A Time-Traveling Zombie Romance (GL) - Chapter 26
I pushed open Yun Xi’s room door and ran inside. I saw her still lying on the bed, and Si Qing crouched by the bedside, crying.
I froze on the spot, unable to take another step. Si Qing immediately hugged me, sobbing, “Brother… is Sister Yun dead? Is she beyond saving?”
“No, senior sister won’t die. I clearly let her be poisoned, how is she still alive? Could the book have been wrong? No, that’s impossible!” I stared at Yun Xi on the bed, speaking nonsense in panic.
“Brother, what poison? What book?” Si Qing asked, letting go of me, confused.
I didn’t answer. Slowly, I stepped forward and softly called out, “Senior sister…”
No response. “Senior sister!”
Still no response. “Senior sister, wake up…” I was on the verge of collapse, unable to believe any of this was real. Tears streamed down as I pushed Yun Xi gently.
“Cheer up, don’t dwell on it,” Qing Yang stepped forward to console me.
“Who said senior sister is dead? She’s not dead! She’s alive!” I cried, shaking my head and calling out again: “Senior sister!”
At that moment, Yun Xi seemed to hear my voice; her right hand fingers twitched slightly, and I noticed it.
“But Mr. Mu said Miss Yun Xi was beyond saving,” Qing Yang said.
“Mr. Mu?! Which Mr. Mu said that? Look, she’s alive! She just moved!!!” I said, initially confused, but seeing her stir, hope returned to my heart.
“What!!? Sister Yun is alive!!? How is this…” Si Qing rushed to Yun Xi’s side, shouting, “Sister Yun! Sister Yun!”
Yun Xi’s eyelashes fluttered slightly.
“Sister Yun, you’re really alive?!!” Si Qing’s voice was full of joy and surprise.
“What? The dead can come back to life?” Qing Yang said incredulously.
After a while, Yun Xi slowly opened her eyes and looked at all of us.
“I… where am I? Junior brother, didn’t I die?” Yun Xi weakly asked.
“Senior sister, you didn’t die, you didn’t die,” I said, wiping the tears from my face, smiling as I shook my head.
“Junior brother… you cried?” Yun Xi asked, slightly moved, attempting to sit up to wipe my tears, but moving caused pain from her injuries, and she had to lie back down.
“Senior sister, you just woke up. Don’t move too much, or you’ll hurt your wounds,” I said urgently.
“Senior sister, so you’re not dead!” Si Qing wiped her tears and held Yun Xi’s hand, smiling happily.
“Mm,” Yun Xi returned a faint smile.
“I’ll fetch a doctor to check on you. A dead person coming back to life is truly remarkable,” Qing Yang said, immediately leaving the room.
“I’ll get the servants to prepare some rice porridge. You two haven’t eaten for almost a day,” Si Qing said, leaving the room and closing the door behind her.
With them gone, I sat on the edge of the bed. Yun Xi tried to sit up again, so I brought a pillow for her to lean against.
“Senior sister, slowly…”
“Junior brother, how are your injuries?” Yun Xi asked with concern.
“I’m fine, I’m fine. My injuries are much better,” I smiled.
“Senior sister, I’m so glad you didn’t die. I thought you… ah, it’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have brought you there; you almost lost your life,” I lowered my head, scolding myself.
I felt a weight on my shoulder. Looking to the side, I realized Yun Xi’s head was resting on my shoulder. I wanted to move but feared hurting her wounds, so I stayed frozen.
“Junior brother, I don’t blame you. Everything that happened was my choice,” Yun Xi said softly.
“Ah… senior sister, why must you do this now?” I sighed, holding her gently.
“Cough… hmmph.” At that moment, Qing Yang pushed open the door. Seeing Yun Xi and me like this, a hint of jealousy flashed in her heart.
Hearing Qing Yang, we both immediately sat up straight.
“Miss, you’re alive?” Li Shaomin, Xu Rui, Zhu Chao, and the others were shocked to see Yun Xi.
“Yes,” Yun Xi nodded slightly.
