Accidentally Marked My Ex’s Crush, the Ice-Cold Goddess O - Chapter 6: Hung Up On
Chapter 6: Hung Up On
Gu Feiran took Jiang Ci to register for a general surgery appointment to get a CT scan.
The hospital was always crowded, whether on weekends or weekdays. After getting the appointment number, Gu Feiran told Jiang Ci to join the queue.
She had some work to handle.
“Did you bring your phone?” Before leaving, Gu Feiran took her phone out of her pocket, wanting to add Jiang Ci on WeChat to check the results later.
Jiang Ci thought she was asking for payment for the registration and CT scan, so she asked, “How much? I’ll transfer it to you.”
“Hmm?” Gu Feiran made a soft sound of confusion.
“Add me,” Jiang Ci said, opening her WeChat QR code for Gu Feiran to scan.
Gu Feiran handed over her phone. After the beep of a successful scan, she sent a friend request, noting: Jiang Ci.
Jiang Ci also added a note: Dr. Gu.
“How much?” Jiang Ci asked again after adding her.
Seeing her insistence, Gu Feiran put her phone back in her pocket and said, “Registration plus the scan, I’ll round it up to five hundred.”
“OK, I sent it,” Jiang Ci said, transferring three thousand.
The extra was for bandaging and consultation fees.
Gu Feiran hadn’t checked the amount yet and reminded her, “I’m going to work now. Message me when you’re done with the scan, and I’ll come pick you up.”
Jiang Ci closed her phone and declined, “No need. I have some things to do at the hospital after the scan. You go ahead.”
“…Alright.” Gu Feiran turned and left.
Jiang Ci waited for dozens of minutes before her turn. After the scan, she took the elevator to Grandma’s ward.
When she entered, only the lawyer and Grandma were in the ward.
Little Aunt wasn’t there.
Jiang Ci had learned her lesson this time. She stood at the foot of the bed, keeping her distance to avoid another cup flying at her unexpectedly.
The lawyer stood and nodded to Jiang Ci, “President Jiang.”
After the greeting, her gaze unconsciously drifted to the bandage on Jiang Ci’s forehead. Feeling a pang of empathy, she let out a soft hiss.
Jiang Ci’s forehead was wrapped in layers of gauze, and she smelled strongly of disinfectant.
President Jiang was naturally good-looking, refined, and pretty.
Even with the bandage, she didn’t look bad. Instead, she had a fragile, almost sickly beauty.
But it had to be said, the chairman’s aim was fast, accurate, and ruthless.
The lawyer hadn’t even reacted when the cup flew past her and hit President Jiang’s forehead, bl00d splattering.
Qian Ying ignored Jiang Ci’s arrival, flipping through documents and saying, “How do you plan to handle the matter with the Qiao family?”
Jiang Ci’s tone was serious, “Since the Qiao family publicly called off the engagement, I think we shouldn’t force it. It’s better to end this marriage arrangement. As for the company’s funding issues, I want to talk to President Fu of Shengding Group. I believe she’ll be interested in this partnership.”
“Shengding?”
Qian Ying slowly closed the documents, looked up at Jiang Ci at the foot of the bed, and said, “Shengding’s people don’t move without profit, especially that Fu Ruanyi, who’s ruthless and greedy. If we work with her, out of seventy percent of the profits, she’d likely take forty percent. That’s why I didn’t want to work with her.”
Jiang Ci raised her head, meeting Qian Ying’s stern gaze directly. Her heart wavered, and she quickly looked down to avoid it, saying, “Even if we had partnered with the Qiao family through the engagement, their share of the profits wouldn’t be much less than forty percent. Plus, with Qiao Weiming’s character, he might even pull some tricks behind our backs. With Shengding, they might demand a lot, but they won’t scheme behind us. I think this partnership is better with Shengding.”
Qian Ying had seriously considered working with Shengding before, but she didn’t want to lower herself to beg that old woman and be laughed at.
Now, with things falling apart with the Qiao family, they definitely wouldn’t invest anymore.
The only option left was to work with Shengding.
“It’s really come to Shengding, huh?”
Qian Ying cursed and threw the documents toward the foot of the bed.
Jiang Ci saw the papers flying and instinctively straightened her back in fear, thinking Grandma was about to throw something at her again.
Luckily, it wasn’t.
Qian Ying sighed and said, “You handle the Shengding partnership. When you negotiate, don’t mention me to the Fu family, and especially don’t mention that old woman from the Fu family, got it?”
Jiang Ci nodded, “I understand, Chairman.”
“Go do it,” Qian Ying shooed her away.
Jiang Ci didn’t dare stay a second longer. After receiving the instructions, she turned and left without looking back.
The moment she stepped out of the ward and closed the door, Jiang Ci’s tense back relaxed, and the heavy weight in her chest gradually lifted.
She had thought Grandma wouldn’t agree to work with Shengding.
She hadn’t expected that for the sake of the company, Grandma would set aside her pride. It was truly surprising.
“Hey, how’s your head?”
As soon as Jiang Lan finished work, she rushed over. Seeing Jiang Ci standing at the door, she reached out to check her head, “Dr. Gu did a good job. The bandage looks decent.”
Jiang Ci didn’t mind being jostled a few times. After Jiang Lan let go, she cautiously asked, “Little Aunt, have you made up with Aunt Liu?”
“Nope. Why are you asking?”
