A Time-Traveling Zombie Romance (GL) - Chapter 24
After returning to the inn, I told everyone, “I have identified the culprit who killed Lady Jin, and they have already been locked up in the prison.”
“You stingy one, who is the culprit?” Qing Yang asked.
“The culprit is Magistrate Jin and the courtesan Liuli of the Hongchen Brothel,” I said, hands behind my back.
“Ah?!! How could it be Magistrate Jin? He killed his own wife?” Si Qing exclaimed in shock.
“He was willing to listen to Liuli’s manipulations for the sake of … and even killed his wife, so that Liuli could become Lady Jin,” I explained.
Si Qing sighed, “Ah, poor Lady Jin!~~”
“Now that Lady Jin’s matter has been handled, we need to focus on finding an antidote. Tomorrow is the last day,” Meng Hui said.
At the mention of the antidote, everyone’s expressions immediately grew serious.
By the third night, I sat on the rooftop, holding a cup of wine and drinking. It was the last day, and I still hadn’t figured out a way to cure the poison. What should I do?
Lin Ji sat beside me, gazing at the faintly glowing moon. “Young master, if I truly die, you must make sure someone takes good care of my mother. The moon tonight is so full and bright — it may be the last time I see it.”
I looked up. “Yes, tonight’s moon is truly bright.”
Lin Ji continued, “The place where Lady Jin was buried is nice as well, bathed in moonlight, so she won’t feel lonely. Still, her grave should be properly maintained in the future.”
“Yes, it really is a good place, with the moon shining on it,” I said, sighing. Suddenly, a flash of insight struck me. “Moonlight? Open space? Strange corpse?!!!”
I jumped in surprise and quickly opened Lin Ji’s hand, noticing that his nails had all turned black.
“Huh? Just a moment ago they were normal — why are my nails black?” Lin Ji asked in astonishment.
“Strange corpse! Strange corpse! I understand now — I know how to save you all,” I said, laughing, leaping down from the rooftop, and rushing into the room. “I’ve figured out a way to save you.”
“What way?” Meng Hui asked, quickly standing.
“I need to go to Lady Jin’s grave first,” I said.
“Junior brother, I’ll go with you,” Yun Xi said, uneasy.
“All right, senior sister. Time is short; we must move quickly before it’s too late.” With that, Yun Xi and I used lightness skills to fly out of the city.
After about half an hour, we arrived not far from Lady Jin’s tomb. The moonlight shone perfectly on it. I hurriedly pulled Yun Xi toward the grave, but the next scene froze us in place.
The tomb began to change slowly. Stones on top fell off, and suddenly a hand rose from the earth, then another. A person slowly emerged from the soil, filthy but recognizable — it was Lady Jin. A chill radiated from her body, and the stench of decay filled the air. Her aura was unmistakably of the same kind as the strange corpses, yet her eyes were green.
I was shocked. “It’s over… Lady Jin has become a strange corpse.”
Yun Xi, confused, asked, “Strange corpse?”
Lady Jin, upon seeing us, seemed to see a delicious prey, and rushed at us with incredible speed.
We split up to surround her, me on one side, Yun Xi on the other.
“Senior sister, watch out…” I began, but before I could finish, Lady Jin lunged at Yun Xi. Yun Xi drew her sword and fought, but Lady Jin seemed endless in strength, falling and rising repeatedly. I drew my sword and joined the battle.
After some time, Lady Jin was covered with sword wounds, yet remained vigorous. Yun Xi was sweating heavily, breathing labored, and I, though seemingly limitless in strength, was also covered with injuries. The pain burned sharply, forcing me to gasp for breath.
“Senior sister, mortals cannot defeat strange corpses. Step back,” I said to Yun Xi, slightly out of breath.
“Junior brother, be careful,” Yun Xi said, worried. I gave her a reassuring look.
I gripped my sword tightly and stepped forward. Suddenly, my eyes turned red, fangs extended, black smoke rolled from my body, and a chilling aura erupted. I felt as if endless power surged within me.
I roared at Lady Jin, “Hrrr!”
She was momentarily startled, but then her fangs also lengthened, and she roared back.
“How dare you roar at me? Brave,” I said bloodthirstily, licking my fangs with my tongue. In an instant, faster than the eye could see, I stabbed at her.
The moonlight shone directly above Lady Jin. At that moment, she transformed into a silver longsword from somewhere, blocking my strike and countering. I dodged, avoiding injury but tearing my clothes.
I paused briefly, glanced at the bright moon, and muttered, “Strange corpses really are perverse.”
At that instant, Lady Jin teleported before me. “Ah! Junior brother, careful!” Yun Xi shouted. I dodged, letting her attack miss, and struck again. This time, I cut off her left arm. In pain, she cried out and dropped the silver sword, smashing a punch toward my left chest.
Pain shot through my chest; I spat out bl00d uncontrollably. “Pphh… cough cough…”
“Junior brother!” Yun Xi rushed to push Lady Jin back and held me.
“Cough… senior sister, it’s fine. Don’t worry. It’s nothing,” I said, catching my breath while coughing out some bl00d.
“Fine? You’re already coughing bl00d!” Yun Xi almost cried.
Lady Jin raised her hands to the sky, whispered some unintelligible incantations to the moon, and suddenly ten clones of her appeared. They surrounded us, raising weapons.
After I caught my breath, I drew my sword again and joined Yun Xi to fight them.
After some time, we had destroyed five of the ten clones. Yun Xi was exhausted, bleeding from many wounds. I still seemed unendingly strong, but my body was covered in injuries; the pain burned, forcing me to gasp for cool air.
“Senior sister, this isn’t working. We need to find the real Lady Jin among the five,” I said, supporting Yun Xi.
“Mm,” she weakly nodded.
Suddenly, one of the five stabbed me from behind. “Junior brother, watch out!” Yun Xi blocked it with her back.
The silver sword pierced through her abdomen and mine simultaneously.
“Sen… senior sister!” I was shocked, ignoring the stabbing pain in my stomach, and turned to strike the attacker’s head. The clone died, and the other four disappeared.
I withdrew my bloodied sword, covered in both our bl00d.
“Senior sister, hang in there, I will save you,” I said, lifting Yun Xi into my arms to seek shelter from the rain.
“Senior sister, hold on, stay with me,” she murmured weakly, gripping my neck with one hand while pressing on the wound from which bl00d flowed, her eyes half-closed, face pale. I nearly slipped several times on the wet mountain path, weakened by my own injuries and the severe pain in my abdomen. My eyes and teeth had returned to normal.
Soon, I found a cave and ran into it, carrying Yun Xi without a second thought…