“Miss Yun, I’ve called Mr. Mu to check your pulse,” Qing Yang said. From behind the crowd, a refined and handsome young man stepped forward. He wore cyan robes, held a folding fan, and had a slight smirk. His eyes sparkled with intelligence. His eyebrows were long and slanted, almost reaching his hairline. His nose was straight, and he exuded a slight roguish charm.
I was stunned as I heard Mu Jinyi introduce himself: “I am Mu Jinyi, a physician. In the mountains, I encountered a few guards and saved the young master and the young lady.”
“Mr. Mu, please examine my senior sister,” I said calmly.
“Very well.” Mu Jinyi took a handkerchief from his chest and placed it on Yun Xi’s wrist, carefully checking her pulse.
“Hmm, astonishing… previously, I checked this young lady and found no sign of life. Why now is there a pulse? Could… miracles really exist?” Mu Jinyi marveled.
“Senior sister… is she okay?” I asked.
“This young lady has escaped mortal danger. Her injuries, however, require careful tending. I believe in no more than two months she will fully recover. The young master’s injuries are similar,” Mu Jinyi said with a smile.
Qing Yang added, “Yes, Mr. Mu checked her pulse this morning and said she would awaken soon. Indeed, she woke within half an hour.”
“Oh? Checking the pulse?” I narrowed my eyes and looked at Mu Jinyi closely.
Mu Jinyi said nothing, only smiled faintly.
“Brother…” Si Qing entered the room carrying two bowls of porridge.
“Mm, just place it on the table. Thank you, Qing’er,” I smiled at her.
“You’re welcome,” Si Qing returned a sweet smile.
“By the way, how are Qi and the others?”
“Reporting to young master, after taking the antidote, the poison in their bodies has largely subsided,” Xu Rui said, bowing.
“Good, that’s a relief,” I sighed. “It’s almost noon. I’ll pretend to be unwell and skip the execution supervision. Shaomin and Zhu Chao can go in my place.”
“Yes!”
“Nothing else, you may all leave. Mr. Mu, stay behind…” I said, staring at Mu Jinyi.
After everyone else left, only Yun Xi, Mu Jinyi, and I remained in the room.
“Junior brother, why did you keep Mr. Mu?” Yun Xi asked, puzzled.
“To check the pulse…” I said briefly, and Yun Xi immediately understood, nodding.
“Mr. Mu, I won’t beat around the bush. You already know I’m a woman. How do you intend to keep this secret?” I said calmly.
“You assume I would reveal your secret?” Mu Jinyi sat down, crossing his legs casually.
“If not?” I asked.
“I won’t just keep it secret; I’ll help you guard it,” Mu Jinyi sipped his tea.
“Why should I believe you?”
“Because I also disguise myself as a man.”
I was a bit taken aback. It was hard to tell that Mu Jinyi was a woman in disguise.
“Cough… disguising as a man is fine, but if my secret is exposed, it won’t just be a scolding,” I said, clearing my throat.
“So how can I earn your trust?” Mu Jinyi raised an eyebrow.
“Stay by my side until I trust you.”
“And if I refuse?” Mu Jinyi smiled, playing with his teacup.
“Then you’ll die!” I said with deadly intent.
“Do you really think you can kill me?” Mu Jinyi still smiled.
“Whether I can or not, try me,” I teased.
“Fine, I’ll stay by your side, but you cannot order me around,” Mu Jinyi said.
“Agreed,” I nodded.
Deal made, Mu Jinyi left the room…
“Junior brother, why keep Mr. Mu by your side?” Yun Xi asked.
“She knows my secret. She’s a physician — if we’re injured, she can treat us immediately. She’s mysterious, and I believe she has more skills than this one. Keeping her close will be beneficial,” I explained slowly to Yun Xi.
“Mmm, that makes sense,” Yun Xi nodded.
Suddenly, the room fell silent. Very silent.
“Junior brother.”
“Hm?”
“Do you remember the promise I made to you?” Yun Xi suddenly smirked mischievously. “Do you like me?”
“……”
