Chapter 5: What If You Get Pregnant
“Hey, Dr. Gu, did you hurt your collarbone? Why do you have a bandage there?” Jiang Lan noticed and asked kindly.
Gu Feiran looked calm: “Last night while showering, I accidentally scratched it with my nail.”
The truth was, it was a mark from Jiang Ci.
Her skin was fair and fragrant, kissing it felt like eating a strawberry mousse cake, so last night, she couldn’t resist and kissed a few times.
Besides the collarbone, there were marks on her chest and thighs too.
Jiang Lan said, “Oh,” and added with concern: “Then be careful.”
Gu Feiran: “Thank you, Dr. Jiang.”
“Oh, by the way, Dr. Gu, let me introduce you. This is my niece, Jiang Ci.”
Jiang Lan grabbed Jiang Ci’s arm and pulled her in front of Gu Feiran.
It was more like pushing than pulling.
Jiang Ci was pushed right in front of Dr. Gu.
They were so close that if she took one more step, her other collarbone might need a bandage too.
Jiang Ci had no choice but to meet her gaze and introduce herself: “Hello, Dr. Gu, I’m Jiang Ci.”
With her blocking Little Aunt’s view, Dr. Gu’s face changed instantly, her eyes so stern it was like she wanted to tear her apart.
“Hello, I’m Gu Feiran.”
So awkward.
She hadn’t figured out how to explain last night’s marking to her.
After the greeting, Jiang Lan reached out and pulled Jiang Ci back to her side, smiling brightly: “Dr. Gu, go do your work. We won’t disturb you.”
Gu Feiran’s face returned to normal, and she nodded lightly: “Okay, I’ll get to work.”
Jiang Lan: “Hmm.”
Gu Feiran stepped aside, walked past them, and her figure gradually disappeared down the hallway.
When Gu Feiran was far enough, Jiang Lan hugged Jiang Ci’s neck from behind, pulled her close, and whispered: “Hey, since you got dumped, why not consider our Dr. Gu? She’s got a great figure, high looks, and a good personality. She’s the hospital’s recognized beauty. People chasing her could circle the hospital. If your Little Aunt wasn’t too old to chase young ones, I’d have gone after her already.”
Jiang Ci rolled her eyes: “Little Aunt, aren’t you dating Aunt Liu?”
Jiang Lan’s face changed: “…”
“That woman’s temper is bad and stubborn, hard to deal with. I’ve already broken up with her one-sidedly,” Jiang Lan huffed.
Jiang Ci: “…”
Every time it was a one-sided breakup, and every time she’d cry and beg to get back together. Five years of breaking up, and it still wasn’t enough.
Aunt Liu really had the patience to put up with her antics.
As they talked, they reached the door of the ward.
Knock, knock, knock. Jiang Lan knocked three times, pushed the handle, and before going in, turned to Jiang Ci: “Remember, don’t talk back.”
Jiang Ci’s expression was resolute: “Got it.”
“Hmm, come in.” Jiang Lan led her inside.
They walked through the visitor area one after the other, pushed open a small door, and entered the bedroom inside the ward.
The ward was very quiet.
Grandma, wearing a hospital gown, leaned against the headboard, holding a document she was reading.
A company lawyer sat beside her.
Hearing the sound, she turned her head, saw them, and stood up from the chair: “Dr. Jiang, President Jiang.”
Jiang Lan hummed, walked straight to the medical equipment, and carefully checked the ECG.
Jiang Ci walked to the lawyer’s side, looked at the person on the bed, and nodded slightly: “Grandma, I’m back.”
Jiang Lan checked all the data, still uneasy, stared at the ECG, and said: “The data is normal, and your vital signs are all fine. Mom, you’re an elderly person now. Don’t get angry or lose your temper so easily. Look, this time…”
Thud—Bang.
As Jiang Lan was speaking, a loud noise suddenly came from the side, and she instinctively turned her head.
“Mom!” Jiang Lan shouted.
The lawyer was also shocked by the scene, stepping back in panic: “Jiang, President Jiang, are you okay?”
Jiang Ci’s eyelids felt sticky and hard to open. She gritted her teeth, endured the pain, and gave a faint smile: “I’m fine.”
“Mom!” Jiang Lan quickly moved from the ECG, ran to Jiang Ci’s side, and checked the wound on her forehead.
Her left forehead was bleeding from being hit by a glass cup. Bl00d flowed down her brow, slowly into her eye, and dripped further, like tears of bl00d.
Jiang Lan immediately took out her phone to make a call, shouting at the person on the bed: “The breakup wasn’t Little Ci’s fault. Why take it out on her and even hit her? What if it hurt her eyes?”
Qian Ying slowly withdrew her hand from throwing the glass cup, gripped the document, and continued reading: “You can’t even keep an engagement. What use are you?”
“Mom.” Jiang Lan was both angry and worried.
She rummaged through a nearby cabinet, found sterile gauze, tore open the packet, and handed it to Jiang Ci to cover the wound.
“Hello, Dr. Jiang?” The call connected.
Jiang Lan pressed the phone to her ear and said nervously: “Dr. Gu, sorry to bother you. Are you free now? I have an urgent injury that needs treatment. If it’s okay, could you take her for a CT scan too?”
