here just to say this?” Xiaoqi’s heart sank; she sensed something major was about to happen.
“Yes. We’re breaking up.” Shan Shan repeated firmly.
“Why? Didn’t we agree to be together forever? Were all the promises we made meaningless?” Xiaoqi still couldn’t believe it.
“Because I already like someone else. Yes, all the promises I made before were lies. You were just imagining things; I never liked you. I only comforted you because I felt sorry for you,” Shan Shan said coldly.
“That’s impossible… Shan, tell me this isn’t true! It isn’t true, right? You love me, don’t you? Did something happen? We can face it together. Please, don’t say these things!” Xiaoqi stepped forward, gripping Shan Shan’s shoulders, her eyes desperate.
“It’s true. I never liked you.” Shan Shan turned her head, avoiding Xiaoqi’s tear-filled gaze.
“Shan… you’re here.” Suddenly, a black BMW approached. A handsome man in black sunglasses and a black suit stepped out. Seeing Shan Shan, he ran toward her excitedly.
“Yu!” Shan Shan ran into the man’s arms, embracing him passionately. Xiaoqi was stunned.
“This is my boyfriend, Wu Yu,” Shan Shan introduced him to Xiaoqi.
Boyfriend? What’s going on?
“Hello. Shan has told me everything about you. I hope you can leave her. I love her deeply, and we’ll be getting married soon,” Wu Yu said with a smile.
Marriage? The words pierced Xiaoqi’s heart like sharp daggers.
“No… Shan, you’re lying. You can’t not love me. You can’t…” Xiaoqi’s tears flowed uncontrollably as she shouted.
“I’m sorry. I hope you can forget me. We can’t be together,” Shan Shan said.
“Forget? How can I forget three years of love just like that?” Xiaoqi replied.
“We truly love each other. Shan loves me, and I love her. So I hope you’ll let us be together,” Wu Yu said, holding Shan Shan’s hand.
“You really don’t love me?” Xiaoqi asked.
“No.” Shan Shan said.
“Fine… then I wish you both happiness,” Xiaoqi gritted her teeth.
“Thank you. I hope you can attend our wedding,” Wu Yu said with a smile.
Xiaoqi didn’t answer. She turned and walked away, lost in a daze, her tears flowing freely, her heart aching.
Shan Shan watched Xiaoqi’s retreating figure, her eyes filled with regret. Her heart ached.
“Hehe… all those vows of forever, loyalty… were lies. They treated me like a fool, playing with my feelings,” Xiaoqi muttered to herself in a bar, drinking one bottle of beer after another over the past few days. She thought drinking would numb the pain, but as the poet Xiaobai said, “Raising a glass to drown sorrow only makes it deeper.”
Xiaoqi drank, memories of her time with Shan Shan flashing before her eyes.
“Qi, we’ll always be together, never parting.”
“Yes. Never parting. I’ll always love you.”
They leaned against each other, watching the sunset by the sea.
“Shan, please don’t leave me. Please.” Soon, Xiaoqi broke down in tears.
“I love you! Why do you want to be with that Wu Yu? Sniffle…”
After drinking some more, she left the bar with another bottle in hand, swaying as her vision blurred. Alcohol clouded her mind.
“Beep… beep…” A van sped toward her.
“Hey! You… little girl, move out of the way!” a drunken man shouted from the vehicle.
Xiaoqi didn’t hear, continuing to walk in the middle of the street.
The man’s vision blurred; drowsiness overtook him. His foot accidentally pressed the gas pedal, and the van sped toward Xiaoqi.
“Beep… crash!” Xiaoqi was hit, thrown several meters, landing in a pool of bl00d. Her body felt heavy, like falling into an endless black hole. She faintly heard ambulance sirens.
Xiaoqi opened her eyes to a silent, dark place, as if she were in a void.
“What’s happening? Ah!” She fell unconscious again.
Meanwhile, on Shan Shan and Wu Yu’s wedding night, Shan Shan inspected the venue. Xiaoqi wasn’t there, making her feel a pang of loss. They began to toast with friends.
A news broadcast caught Shan Shan’s attention: “Breaking news: around 8 PM tonight, a girl in her early twenties was hit by a van on XX Street and died on the spot. Her ID card identifies her as Zhang Xiaoqi.” The anchor switched to the scene. Shan Shan froze, staring at the lifeless girl on the screen. Her glass slipped and shattered. Everyone nearby looked at her.
Tears streamed down Shan Shan’s face as she ran out, ignoring everyone calling after her.
At the hospital, Shan Shan stared at Xiaoqi’s body, crying and saying, “Qi, wake up! I’m sorry. I actually love you. I love you! Please wake up. Don’t joke like this—it’s not funny. I said I’d never leave you. Please don’t go. I love you! My family just didn’t approve… I lied… I’m sorry… I’m sorry…” Shan Shan kept repeating ‘sorry,’ but it was too late; her beloved would never wake up.
Xiaoqi, however, felt warmth spreading through her body. Her eyes fluttered open, barely able to hear a woman’s pained cries.
After some time, she felt a force pulling her out. Her body became cool as she gradually opened her eyes.
Wait… Ancient times? How did this happen? Didn’t I die?
Before her was a slightly plump woman in traditional clothing, holding her. She kept saying, “Congratulations, madam, you’ve given birth to a baby girl.”
“What? A girl? I’ve been married to the master for eight years with no children. He hoped for a boy to carry on the Zhang family lineage. Now it’s a girl… he’ll be disappointed… what should I do? Oh, right, tell the midwife to say I had a little master,” the weak woman said.
“…Okay,” the midwife replied.
Xiaoqi looked down at her tiny body in shock. A baby? Did I transmigrate?
The midwife opened the door. Outside, a man urgently asked, “Has the madam given birth?”
The midwife bowed: “Congratulations, master, the madam has given birth to a little master.”
“Really? Haha! Finally, I have a son!” the man, Zhang Ming, shouted as he held Xiaoqi in his arms.
Xiaoqi saw the man’s handsome face and her eyes lit up.
“Madam, are you alright?” Zhang Ming asked.
“Yes, thank you for your concern. I am well,” the woman said. “Master, please give our child a name.”
Hearing about naming, Xiaoqi became very excited. She kept babbling “Qi,” but because she had no teeth, it sounded like baby talk.
A father knows his child. Zhang Ming heard the babbling and smiled: “Then let’s name him Xiaoqi. The madam is Xiaoyun, the little master will be Xiaoqi.”
Xiaoqi smiled, “Xiaoqi… Xiaoqi… sounds so nice.”
“Master, look! The little master is smiling, not crying. Surely he is a divine reincarnation,” the midwife said.
“Ha ha.” Everyone was filled with joy.
