Chapter 31: Really Doesn’t Know How to Kiss
The two got into the car and made a U-turn at the intersection. Although there was no navigation, the destination was clear: Dr. Gu’s home.
Jiang Ci said, “Dr. Gu, maybe we should forget about tonight. You’ve been busy all day and spent so long with me at the hospital entrance. You must be tired. How about I come back to see you tomorrow?”
Making Dr. Gu worry and exhaust herself over her own issues, even if it helped, Jiang Ci didn’t want to trouble her like this.
Gu Feiran focused on the road and only spoke in a low voice when they were near the neighborhood entrance, saying, “Don’t think too much. I know what I’m doing.”
Jiang Ci said, “I’m not thinking too much. Actually, I’m a bit worried about you, and I’m sorry, Dr. Gu.”
An omega could only be marked once in their lifetime. Since she was still alive, she could do something for her. But if one day she accidentally died from the torment of her heat cycle, what would happen to Dr. Gu’s life?
If only she hadn’t marked her that day.
Gu Feiran said, “Are you worried that if you’re gone, no one will want me?”
Jiang Ci instinctively denied it, “Of course not.”
After answering, Jiang Ci suddenly realized that with Dr. Gu’s qualities, even if she really left, someone would still genuinely love her.
But why should someone love her just because of her qualities? Dr. Gu herself was worth cherishing and caring for, so that’s why they’d love her.
Gu Feiran could almost guess her fleeting thoughts without thinking and said, “Whether someone wants me or not is my business. If you die, you can’t control it from the underworld. But since you’re still alive, say things a living person would say. If you really die, on the day of your funeral, I’ll take leave to attend it.”
Jiang Ci no longer felt worried. Her eyelids drooped as she looked out the car window, feeling lifeless. “Thanks for your kindness.”
What a way to comfort someone.
Gu Feiran said, “You’re welcome.”
The car entered the neighborhood and parked in the garage. Gu Feiran turned off the engine, unbuckled her seatbelt, grabbed her bag, and got out.
Jiang Ci got out from the passenger side, went to the back seat, opened the door, and took out the uneaten roasted pig’s trotters and the trash from what she’d eaten.
Gu Feiran stood at the front of the car waiting for her. When she came over, they walked together toward the elevator.
Jiang Ci had been here once before because of a stomach issue, brought by Dr. Gu, so this time she wasn’t as nervous as last time.
They got out of the elevator and walked to the door. Gu Feiran opened the shoe cabinet and took out a new pair of guest slippers, not the disposable kind.
They were gray with two cute little ears.
Gu Feiran said, “After you take a shower in the guest room later, come to my room. If you don’t want to come, I can come to you.”
Jiang Ci refused almost without hesitation, “Dr. Gu, no need to trouble yourself. I’ll come to you. You don’t need to come.”
Gu Feiran said, “That’s best.”
With that, she changed into slippers and went inside.
Jiang Ci lingered at the door for a while before changing into the slippers and entering. In the living room, she saw Dr. Gu’s aunt and greeted her with a smile, “Hello, Aunt. I’m back again. Dr. Gu is kind enough to let me stay tonight. Sorry for disturbing you so late.”
The aunt smiled, “Miss Gu is always kind. I’ll prepare the guest room for you. Please sit and wait a moment.”
Jiang Ci waved her hand and said, “No rush, no rush. Take your time. I’m not in a hurry. Take your time.”
She hoped the aunt would take so long that Dr. Gu would fall asleep, and she wouldn’t have to go over.
The aunt said, “Okay.”
While the aunt prepared the guest room, Jiang Ci sat at the dining table and ate the remaining roasted pig’s trotters. They were spicy and flavorful, with crispy skin and tender meat, leaving a fragrant taste in her mouth.
Perhaps because of the last time she cleaned up, this time, just as Jiang Ci ate half of the trotters, the aunt came out of the room and said, “The room is ready. You can go in.”
Jiang Ci stood up to thank her, “Thank you, Aunt.”
The aunt said, “No problem. If you need anything later, just knock on the door of the room at the far end.”
Jiang Ci said, “No need. I’ve already disturbed you enough.”
The aunt smiled, said it was no trouble, and went back to her room to rest.
Once the aunt left, the large living room was left with just Jiang Ci, quiet and still. She wasn’t in a hurry and slowly finished the trotters, packed up the trash, threw it in the kitchen bin, washed her hands, and returned to the guest room she’d stayed in before to shower and freshen up.
But halfway through her shower, Jiang Ci suddenly remembered there was only a bathrobe outside and no clean clothes to change into.
Hmm… no problem. At worst, she’d put her own clothes back on and leave. She could shower again when she got home.
Jiang Ci showered for over forty minutes, dried her hair, and let it fall over her shoulders, the ends reaching her shoulder blades, black and smooth.
She untied the bathrobe belt and walked to the bed, planning to put on her own clothes and slip away like last time, but she froze.
Where were the clothes she’d left at the foot of the bed?
She’d clearly left them there before her shower.
Jiang Ci hurriedly tied the bathrobe belt, pulled back the covers, and found nothing. She opened the guest room’s wardrobe, but it was empty except for some toiletries—not even a single T-shirt.
She even checked the bathroom again, but aside from the bathrobe she was wearing, there was nothing to wear.
“Dr. Gu,” Jiang Ci finally realized.
Last time she was here, Dr. Gu had gone to her room, changed, and brought pajamas and clean clothes over. But this time, Jiang Ci had been munching on pig’s trotters in the living room for so long, and Dr. Gu hadn’t brought any clothes. Now, her original clothes were gone too.
