A Time-Traveling Zombie Romance (GL) - Chapter 29
I chased after that dark figure for a long time, until I reached the depths of the forest—but the shadow had vanished.
“Damn, he got away,” I muttered, kicking a stone in frustration, then turned back along the path.
Meanwhile, as the shadow escaped, he had turned a corner and arrived at a hidden spot, speaking to someone else.
“Hall Master,” the man in black said, bowing.
“Slap!” The other person struck him across the face.
If you had walked closer, you would have seen that this person was none other than Qi Yichen!
“Who told you to hide so close? Luckily, Zhang Xiaoqi didn’t catch you this time, or you’d be dead ten times over,” Qi Yichen scolded.
“My oversight, Master. But my lord instructed me to deliver a message,” the black-clad man said, still bowing his head.
“Speak,” Qi Yichen said, taking a deep breath.
“My lord instructs you, Hall Master, to kill the Fourth Prince’s heir, Zhang Xiaoqi, as soon as possible,” the black-clad man reported.
“Understood. You may leave.”
“Yes.” The black-clad man suddenly vanished with a “whoosh.”
When I returned, everyone was on alert. Qi Yichen had also rejoined the group, expressionless as ever.
“The dark figure disappeared just now. It seems we shouldn’t linger here. Let’s travel tonight,” I said, frowning.
“Yes.”
Everyone quickly packed their things, boarded the carriage, and left the area.
Three days later…
We arrived at Xinghai Town. The town was bustling in the morning, but by nightfall, every door was tightly shut. The lively atmosphere of the day was gone. Evil energy lingered in the streets, even the breeze felt chilling, and there wasn’t a single soul outside.
In the morning, we found an inn and booked seven upper rooms.
While a servant was arranging my room, I looked out at the busy streets below. I smiled: “Little Brother, Xinghai Town is really lively.”
“Yes, Young Master. Xinghai is very busy during the day,” the servant smiled.
“And at night, it’s not lively?” I asked.
At the mention of night, the servant’s hand trembled slightly. Seeing that no one else was around, he approached and whispered: “Young Master, you must be new to Xinghai Town, right?”
“Yes, why?”
“That explains it. Xinghai Town is notorious. There’s a monster that comes out every night, eating people. Now, everyone stays indoors after dark. A few bold young men tried to confront it, but the monster dismembered them in the streets. Later, the magistrate hired several Taoists and monks to exorcise it, but they were eaten too…” the servant sighed.
“A monster?” I asked, understanding why the town felt so off.
“Yes, Young Master. I advise you not to go out at night. Someone as young and handsome as you might become its next meal.”
“Thank you for the warning, Little Brother,” I said, bowing.
“You’re welcome! If there’s anything, just tell me,” the servant said, scratching his head nervously.
“Mm, alright,” I nodded, smiling.
After he left, I sat on the bed and began meditating, practicing my cultivation techniques.
Qi Yichen’s room was a single room. Normally, it was just her, but now, many black-clad figures had inexplicably appeared inside. Their faces were covered, but I could sense a faint murderous aura emanating from them.
Qi Yichen, however, sat calmly on a stool, drinking tea, seemingly planning something.
Night fell. The streets emptied gradually, and Xinghai Town at night was bleak, even more frightening than the servant described. But for me… it was inconsequential.
Late at night, a sudden sound came from Qi Yichen’s room.
“Who’s there!!” With Qi Yichen’s shout, everyone was startled and rushed to her room.
I pushed open the door and saw Qi Yichen fighting the black-clad men. When the windows and door opened, the black-clad men scattered, and Qi Yichen gave chase. I wanted to call out to her, but it was too late. I had no choice but to follow.
Upon hearing the fight, Meng Hui also ran to Qi Yichen’s room. Seeing me leap out, she hesitated, then quickly followed.
I chased them into the woods outside the town, hearing distant sounds of combat. Using lightness skills, I pressed forward.
Qi Yichen was fiercely engaged with the black-clad men, and I joined the fight.
During the skirmish, I slashed a black-clad man’s arm, while Qi Yichen was cut on her arm and back knee. The wounds were deep, and bl00d flowed freely.
Seeing the effect, Qi Yichen gave a subtle signal. The black-clad men began to flee.
Qi Yichen gritted her teeth and shouted, “Don’t run!!!”
Seeing the men flee, Qi Yichen, still bleeding from her injuries, wanted to pursue. I hurriedly said, “Qi brother, you’re hurt. Better not chase them.” I supported her to prevent her from falling.
Qi Yichen withdrew from my grasp, stepped back, but lost her balance and knelt on one knee. In a spot I couldn’t see, the corners of her mouth curved into a faint smile.
“What are you two doing?” A familiar voice suddenly came from behind. I froze…