Jiang Lan put her hands in her pockets.
Jiang Ci answered honestly, “In the ward just now, Grandma agreed to work with Shengding. But you know President Fu of Shengding—her temper is even worse and more stubborn than Aunt Liu’s, maybe even more so. If I go to her, she definitely won’t meet me. So, Little Aunt, could you ask Aunt Liu to pull some strings and help out a bit?”
Although the Jiang and Fu families had bad bl00d from the older generation and didn’t interact, as the saying goes, enemies often cross paths.
A few years ago, Little Aunt got out of her single life and started dating a girlfriend.
She was gentle, intellectual, generous, and beautiful—practically the perfect older sister type. That was Aunt Liu.
Little Aunt and Aunt Liu’s relationship was intense and earth-shattering.
But love that comes too fast often doesn’t last long.
Less than a year into their relationship, Little Aunt brought Aunt Liu home to meet the family. Unexpectedly, the moment Grandma saw Aunt Liu, her face darkened. The next second, she ordered the family’s security to kick Aunt Liu out.
Everyone found it strange at the time, not knowing why Grandma was so furious with Aunt Liu.
Later, they found out that Aunt Liu was part of the Fu family.
Aunt Liu was Fu Ruanyi’s younger aunt, her mother’s sister.
Aunt Liu didn’t take the Fu surname; she used her mother’s surname.
So Grandma forced Little Aunt to break up with Aunt Liu, saying if she didn’t, she’d be kicked out of the Jiang family.
Grandma always meant what she said, and no one in the family dared to defy her.
Little Aunt had been afraid of Grandma since childhood. After crying for a few days, she reluctantly broke up with Aunt Liu. But not long after, they couldn’t help getting back together.
From that day on, they started a nearly four-year-long secret relationship.
Whenever Grandma asked, Little Aunt would say they broke up ages ago and hadn’t contacted each other in forever.
Sometimes she even swore, saying it with such conviction and finality.
Grandma believed her and never asked again.
Back then, Little Aunt dared to make such bold claims because she and Aunt Liu had actually broken up during a fight. But their breakup was quick, and their reconciliation was just as sudden.
It was hard to believe two people in their thirties could be so dramatic.
“No way.”
Jiang Lan refused without hesitation. After refusing, she walked past Jiang Ci toward the ward.
Jiang Ci grabbed her arm, pulling her back, and said seriously, “Little Aunt, you can’t just let me die like this.”
Jiang Lan scoffed, “Die if you must. I’m not apologizing to that woman. This time, she started it.”
When the family card didn’t work, Jiang Ci played the pity card. She hugged Jiang Lan’s arm, pointed at the wound on her forehead, and said with teary eyes, “Little Aunt, look at me. Grandma smashed me up like this. Just for my sake, soften up to Aunt Liu and pull some strings, okay, Little Aunt, please?”
Jiang Lan’s heart softened at her words. Though she found it annoying, she couldn’t push her away and reluctantly agreed, “Fine, fine, I get it. I’ll talk to your Aunt Liu. But even though she’s Ruanyi’s aunt, she’s a lawyer by profession and doesn’t deal with the Fu family’s business. For the partnership, she can only put in a word. The rest is up to you.”
“Just putting in a word is enough. Aunt Liu doesn’t need to do anything else.”
Jiang Ci stood up straight, “I’ll try approaching Fu Ruanyi first. If she won’t see me, then have Aunt Liu talk to her.”
“Alright, I’ll contact her later,” Jiang Lan said.
“Thank you, Little Aunt.” Jiang Ci hugged her, “You’re my lucky star.”
Jiang Lan found it a bit sappy, “…”
This girl only knew how to say sweet things at times like this.
Grandma had agreed to work with Shengding, and Little Aunt was on board too.
Jiang Ci left the hospital and headed straight to the company, working until past ten at night before leaving the meeting room.
Back in her office, she pulled up a chair to sit and was about to organize the Shengding partnership contract when her phone, buried under a pile of documents, suddenly buzzed.
The first time it rang, Jiang Ci didn’t answer.
The second time it rang, she still didn’t pick up.
By the third time, Jiang Ci put down her work, got up, and dug her phone out from the pile.
When she found it, the caller ID showed Dr. Gu.
Why was she calling so late? Was it urgent?
The phone was still ringing. Jiang Ci answered, “Dr. Gu.”
Her pleasant voice came through, “You got the CT scan but didn’t pick up the report?”
“Report?” Jiang Ci recalled.
After the scan that morning, the doctor said the results would be ready in about two hours.
She had planned to wait, but when Grandma suddenly agreed to the Shengding partnership, she got caught up and rushed to the company, forgetting about the report.
Jiang Ci said sheepishly, “Sorry, I forgot about it.”
“So, how’s the report?”
There was a pause of about ten seconds before the voice came again, “It’s not serious. It’s not a concussion.”
“That’s good,” Jiang Ci let out a sigh of relief.
Gu Feiran added, “But you need to come back in half a month for a follow-up scan.”
Jiang Ci asked, “Didn’t you say it’s fine?”
Gu Feiran explained, “Many patients with internal injuries don’t show issues on the first scan. A second check is needed to see if there’s any bruising or damage.”
“I see. Okay, I’ll come back to the hospital in half a month for the follow-up,” Jiang Ci said.
“Hmm.”
Beep, the call ended.
Jiang Ci put down the phone and continued working.
