Accidentally Marked My Ex’s Powerful Sister (GL, ABO) - Chapter 10
With senior year’s lighter course load, Ye Zhixun had nearly completed her elective credits. However, Yu Qi previously lacked enough elective credits, so she had asked Ye Zhixun to enroll in a music appreciation class with her.
Before the breakup, Ye Zhixun always attended classes with Yu Qi, naturally sitting together.
Ye Zhixun never skipped classes since she had chosen this course, she would continue attending.
But showing up now felt somewhat awkward.
Before the breakup, the two had been the most talked-about pair in the classroom.
After the breakup, returning to a shared elective even without doing anything drew attention.
“Is she still trying to cling to Yu Qi? They already broke up.”
“Just because they broke up doesn’t mean she should drop the class.”
“Who knew Ye Zhixun was such a devoted lover? I heard she ran a marathon’s worth this morning, how much heartbreak must she be working through?”
“LOL, apparently it even caught the attention of the sports department head. They want her for the university marathon league.”
Before class started, whispers circulated among the students.
Amid the murmurs, Ye Zhixun initially appeared unaffected, her expression calm as she focused on her book.
In reality, her mind was still wrestling with the image of Yu Li.
The more she resisted, the sharper the memories became.
“I told you to stop, did you hear me?!”
Yu Li’s voice had cut through the dimness. Even with its commanding tone, weakened by exhaustion and laced with a trembling, tearful edge, it held no real authority.
She didn’t dare dwell on it. Just the thought made Ye Zhixun clutch her head.
[You were told to stop, who else is to blame?]
[Someone, please erase this memory.]
Seeing Ye Zhixun “grieving,” her head bowed as if in “anguish,” the surrounding chatter quieted slightly.
“So tragic. Plenty of omegas at school still like her, though.”
“After dating the campus princess, who else could compare?”
“Honestly, she should’ve mentally prepared for this from the start.”
The hushed whispers continued.
When the bell rang, Ye Zhixun snapped back to reality, straightening up to prepare for class.
As soon as she lifted her head, she saw Yu Xi walk in, right on time.
Their eyes met.
Yu Qi’s gaze was complicated.
Earlier, on her way, Yu Qi had seen photos classmates sent her.
Ye Zhixun had come to class. And she was sitting in their usual spot.
In the photo, the young alpha looked melancholic, heartbroken. After just one day apart, she seemed thinner, paler fragile in a way that was almost captivating.
Yu Qi felt a flicker of vanity. Being loved, being missed by someone so striking… it wasn’t a bad feeling.
“Don’t love too much. It leads nowhere.”
With an inward sigh, Yu Qi deliberately lingered before entering, arriving just in time to take the seat farthest from Ye Zhixun.
Seeing Yu Qi again, Ye Zhixun felt as though lifetimes had passed.
“Did you see? Yu Qi has a diamond ring on her right ring finger, so sparkly!”
“That means she’s in a serious relationship. Her and Senior Song Feiyu are such a perfect match.”
The whispers from the front row reached Ye Zhixun’s ears. She noticed it too, the new diamond ring on Yu Qi’s finger.
Too much had happened. Only now did Ye Zhixun remember one thing.
She had originally planned to propose to Yu Qi.
For over half a year, she had been preparing a ring.
Knowing Yu Qi loved jewelry designed by DAWN, Ye Zhixun went out of her way to contact the designer’s studio over half a year in advance. Even after being rejected, she stubbornly pleaded with them, offering everything she had her best possible terms, until they finally agreed to take her order after more than a month of waiting.
The materials were provided by Ye Zhixun herself.
Her grandmother had given her a raw ruby, collected by her grandfather during his geological explorations years ago.
Her grandmother said if she ever found someone she loved, she could have it made into jewelry.
Rubies symbolize the beauty and eternity of love.
She just never expected that after all that effort, things would end up like this.
After music appreciation class ended, Yu Qi quickly packed up her things, eager to leave. As she reached the bottom of the stairs outside the classroom, Ye Zhixun caught up to her.
“Xiao Xi!” Ye Zhixun’s voice made Yu Qi freeze for a moment.
Yu Qi stopped, her expression turning cold.
Silent heartbreak was one thing, she might still feel a pang of sympathy if left alone.
But desperate clinging? That was just pathetic.
“Sorry to bother you. I… I just wanted to ask if you ate the birthday cake I sent yesterday?”
Ye Zhixun had already texted to ask, but Yu Qi hadn’t replied, forcing her to muster the courage to ask in person.
The ring held special meaning, it was meant for a proposal. Now that they’d broken up, and Yu Qi had effectively rejected her, Ye Zhixun wanted it back.
She didn’t ask directly, afraid Yu Qi might not even know about it yet. Better to quietly retrieve it than risk an awkward confrontation.
Yu Qi had braced herself for some emotional plea, only to be asked about something as trivial as a cake.
This was clearly just an excuse to talk to her.
And what a weak excuse it was.
“No, I threw it away yesterday. Don’t worry, I’ll pack up your things and mail them to you,” Yu Qi said flatly.
“…” Ye Zhixun was speechless. So it had been thrown away.
“Xiao Xi, who are you talking to? I’ve been waiting forever.” A voice cut in as an arm draped over Yu Qi’s shoulders.
It was Song Feiyu.
Dressed in designer labels and full makeup, the alpha stood beside Yu Qi, radiating fashionable charm and a bright smile.
“Just a classmate. Let’s go.” Yu Qi smiled at Song Feiyu and pulled her away.
Ye Zhixun watched them leave, her heart sinking bit by bit.
Only now did the reality of the breakup truly hit her.
Three years of feelings just like the ring she’d spent over half a year preparing discarded and gone.
But she didn’t wallow for long. Remembering something, she pulled out her phone and started searching.
No matter what, that ring had been a labor of love and more importantly, it contained her late grandfather’s keepsake. Even if someone else treated it like trash, she had to get it back.
If it had been thrown away, and hadn’t been processed yet, it might still be at the waste station.
Wei Harbor Residence’s trash was collected daily, first sent to a transfer station before being transported to a recycling facility for sorting.
Even if the chances were slim, Ye Zhixun had to try.
The only problem was she’d remembered too late. If the trash had already been mixed with other neighborhoods’ waste and sorted, finding it would be nearly impossible.
By the time Ye Zhixun reached the recycling center, night had fallen.
Luckily, Wei Harbor’s trash was still piled at the transfer station, not yet hauled away.
Mountains of garbage several truckloads’ worth filled the air with an unpleasant stench.
Ye Zhixun wore a mask and gloves, hiring two sanitation workers to help her search.
Around 8 p.m., the phone in her ziplock bag buzzed repeatedly.
Ye Zhixun removed her gloves to check the message.
[Is this yours?]
Along with the text was a photo. It was the sealed ring box she had lost!
[Yes, it is! How did it end up with you?]
Ye Zhixun hurriedly replied.
Relief washed over her, but then her scalp prickled with tension, how had it ended up in Yu Li’s possession?!
[Wash thoroughly and come over.]
Yu Li sent another message, ignoring Ye Zhixun’s question, and attached a location.
Baffled but with no time to dwell on it, Ye Zhixun quickly packed up, paid and thanked the two sanitation workers, then hailed a cab to rush home and scrub herself clean.
