Chapter 14: We Should Get Married
“I just ran into her,” Jiang Ci explained.
Jiang Lan sipped her milk tea, gently nudged Liu Xiting with her arm, and said, “Speak a bit more tactfully.”
Liu Xiting looked down at her and cautiously said, “Alright.”
Jiang Ci glanced at Little Aunt, suddenly wanting to facepalm.
Now she reminds Aunt Liu to speak tactfully, but earlier in the elevator, she wasn’t tactful at all.
These two are truly a match made in heaven.
After chatting a bit, everyone left the hospital together.
As usual, Jiang Lan mentioned that Jiang Ci should drive Dr. Gu home. Jiang Ci casually asked, but Dr. Gu, as always, refused without hesitation. So, everyone silently prepared to part ways. But then Dr. Xu suddenly chimed in, “Dr. Gu, I drove here. I can take you home.”
“No need, I’ll take a taxi.”
Gu Feiran refused bluntly, leaving no room for further invitations.
But Dr. Xu was unusually persistent. “It’s late, taking a taxi isn’t convenient, and it’s not safe for a girl to go home alone. Let me drive you.”
Gu Feiran said, “It’s fine, I live close by.”
Xu Zhen replied, “My car’s parked right in front of the building. It’s just a quick turn, very fast. Let me drive you.”
Gu Feiran said, “Really, no need.”
Xu Zhen said, “I’ll go get the car now.”
Gu Feiran: “…”
The other three froze, looking at Dr. Xu.
It was the first time they saw someone keep insisting after being rejected. It showed some character, but for someone who didn’t want it, this was no different from harassment.
Though they pretended not to know each other in front of outsiders, Liu Xiting still sided with her family’s kid. She held Jiang Lan’s hand, walked back, and said, “Since taking a taxi isn’t convenient, Xiao Ci, you drove, right? You take this doctor home.”
“Alright.” Jiang Ci was happy to help, though she figured Dr. Gu probably didn’t want her to drive her.
Gu Feiran didn’t want anyone to drive her, but since Little Aunt spoke, she couldn’t reject her kindness. She nodded and said, “Okay.”
The moment she agreed, Jiang Ci instinctively glanced at Aunt Liu.
In the few days since meeting Gu Feiran, they hadn’t talked much, but Jiang Ci knew she was stubborn. If she didn’t want something, no one could interfere.
In this situation, even if Aunt Liu asked Jiang Ci to drive her, with Gu Feiran’s personality, she’d likely insist on taking a taxi. Yet, she agreed to Aunt Liu without hesitation.
Could it be… she likes Aunt Liu?
Jiang Ci was startled by this sudden thought, but… it wasn’t impossible.
Aunt Liu was gentle, mature, steady, beautiful, wealthy, had a great figure, was a top-tier alpha, and, most importantly, was devoted and affectionate toward Little Aunt.
In both the alpha circle and the top-tier alpha circle, Aunt Liu was a total catch.
If Gu Feiran really liked Aunt Liu, it made sense. But Aunt Liu was with Little Aunt, and Little Aunt was her colleague. That wouldn’t be good, right?
“Xiao Ci, what are you thinking about? I called you several times, and you didn’t respond,” Jiang Lan said, pinching her cheek.
Jiang Ci snapped back, covering her sore cheek pinched by Little Aunt, hiding her thoughts. She said, “Nothing. I’ll go get the car now and drive Dr. Gu home.”
With that, she turned and ran to get the car.
No matter what, she couldn’t let this Dr. Gu ruin Little Aunt and Aunt Liu’s happiness.
She ran so fast she disappeared in a flash. The others thought she was eager to drive Dr. Gu home.
Jiang Lan watched, gradually getting the idea to play matchmaker.
Ever since Jiang Ci’s engagement was broken off, Jiang Lan worried the girl might do something foolish.
After all, she had been crazy about Qiao Yunchi, even getting drunk over the breakup. Luckily, Qiao Yunchi had been cold to her for months beforehand, softening the blow. If the engagement had been broken off when Jiang Ci was most in love, she might’ve done something drastic, like jumping off a building.
Now that she was willing to drive another woman home, it showed she wasn’t stuck in the shadow of the broken engagement. As her Little Aunt, Jiang Lan naturally wanted to help her out.
While waiting for Jiang Ci to bring the car, Jiang Lan spoke up for her niece to Gu Feiran. “Dr. Gu, Xiao Ci is my niece. I watched her grow up. You can trust her to drive you. And though she’s an alpha, you probably saw the news these past few days—she’s a useless alpha. She won’t pose any threat to an omega.”
Jiang Ci, still running, sneezed twice.
Gu Feiran smiled lightly. “I trust her. Thank you.”
Liu Xiting, behind them, covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. Only a real aunt would say something like that; no one else would dare.
With Dr. Gu’s ride sorted, Xu Zhen couldn’t say more. He greeted them and left, looking dejected.
