A White Cloud (GL ABO) - Chapter 59.2
Thirty minutes earlier.
Su Jue, off work and heading to a nightclub, got into her car when she received Xiaomi’s “rescue message.”
Though labeled as a rescue, the sender seemed clear-headed, providing an exact address and time.
Thinking they were friends, Su Jue didn’t overthink it.
Despite saying doctors shouldn’t befriend patients or get too close privately, her mentor Shen Zhiqing’s encouragement and her own damned pity kept her from transferring Xiaomi’s case.
“She’s so extreme, if I pass her to Teacher, he’ll grow more gray hair,” Su Jue reasoned, convincing herself it was a minor issue.
But after falling into Xiaomi’s traps twice, Su Jue decided she needed to act—either transfer Xiaomi’s case or cut private ties.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t face this awkwardness, guiltily clarifying she was just her doctor.
“Uh… you two talk, I’ll wait in the car,” she said.
Su Jue ducked back into the car, thankful she brought Xiaomi’s forgotten report from last time, or she’d have no excuse.
Another day celebrating her quick thinking.
But those outside didn’t see it that way.
Xiaomi showed no dissatisfaction with her actions—after all, she’d “tricked” Su Jue into coming.
Recalling her deliberate act at the hospital and Yuan Jin’s darkened expression, Xiaomi knew her goal was achieved.
She didn’t mind friends telling Yuan Jin about her life.
The more Yuan Jin knew, the clearer her firm stance became.
When an enraged Yuan Jin tried to tarnish their relationship with accusations, Xiaomi didn’t deny it.
“Zhiman, is this why?” Yuan Jin, less familiar with Su Jue, knew she was Xiaomi’s doctor and an Alpha.
Blinded briefly by jealousy, Yuan Jin seized this as an attack point, lashing out to paint herself as the innocent victim.
Perhaps she needed a reason to let go.
If so, Xiaomi grew sure of her decision.
Unhealthy obsession and entanglement would only drain them.
A cool night breeze brushed her arms.
Xiaomi saw a child limping in the distance, a heavy backpack on her shoulders, followed by older boys.
They teased, holding stolen toys, and deliberately knocked her down as they ran off laughing.
The child, clearly used to it, stood up, brushed dirt from her pants, and silently headed home, fading from Xiaomi’s view.
Xiaomi refocused, glancing at Su Jue shrinking in the car.
Staying out of it was wise.
She turned, pushed Yuan Jin’s hand away again, and spoke calmly without meeting her eyes.
“Yuan Jin, when did you know about this?” she asked.
“Zhiman…”
Yuan Jin froze, then quickly reacted, her hand at her side clenching into a fist.
Xiaomi read the answer in her reaction, offering a faint smile.
How ironic; while she desperately searched for Xiaohua, Yuan Jin hid it from her.
“That’s it, then,” Xiaomi said, walking down the curb in her heels without looking back.
Under Yuan Jin’s gaze, she got into the car.
Once seated, the flashy car sped off, leaving the scene behind.
As they turned into another street, Su Jue relaxed, the intense gaze that felt like it could swallow her finally gone.
Damn, too scary! She hated being stared at by an Alpha like that!
In the silent car, Su Jue grumbled inwardly.
A faint voice beside her spoke.
“Sorry, I troubled you to come out,” Xiaomi said.
Was this just a trip?
This was like putting kind-hearted her on a chopping block to be torn apart!
Su Jue pouted, glancing sidelong at the lifeless figure.
“It’s not trouble, but next time, for something this thankless, can you give me a heads-up?” she said awkwardly.
The more she spoke, the more worked up she got.
Thinking of Xia An’s indescribable look in the hospital parking lot recently, Su Jue felt utterly miserable.
She couldn’t hold it against Xiaomi.
Professionally, she was her doctor; personally, they were sort of friends.
But couldn’t she get a warning? Her public image was tarnished!
Xiaomi smiled apologetically, giving her a look.
Su Jue understood—she’d dare do it again!
Heavens, was there no justice?
“Su Jue,” Xiaomi called.
“What!” Su Jue, still upset, snapped.
Xiaomi hadn’t given a destination, so she drove aimlessly, too annoyed to ask.
Xiaomi leaned back in the seat.
Though sorry, she didn’t apologize further. She found Su Jue’s soft-hearted nature rather nice.
She closed her eyes, one hand rubbing her nose bridge, the other propping her face against the window.
Casually, she asked, “Do you know about γ-2?”
“Why ask?” Su Jue responded instinctively.
“No reason, just recalled a foreign professor’s lecture at med school,” Xiaomi said lightly.
Su Jue thought back, recalling a project from a school exchange years ago.
“You mean Professor Buell? That was five years ago, and you remember? Did you accompany her to campus?” she asked.
Su Jue’s mentor, a guest professor, returned yearly for lectures.
She often assisted with tasks, so she knew the school well.
“Mm…” Xiaomi replied faintly, giving an address before falling silent.
The car reached the neighborhood but was stopped at the gate.
Xiaomi thanked her and prepared to get out.
“Are you sure you can be alone right now?” Su Jue asked, concerned professionally.
This looked like Xiaomi’s home, and she doubted her current state.
Xiaomi’s pale face held a smile, her lips colorless.
She nodded with a gentle smile.
“Yes, don’t worry. I feel okay now,” she said.
“Besides, if anything happens, I’ll call you, right?”
True, her self-rescue response had improved.
Su Jue, worn out by her, gave a few instructions and left, not mentioning being used as a scapegoat.
On the way back, she decided Shen Zhiqing owed her two shifts for this tool-person role.
Xiaomi sat in the pavilion downstairs, the night wind howling.
Insects chased in the grass, and she dismissed the patrolling security.
She sat, letting the darkness shroud her in shadows.
The chilly breeze made her shiver, but it paled against the coldness of those words.
“You remember something from five years ago.”
“Zhiman, I’ll find Xiaohua.”
So, Yuan Jin hid it from her for five years.
