A Time-Traveling Zombie Romance (GL) - Chapter 27
“Do you like me?”
“……”
I was silent. Now I knew my own heart, but it contained feelings for two people at once.
“Alright… I understand the answer,” Yunxi said, disappointed.
“No, no, that’s not it,” I hurriedly replied.
“Then, junior brother… what do you mean?”
I took a deep breath, leaned in, embraced Yunxi, and kissed her. The kiss was deep, intoxicating, lingering.
Yunxi froze, feeling the softness of my lips. Seeing my face so close, she felt something even softer pry past her teeth and enter her mouth, moving with her tongue. She instinctively wrapped her arms around my neck, closed her eyes, and deepened the kiss with me. Though inexperienced, her kiss was heartfelt, and I was lost in it.
After a long moment, when Yunxi struggled to breathe, I reluctantly pulled away. “Senior sister, this is my answer,” I said with a smile.
Yunxi panted, her cheeks tinged pink.
“Junior brother, you…”
“But… there’s still someone else in my heart,” I quickly added.
Yunxi paused slightly, leaning against my chest, wrapping her arms around my waist. “I don’t mind if there’s someone else in your heart. As long as I have a place there, even as small as a speck of dust, I am content. I don’t ask for your love; I just want to see you every day. Junior brother, when I first saw you at the temple gate at six years old, you left me impressed — you were so beautiful. Later, meeting you at night and setting off fireworks together made me so happy. When we faced the Corpse King, you risked your life to save me, and after escaping, I immediately called the master to save you. I only knew then that I couldn’t bear to lose you — if you died, I would have felt guilty forever. When you were infected and became a zombie, and almost ended your own life to spare me, I was deeply moved. When you stayed in the mountains after becoming a disciple, I was overjoyed because I could see you every day and play with you. You were strong and brave as a child, enduring hardships, rarely crying, but I knew you feared being wronged and yet bore it alone. So I vowed to protect you for life. At ten, before sunrise, when you said that sentence, I realized I had fallen for you, but I was too afraid to tell you, fearing rejection, and kept my feelings buried. If not for last night’s life-and-death moment, I wouldn’t have revealed my secret, nor would we be here now. I’m grateful… that you like me too, aren’t you?”
I held Yunxi and listened quietly. Finally, I sighed and said, “I will not betray your heart. We will stay together forever, mutually devoted, never abandoning one another.”
Yunxi lifted her head, staring at me for a long while, tears streaming down. Finally, she heard the words she had waited six years to hear. Overwhelmed with happiness, she whispered, “I will not betray your feelings. Together forever, never leaving or abandoning each other.”
I laughed, deeply joyful. We held each other tightly, exchanging vows of eternal companionship, unbreakable even between two women.
“By the way, senior sister, you haven’t eaten, right? Qing’er asked someone to make you some porridge.” I remembered and went to the table to pick up a bowl. “Oh, it’s cold. I’ll warm it up.”
Carrying two bowls, I stepped out.
Yunxi felt a warmth in her heart, smiling to herself. But she noticed her nails had blackened — a sign of how she had been revived. It was a drastic measure, but it allowed us to be together forever.
“Perhaps… this is the price,” she murmured.
Just then, I returned. “Senior sister… the porridge is ready,” I said with a smile.
“Junior brother, you still call me senior sister?” Yunxi laughed upon seeing me.
“Hehe, Xi’er,” I said, scratching my head. “Come, Xi’er, I’ll feed you.”
“Qier hasn’t eaten either. Let’s eat together,” Yunxi suggested.
“That’s fine. You eat first, I’ll eat after,” I said.
“No, if you don’t eat, I won’t eat either.”
“…Alright, fine.” I relented, and we fed each other spoonfuls until both bowls were empty.
After eating, I said to Yunxi, “Xi’er, I’ll give you this book. Now you can randomly become a Corpse King. Your status is second to none.” I handed her a book.
“Hehe, okay,” Yunxi said. I then took the empty bowl and left the room…
When I returned to my own room, the door was open, and Menghui was inside. I froze in shock, unsure whether to step in.
“Meng… Menghui, what are you doing here?”
Hearing the door open, Menghui turned and saw me frozen. “I wanted to thank you.”
“Thank me? For what?” I asked, curious, stepping inside.
“For saving Chen’er’s life,” she said gravely.
“Hehe, it’s nothing,” I said lightly. As long as she was happy, I would preserve her life even at my own expense.
“And… are your injuries okay?” Menghui asked hesitantly.
“Hehe, yes… much better. Look.” I moved slightly to show her. I smiled faintly despite the lingering pain.
Menghui didn’t press further, instead pulling a small porcelain vial from her waist. “This is high-quality medicine. Take it and apply it.”
“Thank you,” I said, touched, staring at her.
“You’re welcome,” Menghui murmured nervously. “I’ll return to my room now.”
“Say hello to Qi-ge for me,” I smiled.
“Mm.”
Meanwhile, Qi Yichen, outside my room, listened to our conversation. At my last words, he clenched his fists in anger. Zhang Xiaoqi, are you challenging me? I will never give Meng’er to you. Just wait. He hurried off before Menghui left.
The next day, Mu Jinyi came to check my injuries. “Why… your chest is flat?”
“……”
“When I was young, the master used medicine to flatten my chest,” I said.
“What kind of medicine is so miraculous?” Mu Jinyi’s eyes gleamed.
“Don’t even think about it. It only works in childhood. Now that your chest is fully developed, it can’t be flattened,” I said teasingly, glancing at hers.
“Tch, I don’t care anyway,” Mu Jinyi said, indifferent.
I removed my outer clothes and top, half-naked, letting her examine me. All my sword wounds had healed completely, leaving no scars — except for the deep abdominal wound, which still had a stitched incision.
Mu Jinyi was astonished. “Your recovery is faster than I imagined — incredible! At this rate, within three days, you’ll heal fully without a trace of injury. Zhang Xiaoqi, are you even human?”
“Nonsense,” I said impatiently. “Of course not. I’m a zombie.”
Later, Mu Jinyi came with me to check Yunxi’s room. She insisted on removing Yunxi’s clothes “for safety.”
“Mu Jinyi!! If you dare touch Xi’er’s clothes, I swear I’ll end you right here!” I shouted.
“Cough cough, alright, just the pulse then,” Mu Jinyi said, withdrawing her hands and looking embarrassed.
She ended up holding Yunxi’s small hand. “Look how white and tender her hands are!”
I grabbed Mu Jinyi by the collar. “Mu Jinyi, have you forgotten yourself? Or… do you think your life is too long? I can help you with that.” I teased while pulling out her handkerchief.
“Cough cough, hehe, sorry, I forgot,” Mu Jinyi said, immediately behaving. Yunxi laughed quietly beside her.
At last, I realized — this was truly inviting trouble into our midst!
Yunxi’s pulse confirmed, like mine, that her injuries had mostly healed. Mu Jinyi sighed in awe: “Not human, not human! How can they be so… inhuman?”
Of course, she was promptly scolded again and kicked out of Yunxi’s room.