Jiang Ci drove up. Jiang Lan and Liu Xiting stood by the roadside, watching Gu Feiran get into the passenger seat.
Jiang Ci rolled down the passenger window, leaned over, and waved to them. “I’ll take Dr. Gu home now. Little Aunt, Aunt Liu, drive safe. Bye.”
Liu Xiting affectionately put her arm around Jiang Lan’s shoulder and said, “Bye. You two drive safe too.”
Jiang Ci said, “Got it.”
As she spoke, she sat back, started the car, and rolled up the window. Gu Feiran gave a slight nod to the two.
Liu Xiting added, “Bye.”
After the car left, the two turned toward the parking area.
Jiang Lan leaned into Liu Xiting’s arms and asked, “Hey, what do you think about me setting up Dr. Gu and Xiao Ci?”
“What?” Liu Xiting nearly tripped at the words.
Seeing her react so strongly, Jiang Lan clicked her tongue and said, “What, you think our Xiao Ci isn’t good enough for Dr. Gu? Hmm… maybe she isn’t, but at least our family has money. If Dr. Gu marries Xiao Ci, she’ll be financially secure. As for pheromones and glands, if they choose not to have kids, it doesn’t matter.”
Liu Xiting leaned her head on Jiang Lan’s shoulder, hugging her tightly, suddenly feeling powerless, like she had a god’s-eye view.
In terms of wealth, in all of Linjiang City, the Fu family was second to none. As for glands, Xiao Ci had a pheromone disorder, while Xiao Ran was an S-class omega.
Though she liked Xiao Ci a lot, whether Xiao Ran liked her was another matter.
And there was something very important. Liu Xiting straightened up, a trace of fear in her eyes.
Xiao Ci was a Jiang, Xiao Ran was a Fu. The two families were sworn enemies. They already had one couple—herself and her wife. If another couple formed… the families wouldn’t just fight; it’d be a bloodbath.
“No, no way,” Liu Xiting shook her head, refusing.
Absolutely not.
She and her wife were older, financially independent, and could escape to the ends of the earth if things went south. But those two weren’t ready yet. If they got together, they’d face much bigger problems. That said, Xiao Ci and Xiao Ran might not even like each other.
So Liu Xiting leaned close to Jiang Lan and said softly, “I think as long as two people truly like each other, nothing else matters. Xiao Ci just had her engagement broken off, and her mindset might not have adjusted yet. Isn’t it a bit fast to set her up with Dr. Gu now? Why not let them figure it out themselves, honey? What do you think?”
“That makes sense,” Jiang Lan agreed.
Liu Xiting kissed her forehead and smiled. “Alright, let the young ones handle their own stuff. Let’s go home. I’m not too busy these days and want to spend time with you.”
Jiang Lan looked up at her, smiling gently. “Okay.”
In the car.
Since Gu Feiran got in, they hadn’t said a word. She even entered her address herself.
Jiang Ci didn’t mind, focusing on driving, checking traffic lights and the rearview mirror, while thinking about Gu Feiran’s attitude toward Aunt Liu.
Though the idea might’ve been a fleeting thought, better safe than sorry. After all, Aunt Liu always picked up Little Aunt when she had time and stayed at the hospital when she wasn’t working. Dr. Gu probably saw Aunt Liu a lot. Maybe she fell for Aunt Liu because of her love for Little Aunt.
Yes, it’s totally possible.
Jiang Ci was oddly convinced.
Thinking deeper, that night at the hotel, Dr. Gu showed her a video, saying she knew her, and even took the initiative to get intimate despite Jiang Ci’s pheromone issue.
Did she know Jiang Ci was Little Aunt’s niece and do it on purpose? Was her goal to marry Jiang Ci to see Aunt Liu every day?
“Don’t you listen to music while driving?” Gu Feiran suddenly asked.
Lost in thought, Jiang Ci was startled back to reality. She coughed nervously and said, “It’s hard to see at night, so I focus on driving and usually don’t listen to music. Want to play something? Go ahead.”
Gu Feiran hummed, took out her phone, leaned forward, and tapped the screen, connecting to her Bluetooth in a few clicks.
“I’ll keep the volume low,” she said.
Jiang Ci nodded. “Sure, whatever you want.”
Gu Feiran scrolled through her playlist. Ten seconds later, an English song started playing softly. Jiang Ci didn’t know much about music and hadn’t heard it before, but the melody was soothing.
With music, the car felt less awkward. Jiang Ci started a conversation. “Your place is pretty close to the hospital.”
Gu Feiran said, “Convenient for work.”
Houses in that area near the city hospital were pricey, several tens of thousands per square meter, some even over a hundred thousand.
The navigation showed her neighborhood’s price at around a hundred thousand per square meter. Dr. Gu could afford to live there, so her family must be well-off. No wonder she didn’t want the three million in compensation.
Jiang Ci said, “About the contract, I thought about it, and I think we should get married.”
Gu Feiran turned to look at her. “Why?”