Did she guess that Jiang Ci would try to slip away?
Jiang Ci bent over the bed, buried her face in the covers, and felt full of regret. She should’ve said something before running off last time.
Half an hour later, Jiang Ci knocked on Dr. Gu’s bedroom door.
After a moment, the door opened from the inside. Jiang Ci instinctively looked up. Dr. Gu was wearing a milky-white, long, belted nightgown. She was tall, her skin fair, her delicate collarbones peeking out, her eyes deep, and a light, sweet fragrance lingered on her.
Gu Feiran said, “Why didn’t you leave this time?”
Jiang Ci cautiously shifted her gaze to the doorframe and said, “Well, my clothes were taken.”
Gu Feiran said, “So you still wanted to leave.”
She did have that thought.
Gu Feiran had nothing kind to say about her plan to slip away. She turned around and said, “Come in.”
Jiang Ci stood at the door, took a deep breath, and with a do-or-die resolve, pushed the door open and went in.
Upon entering, she saw a short hallway with transparent display cabinets on both sides. The right cabinet held three different styles of formal dresses, while the left was filled with an array of high heels, some looking like custom-made, one-of-a-kind pieces. Further in, past the hallway, was a study area with a large wooden bookshelf against the wall, packed with books.
In the corner stood a creepy human skeleton model.
Her Little Aunt’s study had a similar skeleton model, along with various animal specimens.
Did doctors all like these things?
Jiang Ci looked around, turned a corner, and saw a gray leather Italian-style bed with a curved light strip platform in front. The beige curtains were drawn tightly, blocking out any view of the night.
“Lower your head,” Gu Feiran suddenly appeared in front of her.
Before Jiang Ci’s brain could process, her head obediently lowered. Gu Feiran lifted her hands to Jiang Ci’s nape, brushed aside her long hair, and gently fastened a cool object around it.
Jiang Ci asked, “What’s this?”
Gu Feiran said, “It detects pheromone levels.”
Jiang Ci remembered the detector they used at the hospital, with its long wires, and asked, “Does this one need wires?”
Gu Feiran said, “No, it’s advanced technology.”
Jiang Ci said, “Oh, advanced technology.”
After fastening it, Gu Feiran pressed the switch. When it beeped, she walked to the sofa at the foot of the bed, bent down, and picked up a touchscreen display showing a pheromone level of zero.
Jiang Ci followed and saw the data was zero. Curious, she asked, “What’s the highest pheromone level for an S-grade omega? Does it reach 100?”
“It can reach 100,” Gu Feiran said, picking up another pheromone detector and fastening it to her own gland.
Jiang Ci asked, “What’s your highest?”
Gu Feiran said, “93.”
Jiang Ci said, “93, that high? That must be tough during your heat cycle. How do you handle it?”
Gu Feiran looked at her directly, “Inhibitor patches and suppressants.”
Jiang Ci nodded, “Makes sense.”
After all, without an alpha to temporarily mark her, a single omega could only rely on inhibitor patches and suppressants to manage a heat cycle. But 93 was a really high number.
“Come here,” Gu Feiran grabbed Jiang Ci’s forearm, led her to the bed, picked up the remote, and turned off all the bedroom lights. The room plunged into darkness, with only the faint glow from the curved platform.
When the lights were on, facing each other, Jiang Ci wasn’t too nervous. But now, with all the lights off and only their faint outlines visible, she suddenly felt overwhelmingly nervous, her heart pounding. It was as if they were separated by a dark curtain, not seeing with their eyes but with their hearts, completely exposed to each other, with nowhere to hide or shield herself.
“Dr. Gu, you…” Jiang Ci felt uneasy.
With her vision unfocused, her other senses heightened. Up close, Jiang Ci could even feel Dr. Gu’s warm breath and the pleasant fragrance lingering around her nose.
Gu Feiran said, “Tonight is just a simple test. After it’s done, whether you want to stay or leave, I won’t stop you.”
It was her own gland abnormality, yet she wasn’t worried, but Dr. Gu was so concerned. If she didn’t show gratitude, she deserved to be dragged out and beaten.
Jiang Ci gathered her courage and said earnestly, “Okay, Dr. Gu, I’ll listen to you. How should we do the test?”
Gu Feiran meant to explain, but the words didn’t come out. After a moment’s hesitation, she leaned forward and kissed her.
The warm lips pressed against hers, soft and tingling. Jiang Ci’s mind short-circuited, unable to believe Dr. Gu would be so direct. She thought there’d be an explanation or a process first.
The first kiss was brief.
After pulling back, Gu Feiran instructed, “Don’t knock off the detector on your nape. It needs to record everything. We need the data to analyze the results.”
Jiang Ci proactively reached out, wrapped her arms around Gu Feiran’s slim waist, and pulled her close, saying, “Got it. Now I know what to do.”
Gu Feiran didn’t respond and silently released her pheromones.
After the earlier kiss, Jiang Ci thought Dr. Gu was always ready, so she caught her off guard, leaned down, bit her lower lip, and kissed her back forcefully. Her soft tongue explored without hesitation, delving deeply, lips and teeth entwined. Her right hand slid through Gu Feiran’s thick hair, resting on the back of her head, savoring her sweetness and flavor.
Gu Feiran, caught off guard by the intense kiss, gasped heavily, then had to grab Jiang Ci’s forearm, her brows furrowing.
She really didn’t know how to kiss.