“Sure,” she agreed.
Jiang Lan said gratefully: “Thank you, Dr. Gu. I’ll treat you to dinner sometime.”
After hanging up, Jiang Lan pulled Jiang Ci’s arm to leave: “I’ll take you to get bandaged. This old lady’s hand was way too heavy.”
Jiang Ci squinted, unable to open her eyes, her head dizzy: “I expected to get hit, but not this hard.”
When the glass cup came flying, she didn’t even have a chance to react.
When it hit the floor with a bang, and bl00d flowed down her brow, she realized what had happened.
Jiang Lan opened the door, looked at the still-bleeding wound on her forehead, and said: “At least she didn’t break your leg. That’s good enough. Later, let Dr. Gu bandage you properly, then get a scan.”
Jiang Ci tilted her head toward Little Aunt, squinted her right eye, and asked: “Why let Dr. Gu treat my wound?”
Jiang Lan: “Do you want the hospital’s bald middle-aged men to bandage you, or the beautiful Dr. Gu?”
Jiang Ci tugged at her lips: “…”
It seemed an easy choice, but was it really the time to pick based on looks?
Though it was a hospital, walking around in broad daylight with a bl00d-covered face could easily scare people.
Jiang Ci, with her bloody face, had already startled several nurses and doctors along the way.
They finally made it downstairs, almost to Dr. Gu’s office, when, turning a corner, they scared someone else.
By chance, it was Dr. Gu.
“How did you get hurt like this?”
Gu Feiran frowned and asked. Just ten minutes ago, she was fine.
Jiang Lan stammered: “She’s clumsy, bumped into a wall. Dr. Gu, please take care of her.”
“…Okay.” Gu Feiran took over Jiang Ci.
Jiang Lan: “Alright, I’ll go do my work.”
Then Jiang Ci was brought into the office.
Gu Feiran took off her mask, pulled out a medical kit from the cabinet, placed it on the desk, and took out a pack of cotton swabs and a bottle of saline.
Jiang Ci sat on a chair, covering her wound, watching her work.
Gu Feiran prepared everything, walked to Jiang Ci, bent slightly, reached for the sterile gauze, and when she removed it, the shocking wound made her heart skip a beat, her hand trembling as she held the gauze.
“How did you get hurt?”
Gu Feiran frowned, placing the sterile gauze on the treatment tray.
Dr. Jiang said she bumped into something.
How could an adult get hurt like this?
Jiang Ci closed her eyes, quietly letting her treat it: “I accidentally bumped into something.”
Gu Feiran glanced at her, started cleaning the bl00d from her face, and soon the treatment tray was full of bloody cotton swabs.
The wound wasn’t shallow but didn’t need stitches.
Gu Feiran cleaned it thoroughly, turned to get iodine, tweezers, and cotton balls.
“Bandaging done. Go get a CT.”
Her gentle, pleasant voice came from above, like a clear summer stream flowing by her ear.
With the sticky bl00d gone from her eyes, it felt much better.
Jiang Ci opened her eyes, her gaze landing on the bandage on Gu Feiran’s collarbone. Remembering last night’s kiss, she couldn’t resist lightly poking it.
Gu Feiran froze: “What are you doing?”
Jiang Ci coughed lightly, quickly pulled back her hand: “Nothing. About last night, should we talk now?”
After all, she marked her and should take responsibility.
Gu Feiran continued applying iodine to the wound: “How do you want to talk?”
Jiang Ci said seriously: “Take responsibility for you.”
As she said this, Gu Feiran’s cotton ball touched the wound, and Jiang Ci winced in pain.
“Even if you don’t want me to take responsibility, you don’t have to be so rough,” Jiang Ci said.
Gu Feiran straightened up, changed to a new cotton ball, and said: “You got dumped yesterday, and today you’re talking about taking responsibility for another woman. Miss Jiang, maybe settle the breakup first before talking to me.”
It sounded reasonable.
But Little Aunt said the person Qiao Yunchi liked at the wedding was Gu Feiran. Did Gu Feiran know Qiao Yunchi?
Jiang Ci gave her a suspicious look.
Gu Feiran was focused on treating the wound and didn’t notice.
The wound was almost done. Gu Feiran cleaned up the used items and took Jiang Ci for a CT.
Though it wasn’t clear how she got so badly hurt, a CT was best to check for brain injury.
On the way, Gu Feiran told Jiang Ci post-injury care: “Don’t get the wound wet for a few days. Eat bland food, avoid spicy things like ginger, garlic, and chili. If you’re recovering at home and changing the dressing, if the wound gets red, swollen, or pus appears, it’s infected. Come to the hospital immediately.”
Jiang Ci listened carefully: “Got it. Thank you, Dr. Gu, but…”
She forgot to mention something earlier.
Gu Feiran turned to her: “But what?”
Jiang Ci leaned closer to Gu Feiran, almost whispering in her ear: “Since the marking last night worked, remember to take medicine. If you get pregnant, I’ll definitely take responsibility, but we should respect your opinion.”
Gu Feiran’s hands in her pockets slowly clenched, and she looked away: “I know.”
Jiang Ci had nothing else to say: “Good.”
