A White Cloud (GL ABO) - Chapter 59.1
Xiaomi left the charity gala and headed straight out of the hotel, ignoring Yuan Jin chasing after her.
After escaping the clingy rich girls, Yuan Jin followed Xiaomi’s steps outside.
“Zhiman! Zhiman!” Yuan Jin called.
Yuan Jin wore leather shoes, far more practical than Xiaomi’s heels.
In a few steps, she caught up to Xiaomi heading out.
“Zhiman, Zhiman!” Yuan Jin grabbed her wrist anxiously. “Zhiman, listen to me, Zhiman!”
More people trickled out of the hotel.
Xiaomi glanced at the time.
Their stares felt conspicuous.
Not wanting to linger, she stepped aside and pulled her hand free. “Yuan Jin, what do you want to say?” she asked.
Her words lacked emotion, distant like a stranger’s.
Yuan Jin suppressed the sharp pain in her heart, rubbing her hands nervously.
Since learning that Xiaomi would attend this event, she told her father she wanted to come, just to see her.
But face-to-face, her prepared words faltered.
The lab-hardened woman grew tense and unsure.
“Zhiman,” Yuan Jin said, lowering her head and gazing at the face she hadn’t seen in ages.
“Zhiman, I will find Xiaohua,” she promised.
Xiaomi looked up, surprised, her furrowed brow filled with disbelief and disappointment.
After Yuan Jin’s parents lost hope, Xiaomi tirelessly searched.
She contacted rescue centers and shelters, keeping Xiaohua’s childhood photos.
Detectives scoured the masses, but all efforts sank like stones in the sea, without a ripple.
Yuan Jin understood her disappointment’s source.
She reached for her hand but withdrew when Xiaomi visibly rejected her.
Her eyes held resolve and sincerity.
She pursed her lips and repeated, “Trust me, I will find Xiaohua.”
Yuan Jin’s recent project shone brightly.
She freely used Yunding’s channels to monitor and track pheromones without compensation.
If news came, Yunding would notify her first.
Since the institute’s data was confidential, she’d find a way to access it herself.
Yuan Jin and Xiaohua weren’t twins, but they came from the same womb, sharing similar pheromone genes and identical γ-2 molecules in their biology.
This hereditary molecule, passed through the mother’s womb across generations, appeared in all children after its first occurrence—an inevitable event.
Yuan Jin learned about it by chance from a foreign obstetric expert.
Since γ-2 molecules didn’t affect mothers, they existed only in genetics, not even considered rare. Medicine called it a “useless gift.”
But after discovering she inherited her great-grandmother’s γ-2 molecule, Yuan Jin realized its uniqueness.
Even if Xiaohua failed to differentiate or had differentiation issues, Yuan Jin could search for the same γ-2 molecule in bl00d samples from anyone tested.
In Huajing, or all of Huaguo, every citizen faced at least one bl00d draw for school, work, medical care, or daily life.
“You’re searching for a needle in a haystack, Yuan Jin,” Xiaomi laughed at her naivety.
“What if Xiaohua never had her bl00d drawn? What if Xiaohua…” She trailed off, her silence filling in the rest.
What if Xiaohua was already dead?
Suddenly, Yuan Jin grabbed her hand.
“Zhiman, we’ll find Xiaohua. Let’s not break up, okay?” she pleaded.
The Alpha humbled herself, believing solving this would fix everything.
Xiaomi felt she was a stranger, using her sister as a bargaining chip for reconciliation.
A flashy car approached from afar, its bold blue striking even from a distance.
Xiaomi pushed Yuan Jin’s hand away, stood by the road, and spoke with her back to her.
“Yuan Jin, even if we find Xiaohua, we must part,” she said.
“Why?!” Yuan Jin grabbed her in desperation.
Su Jue stepped out of the driver’s seat, her heart sinking at their tug-of-war.
Damn it, she’s using me again!
